Please meet my friend Dmitry. We met in business school and he now runs a foundation that is looking for worthy nonprofits to donate to. He recently donated $1,000 each to my friend Jessie's IBME and my friend Amy's Primate Education Network. I think he will really appreciate the work you're doing with the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea.

Dmitry's foundation is called BitCoin100. They arose out of the generosity of a few early adopters of an amazing currency called bitcoins (if you're not too familiar with them them, this might help) to promote the value of the currency for nonprofits: when donors make their donations in bitcoins, the recipient nonprofit keeps 100% (hence the name). None of the funds are lost to credit card or processing fees.

BitCoin100 donates $1,000 to selected nonprofits who agree to accept the currency on their donation page. Your processor can immediately convert the donation into USD if you like, so you don't actually have to hold bitcoins in your account at all. It doesn't take much work to get it set up, but I know the money would make a valuable difference for North Koreans.

@Dmitry, I met Amanda at a class at the Foundation Center. She's smart and very nice and works for a great organization: the bipartisan Committee for Human Rights in North Korea works to end North Korea's gulags and bring more information and freedoms to the people of the country. They could make a big difference with a $1,000 donation.

Our guidelines are "non-political," and I think this one still qualifies, as they focus on human rights abuses, not politics.

I'd tell you what. http://hrnk.org/ has a lot of influencial names on their board/staff/etc., thus a lot of eyeballs would see a Bitcoin donation option on their website if they opt to embed.

Both organizations could make a big difference with a $1,000 donation.

Virtually, everything that Bitcoin 100 is doing/does is transparent. At this penning, I'm hard-pressed to offer up an example of anything we do behind the scenes to counter that statement.

Sometimes, we may not be the most organized charity, but for what we are and what we do, we'll accomplished a helluva lot. <not meant as a pat on my/our back(s)>

The mission of the non-profit is to create a bridge between tea growers and tea lovers. Funds are used to host International Tea Festivals where tea growers travel around the world to connect with each other, collaborate, and provide education and transparency to tea lovers (consumers).

Hi Rassa,

A twitter follower of ours sent me a link to the SPCA's BC store
front. He has been slowly talking to the bosses about accepting
bitcoin and in the shopping cart shopify system they use he was able
to at least sell the shops new shirts and take general donations for
bitcoin. He noted that his bosses are still not to hot on promoting
bitcoin on the site and having a donation widget on the main page. I
can appreciate his patience with the upper brass but maybe Bitcoin100
would like to help get the ball rolling.

I find this to be a very worth wile charity but maybe they don't fit
your criteria. I would understand in that's the case but here is the

I'm going to have to offer up a full disclosure statement on this one.

I did meet with Elyse in LV, and if anybody looks at pics from the Inside Bitcoins conference, she'll be the one with pinkish hair. Rumor has it that there were some crazily dressed people in attendance.  

At any rate, she told me about her tea org, whereupon I expressed to her to contact us publicly, i.e. this forum/this quote (above), and that she wouldn't have any problem getting endowed, this in spite of the fact that she was already a Bitcoiner, but I believing, in my mind, at the time, fairly new. Later, I learnt she was a Bitcoiner longer than I envisioned via Google.

Bottomline, all else is fine with her and her tea org, and warrants an endowment due mainly to my word to her that she would have no problem obtaining such.

I duly hope that this doesn't affect her chances, requesting, again, a little latitude in this regard.

Beside that particular conversation, and one other later between her, I and Josh, I had/have no other relationship with her.
