This is an incredible achievement and congratulations to Manchester City and the whole of the team’s management. They’ve started off the season with a draw and a first trophy to complement it. Pep Guardiola have proven once again to be the best manager in this premier league race. He has been the best manager in the league since he joined them in 2016, no any manager have had this great achievement within this period than he has. Manchester City equalized in the final minutes of the game and took the game to the penalty which is in their advantage and won the game. I am not expecting anything less about the team, they’re ready for the next season and I don’t think they’ll perform less than average in what they’ve done so far from the past season.

Im so disappointed at Manchester United, I taught they were getting any better but sadly it appears they aren't, and I'm not happy at their performance, I know I will be sounding like a fan of which I'm not but my biggest concern is that this games wasn't of much importance to Manchester city because looking at their form and strength, they still have got a chance at a trophy this season but Manchester United appears like this is their only chances yet they messed it up,  they did had chances even in the first and second half yet they weren't able to convert or utilize any of them so they just performed terribly, I just hope they get better and try getting the Europa so they have something to fall back at by the end of the new season.

This is a sign that Manchester united has prepared for premier league tournament because what they did in this community competition, make people to know that Manchester city is losing some strength for allowed the game to ended up in penalty shootout. Never praise Manchester city  yet, because I didn't see the improvement in this community competition, despite they won the community trophy, but Manchester united suffer them before they take the advantage of the penalty shootout to beat Manchester united.

Pep Guardiola need to go back and re-prepare his players because if they continue like this in the premier league and UEFA champions league competition, it will be hard for them to reach 4th position in the premier league competition and UEFA competition because Manchester united play very well than Manchester city in this community competition.

It is indeed interesting that Manchester derby is becoming a very tough fight. Just like today, Manchester Utd fought well today, unfortunately their best was not enough to give them the Community Shield. I wish they had won it because it would have been a very big booster for them as the new season begins. That would have also put Manchester City in checks by proving to them that they can be defeated. With the performance of Manchester Utd today, I have the confidence that they will do very well in the new season.

There are a lot of things going on in Tottenham. And I don’t think any player should go into a club where there are problems. To be honest, problems are always going to be in every club. But I think going to Tottenham right now is almost like an additional pressure of having to perform well which he probably doesn’t need right now. And if Solanke had gone to Arsenal, he would have probably had a better time and Arsenal has also competing for the English Premier League title since the last three seasons. So there is a chance that Arsenal would be able to win the English Premier League title final this season and if he went to Arsenal, he would have won the English Premier League title, I think so.

This to me is a very good deal although I don’t actually sit well with the price because it is definitely too expensive and that can put more pressure on the player as many people will use his wages or fees he was signed for to judge him and the more pressure mounted on him could make him lose focus, a clear example is the issue of Richarlison who uptill now cannot find his feet  and form like that of Everton days.

Concerning his choice of Tottenham, I don’t think I see anything bad there, although Tottenham hasn’t won a league for a very long term they still remain part of the big or traditional top 6 clubs in the league and it is a very big upgrade from being at Bournemouth. Arsenal weren’t actually getting serious about signing him, they submitted a bid which was below Bournemouth valuation of the player and for him not to accept the offer by Tottenham will be a risk too big because arsenal could decide not to come back with a new improve bid. So it is all good for him, a proper goal scoring seasons at Tottenham could still get him higher club offers too

when it comes to Manchester Derby, the case is always different and you can't really judge the strength of the individual team. Even after Manchester United were underperforming in the last season and Manchester City were dorminant against most superior teams, when they played thiee last Derby the kind of performance Manchester United put forward was top-notch and they even proceeded to winning that match. It was a great performance from man u but untill they show that they are a team that have the potential of bringing threat to the premier league, it still remains a battle between city and arsenal. Manchester United might not even make it to top 4.

lol! It's ridiculous to assume that thier is a possibility that Manchester City wouldn't make it to top four of the premier league table even after they just defeated Manchester United. Even though they weren't able to do it during the official 90 minutes, it's never a reason to assume that they can't do better in the coming season. Manchester City always finds a way to get to the top of the premier league table and I can always vouch for them anytime, anyday. The champions League is still a real Madrid belonging but if thier is any other result one would expect, then man city is still going to stand in that gap.

It probably wasn't a particularly important game, but a title is a title and it's nice to win it. Luckily I was busy today and completely forgot about the game (I was planning to bet on City to win in regulation time) so I saved money for other bets. So far I've come to the conclusion that at the beginning of the season it's not worth betting on City as they play much worse than bookmakers think (which means the odds won't cover the risk).

That many goalkeepers will definitely be very wasteful for a team because Chelsea will only use a few and it would be more ideal if Chelsea could sell half of that number to other teams and buy some other defenders to fill their defense to make it better.

I don’t know what Chelsea is doing with so many goalkeepers when they can only make use of one in a match. I don’t really think goalkeepers should be what Chelsea will be  fighting for right now, there are other positions where Chelsea is performing poorly that they need to fix. Chelsea's defense is just too poor, it was just too easy for their opponents to penetrate during the preseason matches. I think they need to fix that, because no matter how good a goalkeeper is, if the defense is poor, then people will think the goalkeeper’s performance is poor. When Chelsea are singing, they should focus on quality players and not just signing random players.

It is not only about many goalkeepers, but also Chelsea have so many players that are playing the same positions. With the number of players Chelsea have now, they can form about three squads from them, but still, their performance is very poor, and they keep signing more. If it is possible, Chelsea need to sell some of these players and sign most important quality positions especially defenders, as you said.

 Even with the many players Chelsea have, it can cause confusion for the head coach because he may not fully focus on the important players. He may be trying to rotate them to see their ability, but this can cause him not to discover one great squad. Signing players is a good thing, but when there are many sometimes it may be bad, it is very possible that the head coach may not give each player time to discipline and encourage them. I think it was many players in Chelsea that first caused Pochettino to loses match at the beginning as it was signed as head coach, But later, when he started focusing on one squad, he began to see improvement.

You shouldn't be disappointed at Manchester United for losing in a penalty shootout because penalty is a nobodies game, I am not a fan of Manchester United also but watching them today they had a lot of improvement in the team as they came out to face Manchester City wieh full force and made good goal attempts despite not taking the lead from the first half. You think Pep and his team didn't take the game seriously because Manchester United had a better performance than them that's not true the two teams came out to play their best football but City had a repetation of what they did in the FA cup finals that led to Manchester United defeating them but they were lucky to come back in the last minute of the game and to win in the penalty after John Evans failed to convert his penalty kick.

Guadiola's trophy-winning season shows that he will remain the favorite for the following season. Manchester United performed well in the final, but were not the lucky winner. They scored one goal and thought they had won the trophy again, but Manchester City took revenge and went to penalties. So I can't complain about Manchester United; they do their best but fail to win the trophy. Since Manchester United defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup, I believe Guadiola will avoid blunders this time and win his first prize of the season. Let's see if he can win the Premier League and UCL, but am sure he won't be so easy for them to win the premier league this season because I think Liverpool will try to stop and arsenal. they won't let him do treble. I wish Manchester United win the title this evening so that they will get title for the season. Because he will be hard for them to get trophy now they have lose there opportunities in the first season.

Today we are going to see the match between Manchester United and Manchester City which can be an interesting match since both teams got some new players and both teams had some changes during this summer. Manchester City normally can have more chances based on the performance they had in the last season but the bad news for Manchester City is about their player Jack Grealish. It was so shocking for Manchester City but it seems is injured and he is going to be absent from the game they have against Manchester United.

The match is not as interesting as I expected. Manchester City is totally in control of the game but has not been able to open up the Manchester United defense. United seems to be looking for a lost balls to help them make some counter-attacking runs. But it has not been fruitful with Rashford not being able to use his pace to get the needed effect on the City defense. Both teams are defending really well and have been able to withstand their attacks. Pep Guardiola seems to be frustrated, and it is looking like the same result we had in the FA Cup might happen today.  I have not seen much of Erling Haaland in this game, and Mason Mount is surprising starting the game but not much impact. It will be good to see Erik ten Hag introduce Jadon Sancho, maybe in the second half. Manchester United have missed him. Jack Grealish's presence would have made some difference because of his dribble skills and pace but City attack is not doing badly.

Manchester United have put themselves into the game and for quite some minutes now they have being in total control of the game with two good chances that they were suppose to score but missed it. Both chances were a one-on-one chance with City goalkeeper.

It will be better if United make use of the chances that they are having to net the post because they might not see such opportunities again, and if City have theirs, they might find the back of the post. It is still goalless.

@Frankolala, you were correct when you said it would be better for Manchester United to maximize their chances since the dominating team is City. Marcus Rashford missed a clear chance that would have put United ahead, but Alejandro Garnacho's superb run and clinical finishing gave United the lead. But their waste of opportunities hunted them because a one-goal advantage is nothing for an attacking club like City. Bernardo Silva leveled it up after a sloppy defending from United. Penalty is a game of luck and Manchester United lost the game. Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans were the culprits after missing their penalties. Evans didn't look confident when he stepped out to take the penalty, and as presumed he ballooned the ball over the post. A sad loss for United because they failed to use the opportunities they had.

If the performance of Manchester City is what they will portray in the English Premier League, I am not sure if they will become Champions. The team was not the coherent and perfect side that dominated the EPL. Arsenal might have an easy ride this season.

I have always known that the only way a club can take advantage of City is by scoring whenever they have the chance if not it will be a problem for that club to win City. I will put the blame on Amad Diallo and Rashford who lost those once in a while opportunities.

This new season will not be an easy one for City if this is how they will be playing because I did not see any superb quality in them like last season that they were dangerous. United messed with their match if not they were supposed to be the winner of today's match.

Manchester United should have won the game but they lost concentration and giveaway a goal that took the game to penalties. Andre Onana saved one penalty kick, but I think he only saved it because Silva who played the ball made the kick a very lousy one.

Someone needs to tell Onana that he looks foolish in the new penalty habit he is trying to start of pointing to a direction that he wants a player to play it to. He did it against Gabriel of Arsenal, it did not work, he repeated it again against Haaland, still did not work.

Autumn is strange to say that about a team that went the whole season without defeat, this record is unrivalled and they had the last match of the season left, there were many factors overlapping, but that's not what we're talking about now. For a big game, the Manchester Derby actually looks a little more monotonous in terms of chances. But indeed in this case I quite appreciate what Manchester United showed in today's match.
Penalty failures that when there was already an open road when Bernardo Silva missed a penalty they had to eliminate when Sancho and Evans failed in their penalties.

This can actually be a mental spur but 2 failed kicks make Manchester United must be willing to lose in this Comunity Shield.

The two teams show a lot of interest in winning and Manchester United tried, they scored first just that they can not maintain the one goal because we know that, Manchester City will do everything possible to win and look at what happened at the end of the game. And I was already expecting the city to actually given united a good defeat but Manchester United played hedge to hedge game with them the game even leading to penalty shootout and also from the stats it was not any difference and Manchester City are always looking for ways to actually drag the game to a penalty since they can not add more goals and they know that they might have a better chance in a penalty shootout with Manchester United because of their goal keeper and Silva who scored the goal that lead to the penalty shootout also lost one penalty and their was a lot of substitutions since it was going to be a penalty shootout. That is one of the strategies that are often used by coaches to give their self more advantage during a shootout. And the game ending 7:6 was actually a very close one for Manchester City they would have lost the community shield to united but congratulations to Manchester City once again.

@KTChampion, there is this mistake you made in your write up and a lot of us on this thread have been making such mistake which is why I think it's of a necessity for me to correct it now that I've seen you repeat it again. I've been overlooking all these while but since one of the purposes of this forum is to educate members on issues they have limited little knowledge about, let me call back your attention to it.
You said "a title is a title" which means that you refer to what Manchester City won today today against Manchester United as a title and that's actually wrong. A "title" can only be won in a league be it national or continental. What Manchester City won today was a cup of can be referred as a trophy but not a title. I hope you and every other person who makes similar mistake learns from this correction.

The both teams started the game by playing way too full football that I will bluntly say that this performance needs to be improved for anything to be won during the season, as for Manchester city the difference in their regular performance and this very match was because of their lack of quality players in the team with many players yet to return from their holiday, and this clearly showed that Manchester City with their players back can have an advantage over the other clubs but this match also showed Manchester city weakness this season, before one thing I personally believed that Pep Guardiola usually uses was a large number of good players to boost his squad depth but the recent departure of some players is leaving a huge gap in the team that needs replacement.

As for Manchester United, I will say ten hag really has lots of work to do, Manchester United at some point did raid some part of the game but the team isn’t ready to win anything. Manchester United midfield look like a higher institution or college boys team, the midfield today cannot even compete with even the lower ranked teams in the league. They Also have a strong defense deficiency most especially the left back position. This position situation is part of why I would also say Ten Hag needs to be bold enough to win matches and subsequently trophies too, he should’ve given the young Harry Amass a full debut and should’ve taken Rashford out way earlier than he played,
