Hey everyone,

I've been trying to contact Rassah via his email address that I got from http://bitcoin100.org/contact/ a few weeks ago, but haven't gotten a reply. Is Bitcoin100 still active and adding charities?

I am volunteering for an organisation called New Harvest. They are a US registered non-profit advancing alternatives to conventionally produced meat, mostly focusing on cultured meat.

Their website:
http://www.new-harvest.org/

What cultured meat is:
http://www.new-harvest.org/cultured-meat/faq/

They are fully set up now and the only thing missing are the donations.

Can you give me some info on why I didn't get a reply, or get me into contact with someone who can set up New Harvest for this, please?
Thanks!

Bitcoin100 is more alive than ever- in fact, I would wager the delay is due to the high volume of emails Rassah is getting. He is alive, I saw him last week. Posting here is a smart move, I'm sure when he's had a second to breathe he'll be back to you.

Playing catch-up now, all.

I'm having a problem with http://directaction.info/donate.htm, Rassah. Everything I've found on The Wayback Machine dictates that they're a for-profit entity, just recently accepting donations of any and the usual kind.

We will need to have them set us straight on this issue before we consider endowing them, especially considering the following:

I spent a week and weekend in Autin at the bitcoin conference, then had almost no break before spending another weekend at a Baltimore conference (this one wasn't bitcoin related, and involved a lot of fake fur). Whatever free time I had between the two, I had to dedicate to Mycelium. So, sorry about the almost two week down time.

Without further ado (ado sounds funny to say. Adooooouuuuuu!)

Hello.  I am writing to find out more information about your program.  Without Regrets Foundation provides gravely ill parents and their minor children with memorable family experiences.  This special time together creates memories that will last forever.  For more, please watch this short video.

I understand you just spoke with one of our volunteers at the Texas Bitcoin Concert.  We do currently accept bitcoin donations on our website.  I would love to speak to you further about your program.  I will be out there this afternoon (probably after about 3) and will be there for the concert this evening as well.

Thank you.

These guys were at the Texas Bitcoin Conference, so at least they were vetted by them. As I was told, they are basically the reverse of the Make a Wish Foundation, where they do the wish granting for terminally ill parents.

Hi Rassah,

I am volunteering for an organisation called New Harvest. They are a US registered non-profit advancing alternatives to conventionally produced meat. That is, they mostly promote cultured meat ("in-vitro-meat") and gather data and experience from researchers all over the world that will help make cultured meat reality.

Their website:

What cultured meat is:

I have been setting up a Bitpay account for them in the last week, which is approved. Now they need to change their site accordingly, so Bitcoins can be sent. Once that's done and tested, they should be all ready!

Is Bitcoin100 still active? I told them that it might be possible to get a thousand dollar's worth in BTC from the Bitcoin100 people. That would be a great encouragement for them, though we do hope for other donations in the long run too. Smiley

You might not remember that, but Marius (Mqrius) and I communicated with you concerning Against Malaria Foundation quite a while ago, where we wanted them to start accepting Bitcoin. They never got back to us, which is why I'm so excited to be able to set it up myself for New Harvest now!

Best regards,
Anne

I'm an attorney and administrator for the Abolitionist Law Center. We're a 501c3 law firm that works to defend prisoner rights in the United States. We could use a $1,000 endowment from Bitcoin 100.

We currently have a bitcoin wallet setup at blockchain.info, and I'm in the process of setting up a donate button via Bitpay. Could you let me know if Bitcoin 100 is still providing endowments to nonprofits, and what I should do to obtain one for Abolitionist Law Center?

You can find out more about our organization at our website: http://abolitionistlawcenter.org/

Mission Statement:
The Abolitionist Law Center is a public interest law firm inspired by the struggle of political and politicized prisoners, and organized for the purpose of abolishing class and race based mass incarceration in the United States.  To accomplish this goal, the Abolitionist Law Center engages in litigation on behalf of people whose human rights have been violated in prison, produces educational programs to inform the general public about the evils of mass incarceration, and works to develop a movement against the American penal system by building alliances and nurturing solidarity across social divisions.

Working with prisoners in defense of human rights has led us to the realization that the prison system – and, in particular, its reliance on solitary confinement – is part of a larger system that operates according to a logic of violence and intimidation.  Solitary confinement is used to terrorize the prisoner population.  The prison population and policies of race and class based mass imprisonment are used to terrorize poor communities in general, and communities of color in particular.  And the socio-economic conditions in those communities are used to keep relatively privileged communities in line and focused on carrying out the agenda of a powerful few.

The Abolitionist Law Center seeks to challenge this status quo by building creative, principled, visionary, and lasting alliances with people and organizations inside and outside of prison who are determined to confront and defeat these interconnected systems of oppression, and replace them with healthy, sustainable, and liberating alternatives.

Thank you and I hope to hear back soon,

Rassah, I'm going to need a tad bit of help on this one.

According to The Wayback Machine, they sold product, and still do, with just recently attaching themselves to a cause, albeit selling product is not the issue unless it was/is their sole income.

Here is more info

In the case of SariSak.com, some proceeds go back into the community where the Saris originate from and this is a great cause.  However it’s not a full not-for-profit entity. I can understand your concerns. I feel fine with sharing this with Sarisak.com and letting them know that the gift is strictly for nonprofits.

Hey Rassah,

Can you confirm if you send donations to charitable organizations that were recently verified and approved by Phinnaeus Gage?

The reason I'm asking is that International Orphan Resource Center http://www.orphanresourcecenter.org was recently approved. They have several orphanages in Crimea Ukraine and that's exactly were the war just started. This is very sad. I've just received news that the IORC reprasentative left for Ukraine yesterday to figure out how to continue to support orphans in this difficult situation. They would really need support right now.

Thank you!

Sorry for the delay. With all the bitcoin conferences, furry conventions, and job transitions I'm doing, I haven't had much time to catch up.

Hi,

I’m a longtime supporter of International Orphan Resource Center. They are a US charity that helps orphans in Eastern Europe.  I’ve made 2 attempts to promote the idea that they should accept donations in Bitcoin and my latest attempt succeeded! Now there is a prominent Bitcoin logo on the home page of the organization http://www.orphanresourcecenter.org

This one seems to past muster, Rassah.

~Bruno Kucinskas

Bitcoin donation option added, and $1,000 sent:
https://blockchain.info/tx/717b2f7f9d77bf634a4dfdb5c425658565a1bb7eee7257a1fc7f253809779502

And finally, three hours late, mealexchange.com passes with flying colors.

~Bruno Kucinskas

They added a bitcoin donation option as well, so another $1,000 sent https://blockchain.info/tx/f0b9ca4a999cb28eb13ca2740245c71f15cac71c547347c538242cbc1b37a128

And OH WOW these guys took their time Cheesy

Another one from Frankie:

@Dmitry, Emmy is a smart, passionate friend of mine and former coworker of my wife Jess. She works as a fundraiser for a wonderful nonprofit in DC: Bread for the City is more than a soup kitchen, providing comprehensive services including medical care and legal services for DC's poor. Good luck!

http://www.breadforthecity.org/ looks fine, Rassah.

They finally got their issues sorted with BitPay (whatever they were *shrug*) and added a bitcoin donation option, s yet another $1,000 sent: https://blockchain.info/tx/0663449080346a1b59de34b5afabd3cce9a7c97fdb6188cc2ab5a09fa1232c91

We may have to double check this one, Rassah.

http://www.cooljoliet.net/About.html

Quote
Cool Joliet is a coalition of groups and individuals that reflect the greater diversity of Joliet and the surrounding area; The Joliet Area Congregation Organized Bodies (JACOB) group of many area churches, First Presbyterian Church of Joliet, the Universalist Unitarian Church of Joliet, Potluck Democracy, Community Alliance and Action Network (C.A.A.N.), Will County Environmental Network, and others. The Cool Joliet Coalition is very much a grassroots, volunteer organization.

We welcome all individuals & groups that will work together for common goals in advocating for a healthy environment. Feel

free to (contact) us.

Asked, and got a reply:

Quote
When we first formed Cool Joliet some of the people who were part of the formation committee were members of JACOB (which has since morphed into Unity CDC which is not associated with churches even though it's the same people.). The Presbyterian Church let us meet there (not so much anymore - we meet at a school now) and there were members of the Universalist Unitarian Church who attended our meetings. But also one reads that C.A.A.N., Potluck Democracy and Will County Environmental Network  are mentioned. C.A.A.N. is an lgbtq organization, potluck democracy is a political one and will county environmental has morphed into C.A.R.E. (Citizens Against Ruining the Environment). 3 church mentions for 3 not churches.

Perhaps these links will be more convincing that CJ is secular:
illinoissierraclub.blogspot.com <-------- I don't think anything is churchy here.
southtownstar.suntimes <-------------- don't see church here either.
will-county-board-republicans-freeze-cool-county-effort <------- even republicans don't think we're churchy.

For what it's worth we're not part of the Sierra Club either.
Despite our group's divergent opinions we are united on doing whatever we can to make a healthy environment.

Cool Joliet's mission is to educate and empower Joliet and area residents about the importance of a healthy and sustainable environment.

Our new project is a movable container garden for families of limited income. Five families who currently have to utilize the services of a food pantry will be chosen to grow 5 vegetables that will provide a relatively balanced diet. The outcome will be a measured. We hope to show that by providing seeds, soil, and a relatively inexpensive container that families can provide for themselves.
Even if we don't get a donation by Bitcoin100 there is one member of Cool Joliet who is a Bitcoin believer who will continue to proselytize bitcoin (but not religion).

So, um, I think they're ok...

Spare Key, www.sparekey.org, a Minnesota-based non-profit that provides rental and mortgage grant assistance to Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin families with seriously ill or critically injured children in the hospital, announced today that it will begin accepting Bitcoin on its website.

Wondering what Bitcoin is? So, too is Spare Key Executive Director Erich Mische who spent the better part of a weekend trying to figure out what exactly it means to Spare Key. “Near as I can tell Bitcoin is a virtual form of currency. The value of the currency is dependent upon the value that is assigned to it,” said Mische. “I think.”

According to the website, www.gizmodo.com , “Bitcoin is not real money. It's an online "currency"—virtual tokens that can be exchanged for goods and services at places that accept it, the same way you'd give someone a dollar for a cookie…”

Mische says that Spare Key is using a service called BitPay. According to BitPay’s site, “BitPay is an electronic payment processing system for the bitcoin currency. We enable online merchants to accept bitcoins, as a form of payment, just as they accept payments from Visa, Mastercard, or Paypal.”

Mische says that accepting donations via Bitcoin is just another way Spare Key seeks to diversify its funding “If the only things we did to raise funds for Spare Key were those things that made absolute sense to us, we’d be in big trouble,” explained Mische. “While I have a general concept of how Bitcoin works I am depending on those donors who grasp its potential and are using it to help educate us through their generous donations of Bitcoin, and maybe come spend an hour or more with me over a cup of coffee and help me figure it all out.”

Donors wishing to use Bitcoin (as well as regular money, credit cards and checks!) can go to

www.sparekey.org/donate to make a contribution.

We are a Michigan based nonprofit whose mission is to help children by determining causation of behavioral conditions through bio-assessment recommendations as well as consultations for safe medication protocols.

Recently I added a couple cryptocurrencies to our donate page (http://caooy.org/index.php/donate) and posted in a few subreddits. This took off and shortly after I was getting multiple messages requesting different coins be added; I'm still working on adding all coins that were requested. I'm very interested in making bitcoin and other altcoins a regular way for people to donate to CAOOY.

I was referred to your site by a user on reddit and was wondering how to become involved. Most of the donations coming in have been for smaller coins, and I am very interested in incorporating bitcoin at a larger capacity .

Hope to hear back soon

I Was looking to Donate to this "Charity" fund but then I found a thread which  the director and a Member seem to be Racists. Care to elaborate Before i donate?  this thread is what concerns me. If you can convince me that you are Not Racists i will donate. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495497.0

FYI: to Mods I'm on topic and Questioning the Authenticity Character of the director and a Member of this group before i donate.

otrkid70 had no intention of donating to Bitcoin 100, having the red-ass toward me long before he found this thread via my sig. Obviously, he's not able to comprehend the gist of the OP of the thread linked, nor the myriad of replies I've put forward to clarify my position.

Being racist, I am not but, if I were, I would clearly state such. I'm almost 100% confident that no others attached to Bitcoin 100 are either racist or homophobic in any sense of said terms.

Glad to see you made it outta Newbie. For all practical purposes, this NPO seems like a viable entity deserving funding from Bitcoin 100.

I'm sure you won't mind if another 24 hours passes so that if anybody has a concern it'll give them time to express it, but I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be a problem. If nothing is posted on this thread shedding any negative light by tomorrow evening, I'll contact Rassah and get the ball a rollin'. In fact, that ball is already in motion with this reply.

Bruno Kučinskas

If they are successful in their application for funding I'll go through the details of setting them up to use Bitcoin.

"Give a man a Bitcoin and he'll convert it to fiat, teach him how to use it and he'll join the economy."

If anyone knows places where the virtual doctors can buy the equipment for their charity in btc it will have an even more positive effect on the Bitcoin economy.

UPDATE: As one of the first charities in the UK to accept donations in Bitcoins, we were delighted when Bitcoin100 chose our charity for a donation and then more than 40 members of the Bitcoin community chose to show their generosity and sent us Bitcoins. Unfortunately the bankruptcy of MtGox, who held our wallet, means we have lost access to those donated funds. We will continue to watch developments in the hope that we can reclaim our missing funds and in the meantime we have opened another wallet on a different exchange. Please use the following address for donations:

1Q2HHrF4jrLSYVMHEGyB9XqPR1hNRexLBq

Thanks!

According to the use of your first wallet - 1G1zNwrLw7xQPWUvRierbg9wrkUCJ2Dort - only a small amount went to Mt Gox prior to Bitcoin 100 endowing you folks.

How where you using Mt Gox as a wallet, when the scuttlebutt during that time frame was "Do not use!"? Virtually, nobody was able to get coins out once place there, thus wondering what issues you encountered during the withdrawal process, and if an issue arose, was the community made aware of issues? Surely, you weren't using the exchange to possibly increase your bitcoin position, where you?

From everything I've read in the past hour pertaining to the Virtual Doctors Project, funds were desperately needed. Were you also taking fiat donations and converting them to bitcoins and placing them on Mt Gox?

From the best of what I can ascertain, the endowment from Bitcoin 100 wasn't transferred to Mt Gox, but used to purchase products or services, or traded for fiat to be used for the cause.

Ideally, I would love to start a campaign to garner up to the $1,000 USD via BTC lost, but unfortunately I can't do that.

The best I can do is via this post, hoping that others will contribute to Virtual Doctors Project to hopefully regain any bitcoins that they may have been lost due to the downfall of Mt Gox.

Dustin S.

The suit, Holbrook et al. v. Jellen et al., filed by the Abolitionist Law Center, details a series of confiscations of Holbrook’s mail since January 2012 that includes academic correspondence with a college professor and issues of The Movement, essays written by Angela Y. Davis and James Baldwin, a newsletter published by HRC which focuses on prison abuse, solitary confinement, and ways that prisoners’ family members can come together to challenge human rights abuses and injustice in the criminal legal system.

Seriously, they seem worthy, Rassah.

Sarisak seeks to bring awareness to the damage caused by overused plastics. Sarisak recycles used Sari’s from rural india and channels proceeds back to the communities themselves.

Thanks,
Gary

Rassah, if they offer up any kind of convincing argument, chances are they should be fine. Use your best judgement when the time comes, but if you feel further review is warranted, come back here and report.

Thank you!

I'd like to suggest https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/individual-fundraising/thewarriorwalk/

Josh is walking from SC to CA to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. He is a great guy and former Professional MMA fighter.

This is a noble endeavor by one of America's finest but, unfortunately, it won't qualify because chiefly the cause isn't a standalone NPO, but one of many on http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.

Ideally, we would love to endow http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ if they opt to embed a Bitcoin donation option onto their website.

Please let us/me know if I'm somehow mistaken.
