2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers

I would like to have New Zealand playing in the World Cup. Australia may or may not qualify (they need to defeat Peru in the playoff), but we need at least one team from the Oceania region.

I would also love to see New Zealand again at the World Cup even they have a small Team and that great players.

The rules are very specific. It's not like they just ban the country and pick a new one to replace them.

I heard that there is a specific rule for exactly this case now with what happend to Ecuador , and if they get banned for this World Cup.
The rule says that best World ranked team that not playing already in the World Cup will getting this place.
But you know the UEFA ( they are like politicans sometimes ) its possible that they give Ukraine also the spot because of the War.

At first I thought to completely refrain from this League of Friendly Games of Nations, but still I try to find interesting options for betting. Yesterday I bet all that winnings on the Netherlands and experienced interesting emotions at the end of the game (oddly enough, the rest of the games seemed less reliable to me). I think tomorrow I can find a couple of quieter options.

Yeah, same. NL was on my tickets both games so far, and the first win was a shame as it was a huge 35/10 one that easily won, whereas the second game was probably not good value and I thought it was all over when Wales equalised with 3 minutes injury time to go. Thankfully, they turned deadly with the final attack of the game but it's actually not odd the other games are less reliable, the results most certainly have.

Anyway, nothing much left till the Peru-Aus playoff in Qatar. I put in a slightly dumb bet on both Oceania teams at around 31/10

This was a great achievement for Gareth Bale. But it is possible because they are very lucky. I didn't think Wales will win against Ukraine. In the 34th minute of the match, Andriy Yarmolenko mistakenly sent the ball into their own net, so that Ukraine lost to 1-0. But I'm happy to see Gareth Bale on the World Cup stage. Gareth Bale is a great player, yet he has never had a chance to play in the World Cup. Hopefully this will be a memorable World Cup for Bale.

There is recent news that Ecuador is likely to be removed from upcoming World Cup because one of their players wasn't eligible to play for Ecuador:

If indeed Fifa's investigation later finds Ecuador wrong, then there is no hope for them other than being removed from the list of participants.
But in this case, there is also a lot of speculation that if they are dropped, it is likely that Italy will appear as a replacement because from some news I read, if Ecuador is removed, the team with the highest FIFA ranking will replace it.

If they kick them out they will probobly add Ukraine because of the war situation and get politics again into football.
So i wouldnt be surprised it they give them a wild card or something or maybe even Italy to get into the World cup because they got knocked out surprisingly

It will be good for everyone if FIFA keeps politics out of sports. First they banned Russia and then provided extra time for Ukraine to prepare for the playoffs. Didn't worked that well, because despite all the help Ukraine still lost to Wales. And now I guess they are planning to get Ukraine participate the tournament after getting Ecuador disqualified. BTW, from what I heard, Chile should be the default replacement for Ecuador. It is going to be either Chile or Italy (depending on whether they are going to consider the rankings for CONMEBOL, or the global rankings).

The most comfortable group in my own opinion is group J. Germany seem to not be having much rivalry as Romania, Liechtenstein and the rest do not seem much of an issue. If you ask me, I think Liechtenstein could be the first to get knocked out of the tournament in the early stages.

there is a possibility that Chile will qualify. That is if the count of the Ecuador match that Castillo participated in is recalculated. with a 3-point win for each team against Ecuador. it would put Chile as the strongest team to qualify.
but if viewed from the final result, then Italy will qualify.
Unfortunately, Ecuador's efforts to qualify for the World Cup will end badly. we are still waiting for the final result from FIFA.

I think so. I'm surprised that Australia has a 4.6 odds of winning and a 2.9 overall odds of qualifying. Despite the fact that Peru is a strong team, these are too pessimistic estimates for Australia. I think that in such circumstances betting on Australia would be a logical move because winning looks more likely than the bookmakers show us.

Great! Then I'm definitely putting in a small bet on that -- Aussies and Kiwis both have always almost been put at high-value odds because they do end up losing/drawing a lot against UEFA and Concacaf teams. I should know, I pick them quite a lot when odds are above 5/1 on ML heh.

But they play in hot Qatar so I wonder is Australia might prefer that... if Peru play at home, the high altitudes always suck the life out of opponents but elsewhere their inferior height is a problem.

By the way, yes! I completely forgot that the play-off will be held in Doha and at least it does not give any advantage to Peru and perhaps gives some advantage to Australia. In any case, the result will be more random than if these teams played at home, so in such conditions, betting on a formal outsider looks like the right decision.

It would be nonsense to replace Ecuador with Ukraine or Italy, but giving their place to Chile would be right decision. I remember few years ago Real Madrid let not eligible player to play in Copa del Rey game and whole team was kicked out if tournament because of it. Anyway, Chile complaint already got rejected.

FIFA is very strict as far as the eligibility criteria for players is considered. But at this point, I don't think that it is fair to disqualify a team from the World Cup, even if one of the players is ineligible to represent the national team. Why punish the entire team, for one player not revealing his foreign passport?

Why Chile complained at this point. Byron Castillo has played 8 of Ecuador 18 WC qualifiers. Chile complaing just to book there place in world cup and I think icc has done the right move by rejecting there complain. You can ban Byron Castillo but not the whole team for him.

It is a delicate matter and needs to be addressed by the Fifa with a appropriate punishment for player and national team. The team should be professional and thorough enough to verify passports and citizenship of their players before letting them play in important games. Of course the player should also be punished in some form, but I agree that it would be inappropriate to question the world cup qualification entirely

Yeah! I'm inclined to think the Aussies might actually have the advantage but that's me playing to stereotypes of the weather and conditions over there. It's still a terrible bet to make and am slightly regretting it -- not so much the Aussies but the Kiwis for sure who're the other leg of my ticket. Two really good footballing sides from Concacaf and two less technical but more physical sides from Oceania, I don't know, logic says physique should win out but they also do need to score to win...

I don't understand why everyone is talking about Ukraine? Ecuador is on a completely different continent, why do people even think of replacing it with Ukraine? It is possible that in Ecuador they don't even know that such a country exists. It seems to me that the world has gone crazy if such options are being suggested. Ukraine is a good country, but that is not a reason to talk about it regularly. Italy had nothing to do with it either, they lost their important matches and will deservedly not go to the World Cup.

Because of the war in Ukraine, people are quite emotional and want to help that country, of course, which is natural.
In addition, it is obvious that Ukraine was damaged by the referees in the match against Wales and that it lost undeservedly.
The same story was a few months ago after Italy surprisingly lost against Macedonia and when this story with Ecuador just started.
Many Italian fans and sympathizers hoped it could be a lifeline for Italy and a way for Italians to go to the World Cup instead of Ecuador.

I read the news mentioned above. Hard luck for Chile - sometime these claim does not work and ther hard part is. Everything is dependent on the LUCK. Had chili be lucky enough they would have got the place in world cup at the first place. This seems like a personal attack - and they faced the music.

At this point, FIFA didn't found any evidence in support of the wild claim by Chile. Their internal investigation found that Byron Castillo is a legal citizen of Ecuador and he doesn't have a Colombian passport. I don't know from where the Chileans got the information that he was originally born in Colombia. In the end, they made a laughing stock of themselves in front of the entire world. If anyone who needs to be punished at this point, then it is going to be the Federación de Fútbol de Chile (FFCh).
