We just found out about bitcoin but already we're accepting them as donation. Within the next few months (after the holidays) we will be hosting a presentation to explain bitcoin.

Hi. How long ago did you start accepting bitcoins? Bitcoin100's goals are to entice new charities to accept them - ones that might not otherwise be interested - and we can't basically give out bitcoins to bitcoin fans. Though if you will be promoting bitcoin in your local community, that would really help convince us to donate anyway.

Also, can you briefly describe what you actually do?

Thank you

Thanks, bud.

Let's see how this would look, with the option of changing it if it comes across too lame.

Bitcoin100 was developed specifically to convince NPOs to accept bitcoin donations, then donating the BTC equivalent of $1,000 USD to non-political, secular charities that prominently display an option for their supporters to contribute bitcoins via their website.

Also, the Sri Lanka Campaign for Peace and Justice, a London-based NGO, just started to accept bitcoin (http://www.srilankacampaign.org/giveanonymously.htm) They actually started taking it a sort while ago, but forgot to tell us Tongue Does that disqualify them? (*looks at Phinneas*  Tongue)

No! They are fine! Endowment, I say.

They have added the option, http://www.srilankacampaign.org/giveanonymously.htm, and

We started accepting them just a few weeks ago. We also signed up with BitPay, they accepted us as a charity. We're a 501c3. I've had a few questions for them and emailed their Chicago support person who hasn't written back. If you have connections with them you may want to heads them up.
We're a gay community center in Joliet Illinois. Joliet is a blue collar town outside of Chicago. The last train stop before it heads back.
Our goal at this point is to increase lgbtqi (lesbian, gay,  bi, trans, queer, intersex) visibility in our community. We're doing that by leading the way for our backwards town to join the 21st century. The first goal to do that is creating a resilience group. Done. It's made up of straight and gay people. The second goal is creating a local economy. This is where bitcoin comes in. I'm toying with the idea of creating our own digital currency but I simply don't know enough yet. Anyway I've already talked with someone who'll do the bitcoin presentation probably in January. Bling in the new year.
We're all volunteer. No paid staff. No grant writers. Just a few people willing to keep it going (and have since 2005).

affordable housing NPO interested in seeking bitcoin donations

From: Ryan N.

Hello Dmitry,
I'm a treasurer for La Reunion, an non-profit Affordable Housing Cooperative in Austin, Texas that opened in April of this year. To remain affordable we bought an old building which has required much more maintenance that expected due to health and safety issues such as bedbugs and high levels of carbon monoxide.
One of our goals is to establish more computer literacy in the community by setting up a computer lab and a mesh network and try to provide internet to the surrounding apartments. This goal has been put on the back burner due to high maintenance  costs. Because the founders are educated and use technology for organization we realize how far behind some of our lower income members are and the the pressing need to bring them "on-line" both to the global internet and to our local organizing structures, like our wiki, maintenance trello, food pantry app, etc.
We've set up fundraisers for both maintenance  and tech  and I'm sure by accepting bitcoin we would get more donations. With a $1000 dollars worth of bitcoin we could buy the routers and computers to get started at building a community provide internet and housing.
If you would like more information check out our wiki or email/ call me.

I think the following links would be valuable for your reviewers/donors.

Bitcoin100.org has been updated to reflect the addition of The League Against AIDS, Inc., WeSearch, The Water Project, and the Sri Lanka Campaign. Did I miss anyone?

BTW, I just renewed the registration for the bitcoin100.org domain - hard to believe it's already been two years since Bruno launched this project.  Shocked

And hey, those asses at http://www.donkeyrescue.org/ added a bitcoin donation option, too (they finished changing their website, but forgot to tell me, and I just remembered them and decided to look). So, we'll have one more donation going out in a bit. There is apparently a minor issue wit BitPay: the defualt settings don't allow for more than $100 or so per donation  Tongue I looked through my ow BitPay account, but can't find where to change it. E-mailed BitPay support. Hopefully they will change the default limit for donations to $1,000, because otherwise we'll keep running into this issue every time (this is the second or third time I ran into it)

I like this org, but can't seem to find their donation page. They are fairly new and use a wiki as their website, but they are linked to 501(c)3 org. I'm curious as to where they would prominently display the Bitcoin donation option on their website. They do have a descent Facebook page.

ok guys finally have gwzoo.org signed up for bitpay. they should be implementing the bitcoin on their donation page within a few hours. Also it should be going out on an international story that barcroft media is doing on the zoo. The donation link will be referenced in the article as well. This is after all the biggest tiger sanctuary in the world open to the public and they been hit hard by the recent storms. Id like to thank the BTC100 for there amazing contributions to so many charities.

Is the zoo doing something wrong? We have included the bitpay donation link on the donation page but when I try to donate via btc it gives us this error

donateoklahoma.usza.us

The merchant is currently not able to accept this payment. Please try again later.

However when I select USD it lets it process. any ideas and are we doing this right?

Plus, it only accepts donations up to $100 USD, but no over, i.e. $101. I'm pretty sure it's a simple fix. Please contact support at BitPay, whereupon the issue should be resolved in a timely manner.

~Bruno Kucinskas

Thx Bruno. I have submitted a ticket via bitpay with no luck. My only concern is that the zoo is having an article ran tomorrow via Barcroft media and we are attaching our BTC donation link and a mention of it in the article its self. This is a great look for the crypto community as it will be international press. I just hope I dont have to pull the BTC reference from the article due to no response from bitpay

Sorry I couldn't post this earlier

Rassah,

You will need to apply for a higher transaction limit at http://bitpay.com/merchant-compliance. We require some additional information from you that we will need to review. Once we've done that, we'll approve you for a higher limit, which will resolve this issue. Thanks for reaching out.

Sincerely,

I gotta say, this really sucks, considering we're doing $1,000 every time. I wonder if BitPay would object to 10 $100 donations at the same time? (Or if they even support it).

You two have been doing this many cash transactions without FinCEN compliance data on file? You should be happy its taken this long.

We have never made any cash transactions.
