I wouldn't like to underestimate South Korea but I believe that they have a really challenging group in the World Cup. Even Ghana would put up a good fight against them I think. But let's say that they defeated Ghana, I still don't think that they can qualify for next stage of the tournament. Portugal and Uruguay are way stronger teams than them. Maybe we don't have the prime Portugal but they are still strong now. Even if they don't end the group stage as the leader, they would end as the second.

South Korea is a good, disciplined team that can beat Ghana, but it will be almost impossible to beat Uruguay with Cavani and Suarez or Portugal with Ronaldo.
Therefore, Ghana and South Korea will fight for the 3rd place, Ghana and South Korea have a chance to get out of the group only if Uruguay stumbles and plays a draw with one of them. Portugal is sure to beat both Korea and Ghana.

Group H: PORTUGAL, GHANA, URUGUAY, SOUTH KOREA - a very even group, Portugal can advance to the next round after drawing all matches. They have experience  Cool

AHAHAHAH

No more!!! I have no doubts that this is very likely to happen, they are experts at playing to draw. How can a team with such quality play like this... it's a shame, but that's it, they'll get away with it.

Portugal lost when they played against South Korea in 2002. And even one player was sent off - João Pinto. This player, today is part of the management team of the Portuguese federation, which is usually sitting on the bench. Will this be good or bad? We'll see.
I think Group H is a revenge arena. One of the causes of Portugal's failure to qualify for the 2002 World Cup knockout phase was the defeat of the host, South Korea with a score of 0-1. Ghana feels it too. Being in the same group with Uruguay provides an opportunity for the African representative to revans. It's sad that Ghana has been buried for 12 years. In 2010 they could have almost made it to the semifinals if Uruguay striker Luis Suarez had not accidentally cleared the ball with his hands in front of the goal line in the last minute!

This will be more exciting because Portugal's status is definitely underdog and Uruguay is also the same.
but on the other hand, South Korea can be a threat in my opinion, especially with Song also there.
Uruguay is indeed quite good with Cavani and Suarez but on the other hand I think they are senior enough even though they do have an impact but not too much.
Portugal have quite a lot of hope with Ronaldo's last world cup and of course they don't want to give a bad last memory to their superstar

This is the last World Cup for Ronaldo and it would be good if Portugal achieved something at the World Cup with him.
As for the fact that Portugal is playing a draw and this is supposedly bad - I do not agree. If the team at least draws, then no one is stronger  Cool For example, in the semi-final of the 2012 European Championship, Portugal lost only in the lottery to the future champions - Spain. If you look objectively, then Portugal is consistently good.

It would be really a great achievement for Ronaldo to end his national career by winning a World Cup indeed. But I just think that Portugal are a sad case about that for now. During the qualifiers phase, I didn't like Portugal's performance at all. They don't seem to be one of the favourites for this title. However there is no rule like the favourite teams always win of course. But my favourite team for this title are absolutely Brazil. They have been incredible so far. I don't see any European team better than them for now. France might be the closest.

We can't make early predictions, none thought that Italy will go out of the qualifiers. Things happened in the opposite way. Portugal have got an opportunity, and it is great that Ronaldo who had appeared in all the World Cup since 2006 have got the chance to win World Cup. Because Ronaldo and Messi being titled on different leagues weren't able to win a world cup. This time one amongst can make history.

A Ronaldo world cup would put this lad in the immortal books which could take several years to break the records he has so far, but one step at a time i guess.

During the qualifiers phase, I didn't like Portugal's performance at all. They don't seem to be one of the favourites for this title. However there is no rule like the favourite teams always win of course.
And I agree that Portugal are not in the easiest of groups but these guys have done it before to come top against all odds when they won the Euros but the world cup is a different ball game which breaks the strongest of teams but I think they are more than capable to conquer this one.

Brazil golden days are over but certainly not a write off but I wouldn't mind seeing France take as they are a good team too.

Maybe!?

Portugal problem is the coach, because in terms of players there should even be a greater probability.
I don't see Portugal winning the World Cup either, unfortunately, but it's a real possibility given the quality of the players in question.

I believe that Brazil has a great probability, but continued to think that England will be the main candidate for victory.

Even if Portugal has christiano Ronaldo and some other good players I think it will be hard for them to win  the world cup. Portugal has never won FIFA World Cup before, Brazil  has won  the Cup several times , Brazil might have the possibility to win the Cup because from experience they know how to go about it.

Personally, I think Portugal and especially Ronaldo reached their peak at the last World Cup 2018.
In these World Cup qualifiers, it was clear that Portugal was no longer so dominant, and they even lost in the fight for first place in their qualifying group to Serbia at home.
Ronaldo is also no longer as dominant a player as he was a few years ago.
Brazil has not been a world champion for 20 years so I don’t understand what kind of experience we are talking about here.
For me personally, Brazil is not the main favorite for the title but France and Spain.

Sure, Ronaldo is aging, but he can still be a huge factor, especially in a tournament like this. Portugal was beaten by Serbia in the qualification, but it was a close race for the top, it could have ended the other way easily.

Looking at the current odds, bookmakers have Brazil @6.0 and then France and England at @6.5, so this is a ~40% chance that one of those 3 will get the title.

Brazil will be my choice even though the odd given to Brazil is small it call for great concern because of the Ronaldo fracture this and many more other things to consider before betting

I believe that Cristiano Ronaldo shouldn't be able to lift that cup.
I believe that Portugal can at most reach the quarter-finals, but that's too much to expect from a team that barely managed to qualify for the World Cup.

However, I've been taking a look at futscience.com and I've noticed that they point to Portugal as having "some chance" of winning the Fifa world cup...
Brazil has a 15.2% probability of winning, England and France have 12.8%; Spain, 9.3%; Germany, 7% and Portugal, 6.4%.

Why is the coach a problem in the case of the Portuguese national team? In general, with him, Portugal won the European Championship in 2016, constantly enters all qualifying tournaments and then leaves the group and reaches the last stages. Right now they are playing, even if not always interesting, but stable and can finish off any opponent. A very unpleasant team, with almost no weaknesses.

I will put my bet on Portugal - they have amazing team and they have an amazing spirit.
But Brazil is also a good option to bet on. As mentioned above Ronaldo is again but his son will be ready to enter the field so we will a young Ronaldo in coming days.

Grin one more please!

I believe that Cristiano Ronaldo shouldn't be able to lift that cup.

Why not? Of course I don't believe in it (although I would like it to happen), but these are national teams and not a round robin but knockout matches with only one game (not a home game - away game). In this format, each team has a chance against any other. The most difficult (for Portugal) will be the group stage - all teams are about equal in strength and I think that everyone will try to play against Portugal as the second number, which may not be very convenient for their sharp attack.

Apart from that I think the reasons about the coach are also quite reasonable. Fernando Santos is a person who is not very strong in terms of leadership in terms of coaching, in my opinion, the strategy he uses is not too good and sometimes the strategy is too old. on the other hand he is also still quite lost to the players. For example, when Portugal won the Euros because there he was more silent and lost to Ronaldo, especially in terms of instructions

What I can say as Portuguese, is that his strategy is no longer well seen among the fans. Of course, if you win, people change their opinion, but nowadays nobody believes that the team will go far.

Why? Well, we've all noticed that he plays "dear" players, when they are no longer better players. Then, put the team to play in a style that only promotes a draw or a victory by the minimum score. A team that has the best defenders, the best midfielders and one of the best forwards, cannot limit itself to playing in a style of waiting for what will happen.

Of course, if all goes well, it will be well seen. But it doesn't have a lively style of play for a team with such good players.

In my opinion, Fernando Santos is one of the smartest modern national team coaches. With a team that is not the strongest in terms of composition, he won two titles (the European Championship and the League of Nations) and consistently shows good results. He prefers "reliable" game schemes and this is quite understandable - Portugal beats "light" opponents one way or another, but the team's main competitors are much stronger and you have to use tactical tricks to beat them. I don't understand how you can blame him for bad style of play. He chooses his formation for each match with a strong opponent individually and mostly he succeeds. But we cannot demand that he consistently beat France, Brazil, Germany, etc.
