It's no question that GGG won the first fight. The second fight could go either way. And hardcore boxing fans always remember that Canelo only fought 35 and 36-year-old versions of GGG. Those were not even prime GGG. If Canelo wins this trilogy, then he won against a 40-year-old GGG moving up in super-middleweight. It doesn't affect the first fight where GGG clearly won and that 50/50 second fight. Those punch stats are possibly not 100% accurate but it's close and it won't lie. GGG is always the better middleweight than Canelo. The great Joe Calzaghe won against an old version of Roy Jones at light-heavyweight. But that doesn't mean Joe is better than Roy at 175.
Couldn't put it any better than this. I was following unofficial scorecards from various media broadcasters before the final score was announced (for the first fight). I might have checked half a dozen, and Golovkin was well ahead in each of them. But when the official scorecard was out, it was a draw. And just because Adelaide Byrd thought that Canelo deserved to win. It was a big shame to the sport of boxing that such a biased jury decision was being made. But in the end, Canelo won as per the records. And the match was stolen from Golovkin. Yeah, majority of boxing community and commenters and outlets have Golovkin winning by at least a point or two in their scorecard. And then after the fight was announced, there was a public outcry of the result and says that Golovkin was robbed by the judges and I think we all agree. And the same with the second fight result, very close fight and the score could go either way depending on who you are going to ask or who has watch the fight live.

Well, hopefully the debate will be over after this fight because GGG will try to win here and hopefully he will succeed. Until now, I can still see the support of the fans, especially here in bitcointalk because most of us here voted for GGG to win, with 68% of total voters for GGG, these people will be so happy if GGG wins.

It will only end if there's no more chance of a next fight, remember that this is a trilogy, if GGG will lose, there's no reason for him to fight again unless Canelo will give him another chance. The controversy will leave if GGG will win the fight as that controversy will hype the possible next fight.

I will speculate that Lara will be elevated to the regular champion status by WBA. And if GGG is ready maybe next year then he can fight Lara but not right after his Canelo fight. He needs to take a break as well as you have said. If WBA is not keen on that, then Lara as champion will have his mandatory against the top fighters in the WBA ranking. And I think the IBF/IBO might be willing to give GGG more leeway as compare to WBA so he might retain that title after the fight.
Even if Golovkin wins against Canelo, I don't think that he should fight against Lara. From what kasabus posted, Golovkin will earn in the vicinity of $35 million from the trilogy fight against Canelo. A match against Lara would net him a tiny fraction of that amount. So I don't see any point in agreeing to a bout against Lara. Irrespective of whether he wins or loses against Canelo, Golovkin will be able to attract much better opponents. And a boxer who is very close to retirement doesn't care much about any of the belts. Is that so? Well, if that's the case then I think GGG will just have to pick one belt that he would keep and just let the WBA strip him up because that fight against Lara will not amount for at least one-fourth compared to what he could get on this upcoming trilogy. Fact is that Gennady Golovkin will receive at least $43 Million (Salary and PPV included) total purse from this trilogy versus Canelo Alvarez. Win or lose, GGG must rest after this fight because he didn't had enough time to rest himself and recover from that match against Murata because he had to train again against Canelo afterwards.

Agreed. He is 40 years old and I don't think that he will participate in more than 2-3 fights after the trilogy fight against Canelo. And therefore he needs to pick his opponent carefully. I am not saying that Erislandy Lara doesn't have any quality. But in the end, it is money that matters. If Golovkin feels that this particular fight is not rewarding enough, then he will definitely skip it. And at this point, most probably he doesn't give any attention to the different belts. In the unlikely scenario of Golovkin winning the trilogy fight, we can't rule out a fourth fight between these two boxers.

It's up to GGG now whether he really wants to take the risk with his current age to keep making some fights although it will be very difficult because it's rare at an old age that boxers can win. Or do you want to find something safe for yourself. I don't think the safe-seeking option is a bad thing although there will be some perceived cowardice but it's better than continuing to fight without certainty for win.

I bet nobody would say that GGG is coward if he would choose not to fight against Erislandy Lara after this upcoming trilogy, GGG has been through many fights in his career and earned himself a respect, I'm quite sure about that though. Honestly, 4 months preparation time for a 40 years old boxer? What is the WBA up to? They should at least put up a good amount and time for recovery because there is really a big chance that he will get more weary after the trilogy, knowing what Canelo could give.

Agree with you. There should be no problem for GGG taking another fight but they should give enough him time to fully prepare compared to a 4 months period after his fight with Canelo. He is against a fighter that is currently in its prime and the most dominant at its comfort weight that's why it's possible that GGG might receive serious damage from Canelo that will take several months of healing. GGG always accepts challenges if it was mandated. But that's a different story if the preparation time is really short. I hope the boxing council that holds his title will put a consideration about this.

LOL.. see who is talking. It was Canelo who ran away from the trilogy fight, after the help he received from the judges during the first two matches. Golovkin wanted to fight him in 2019, but Canelo was afraid of him and delayed the fight for three years. Now I don't think that anyone would accuse Golovkin of cowardice. GGG has never refused to fight anyone, if the terms and conditions are unbiased. Now coming to Erislandy Lara, I don't think that he is a stronger fighter when compared to either Canelo Alvarez or Ryōta Murata.

Yes, with such an amount of money, win or lose, he can plan his retirement and enjoy the money with his family. He doesn't need to choose if which belt that he wanted to keep or if in anyhow he loses the fight, it's better to set his retirement and be remembered as one of the tough fighter from this division. Though we don't know what might be the plan, but for sure it will be more about the upcoming fight and nothing else for now.

Who you've got on this fight?
I probably will go for Golovkin he has not been dominated or badly hurt by any of his opponents, just recently Canelo was dominated at some point hurt by Bivol he was totally exposed, and once you are exposed your future opponents will look and try to exploit that weakness. Golovkin has something to look for and work out, Bivol exposed Canelo's weakness, Canelo cannot look for Golovkin's weakness because after their last fight he just gets better, as you can see the way he intimidates Golovkin, he's trying to impose himself for the first time in his opponent.

Nonsense, before Canelo lost against Bivol, he already lost against Mayweather. This mean he already got exposed and GGG should won since he was fought 2 times after Canelo's lost, but why did GGG didn't won? Many people said Canelo is too young to fight Mayweather, but having a win streak for 43 fights and defended his belt for many times aren't that young, everyone should realize Mayweather won over Canelo's prime. Mayweather won against Canelo since he landed more punch and evade many Canelo's punch. Bivol won against Canelo since he landed more punch and he protect many Caleno's punch with his both hands. GGG box style aren't similar like Mayweather and Bivol who have beaten Canelo.

Yes, I also voted in favor of GGG too but not because I really believe that he will give a statement this time and put a win on his side. Don't get me wrong because I know GGG can somehow make it too and give another upset to Canelo but that will be really hard for him to defeat the current Canelo who's at the peak of his prime while GGG is quite older this time. I just want to see GGG win this time despite their differences because I have a feeling that whatever the result is, this will be the last and final fight of his career. Also, I don't really think that he will care to fight Lara with that given time.

In the unlikely scenario of Golovkin winning the trilogy fight, we can't rule out a fourth fight between these two boxers.
I agree with this, if GGG wins then the trilogy will be tied with a slight edge to GGG due to his age and the fact that many fans think that at least one of the fights was stolen from him. If GGG won then Canelo will want to fight him again to get the score against GGG in his favor again, and since GGG does not have too many fights left in him another fight with Canelo will be a good idea, as the amount of money he will receive will be way better than whatever any other boxer could offer him.

Regardless of the result and if the fourth meeting will happen between Canelo and GGG after the trilogy, that will take some time as there's already a plan for both about their next fight after the trilogy. I think that won't be changed. Canelo surely does have a plan now for his next fight after GGG and that might be a rematch against Bivol or other boxers with a title. GGG on the other hand was ordered by the WBA to fight Lara 120 days or 4 months after the trilogy. If there's the 4th meeting between these 2, GGG might be around 42-43 years old by that time.

Who you've got on this fight?
I probably will go for Golovkin he has not been dominated or badly hurt by any of his opponents, just recently Canelo was dominated at some point hurt by Bivol he was totally exposed, and once you are exposed your future opponents will look and try to exploit that weakness. I would agree that Canelo was exposed by Bivol. But not sure if those weaknesses can be exploited by others boxers on Canelo. It was really Bivol's speed and strength and height that carry him. While Canelo faces boxers like that in the past but was all a failure. Golovkin has something to look for and work out, Bivol exposed Canelo's weakness, Canelo cannot look for Golovkin's weakness because after their last fight he just gets better, as you can see the way he intimidates Golovkin, he's trying to impose himself for the first time in his opponent.
Golovkin will really have to go out in full 12 rounds with his guns blazing. He should not give Canelo any breathing room and feel confident in this fight and hopefully he can really win this one.

The last two fights ended in 12 rounds, that's not a problem for GGG IMO. Though he is older than Canelo but age is just a number I believe, GGG has a good chin, there's no way he will get KO in this fight, I think upset is more possible.

What do you mean that is not a problem for him? He lost a controversial second fight, and as what we have been discussing, it could go either way if not for the judges. And then in the 1st fight, I and the majority here thinks that GGG did enough to win. So that is where the problem for GGG is, he has been robbed, then try to chase Canelo for years and now he has another chance again, but the age though. Canelo waited for many years before agreeing to a trilogy.

A good strategy is to wait for the opponent's retirement age before accepting the fight, nice play by Canelo. If the trilogy happened right away after their rematch, Canelo might experience kissing the canvass because of GGG punch. Not expecting GGG will still be the same compared to their 1st match and rematch but it's expected that he will give Canelo's boxing career another difficult fight. Not expecting a Knock-Out win from GGG but I want to hear the announcer saying GGG will be the winner at the end and the referees raising his hands leaving Canelo silent in his corner thinking about how he lost that fight.

Canelo waited for many years before agreeing to a trilogy.
I'm not sure if it's about something to take advantage of GGG's age before agreeing to the trilogy but Canelo claimed several times already that a trilogy is not needed and necessary to do as he clearly won the first two fights. He is also chasing titles during that time for his goal of becoming the undisputed champion before moving up a weight class that is beyond his comfort weight. Although a bit late that the trilogy is supposed to happen much early, the most important thing is, that it was officially organized and everything is now smooth and just waiting for the official date to come, September 17.
