I personally prefer to see de Gea leave because after all, at that time Manchester United kept de Gea by increasing his salary when de Gea was in demand to be recruited by Real Madrid. Erik Ten Hag from day one has uped the standards of Manchester United, being supportive to struggling players and at the same time supportive of the introduction of young talented teenagers into the first team.
Erik Ten Hag has principles that will guide the club and players,  supportive staffs to back the players.  Currently,  due to financial circumstances,  they have found it difficult to fund for players signatures.

This is not disrespectful yet, but how awkward would the situation be for De Gea when Manchester United fails at signing a new goalkeeper and then as a second or third solution offer him a new contract. If that is how this is going to play out, he should be asking for a salary higher than he had before. He could be better off signing a new contract as a free agent elsewhere no matter how Manchester United decides.

De Gea is getting old and that's very hard for him to find a good offer because of his age, there are many teams that want to hire a player at this age, even a goalkeeper.
I was expecting to see De Gea finishing his career at Manchester United but unfortunately, he didn't get toe enough respect from this team.

it is not unusual for goalkeepers to play well until they are 37 or 38. It is much more common for them than for field players.

But goalkeepers are not abundantly available and therefore a club that decides to get De Gea knows what they are doing as they can view his history and performances, but I think that De Gea is not top clas in too many games. Sometimes it is an insecure game and people are holding their breath when players pass a ball back to him. It shouldn't be that way. I understand ten Haag when he is trying to get another goalkeeper for the coming season.
