It would still be prudent to not leave any bitcoins hosted there for any length of time greater than 10 minutes.
There is no reason to.

Of course you don't need to if you have better options for storage. That's also why we'll add the "buy-into-external-address" feature soon, if you want to handle the storage of your bought Bitcoins yourself.

For most people though it's probably a safer option than just running a Bitcoin client on their computer, which most of time is not properly secured.

Web wallets get hacked all the time. Computer wallets get hacked all the time as well.
Solution? Hybrid P2SH wallets - safer than your online and offline wallets combined. Check it out, store and trade your Bitcoins with ease of mind!

Another round of 10% payouts was sent. The evaluation for BTC payouts was 150 EUR/BTC, which is today's lowest rate (lower is better, because you get more coins). If I missed anybody please PM me, as it's the quickest way to reach me.

We didn't close it, the server was reconfigured yesterday and it probably impacted the splash page. The beta site is still operational at beta.bitalo.com. We'll try to fix the splash page asap.

argargarg!!

Bitalo uses MePIN for two-factor authentication. This solution is more secure than standard token-based two-factor solutions. To use it, install MePIN app on your smartphone, and after setting it up, click on the link below:

You will be able to buy Bitcoins directly to an external Bitcoin address after we launch. There will be also an option for using SMS-based 2-factor authentication. Stay tuned for more information Smiley.

Probably not, we rejected idea of Google Auth because it's vurnable to secret key stealing when setting up 2-factor authentication if user's computer is compromised. MePIN is much more secure than that.

I've never heard of this MePIN. Is it open source? What if the user's phone is compromised? Does it work on older smartphones (like Symbian)?

As far as I can see I won't be able to run it on a Nokia 5800 so I'd probably be interested in the SMS auth, do you have an ETA on that?

Thanks

MePIN is a commercial 3rd party service.

We hope we can make sms verification or similar available for the public beta launch, but this depends also on other factors such as MePIN support

They are quite new in the field, but we tested them extensively and we're pretty sure they're the best solution for us and our users right now. They support two platforms currently (iOS and Android), plus they have a dedicated USB key you can buy for 10 Euro (which we don't support yet, but are looking in as well) and support SMS-based 2-factor. These cover all possible use cases as I see it.

You can learn more about them on their website: http://www.mepin.com

If you plan to store more than 1 BTC in your wallet (either for long-term storage or for trading), I would consider spending around 0.3 BTC for a cheap Android device (you can get new HTC Wildfire S for under 100 EUR; there are probably even better options) for added security of 2-factor. This is good be

However if you will only buy on Bitalo and not store any funds, you'll be able to use it without 2-factor.

Sioux: we are still in private beta. We plan to launch at BitcoinExpo conference this weekend in London. You will be able to use Bitalo without smartphone after the launch to buy coins and send them to your external Bitcoin wallet, but if you want to store Bitcoins with us, you need a smartphone for the 2-factor.

Mentore: because we're close to the conference and launching the website, processing the refunds had lower priority lately. I will do my best to send them before the end of this week though.

x12345: my records show that you already received three partial refunds, same as everyone else. Check your Bitcoin address that you've entered in the payout form.
