The gambler has a creative way but also a very risky way to still be able to finance his gambling desires because any crime cannot possibly be perfect without leaving traces, but maybe he doesn't think so because in the media that contains this story he even says what he is doing cannot categorized as a crime but only a family dispute, meaning that he really doesn't have a right and clear mind so his desire to gamble has eclipsed all good things.
However, from the news, that he was addicted because he was having a hard time so he used gambling as an escape, it was indeed difficult to continue gambling with responsibility, especially if the gambler was not aware of his addiction so that no one could help him get out of these difficult times.

If you can use gambling as entertainment and get pleasure and not become addicted to gambling, you are using gambling properly. But sadly, many people have become addicted to gambling because they get out of control after playing several games for a while. Well, gambling addiction is a curse for sure, and people go so low only to fulfil their desires if they don't have anything left they have for themselves then such incidents start to happen, and believe me, this is not the worst case I've heard and people can steep even lower than this and I'm more surprised because of the age of the suspect.

I think it really affects their mind, I don't want to be rude but using your family member for you gambling addiction is not a stable person can do. It really needs a professional help for this thing, they can do a lot worse thing if they will not be put in rehab. Truly,  being addicted will not only destroy you, it will also destroy your family and everyone around you. It will not be easily recovered so better to change the habits before it gets worst.

I am not against gambling because personally we are also involved in it, gambling which is made as a job will end tragically, especially if it is run by people whose financial capabilities are unstable.

He was being innovative and showing initiative in figuring out how to continue to gamble. Give the guy some credit lol.  Maybe the guys back was against the wall and he owed a lot of money to a loan shark? Something was not reported as to what made this guy go as far as he did and try to harm his own family.

This is really insane and I think I've see even worst cases as this and I've seen cases where a man had to wear a custom just to hide his identity from his family because he thinks the money win from the jackpot migy get into the head of his family and make them lazily but I never agreed with that and now another story if a grandfather trying to kidnap his granddaughter simply because he wants to have more mkeny to gamble and rather than trying to brutalize this persons, I think it will be best that they be taken into a correctional center so that the necessary can be done on them rather than blaming them.

This is a very unusual story about crime because of gambling but it really happens, those who are addicted to gambling cannot think about what is right and what is wrong imagine committing a crime against his own granddaughter so he can just continue to gamble, if you're 65 years old you should be enjoying retirement and enjoy the fruit of your labor, now because of his addiction to gambling, he'll have to spend his retirement years in prison.
Unimaginable for a 65-year-old, I guess he'll have to file a parole so he can be with his family to ask for forgiveness.

This is true, it looks like he had kept his gambling activities as secrecy from his wife and family. Many used to gamble together, when the gambling activity is on the losing streak the family members used to take decision to stop gambling. By the time husbands used to suffer as they can't control their habit. This is where they try to keep it as a secret and when they weren't able to manage the loss ends up with such bad behaviour. As said rather than saying gamble responsibly it is good to teach them how to gamble responsibly.

That's some crazy story!  Kidnapping his own granddaughter just for gambling money? It's really scary how far some people can go when they're addicted. Like, common sense just goes out the window when you no longer have any money with you. But not going to lie, I have heard crazier stories like how someone literally faked his own death buy burning someone else or something similar (can't actually remember but did happen). Ironically when there are people who cannot control addiction in gambling, this is just a small example of many gamblers that ended worse and there are some who end their lives because they are in debt when gambling. Gambling is responsible when you are not addicted and when it cannot be controlled, in my opinion it is difficult to be responsible for gambling choices.

The problem is how you put gambling, if done only for fun in spare time is not a problem. But when gambling is done as a substitute for permanent work, this will be far more problematic and it is very difficult to control, the decision is in each of us and as much as possible avoid addiction in gambling.

Gambling don't have responsibility over the players. Players have the sole responsibility over themselves and their gambling habits. It's not as if gambling games can adjust to a person's need or want. It's our decision whether we will play and bet or not. It's just that, sometimes people go overboard their capacity that leads them to being addicted in the process.

Addiction is a serious matter of dependency on gambling because of the thrill, excitement, entertainment, and/or profit it brings. If a gambler won't set limitations and boundaries on to what extend he will play and spend money, there will be a high chance that he'll get lost in the process. What a crazy story, really sad that somebody would do such a thing to his own family. Even in the worst situation I would never consider hurting my family deliberately. I know that addictions are a terrible thing, but so far I haven't met anybody who was severely affected by a gambling addiction. Over the years I met quite a few people who are struggling with alcohol, drugs or tobacco addictions. But when it comes to gambling I know people who play every second day and might categorise as addicts, even though they would never use any money that they can't afford to lose. It's really hard to try and understand such a behaviour if haven't experienced addictions in such a form. Hopefully this doesn't lead to other people trying to copy it.

Too hard to imagine how this thing happens but too unfortunate that it really exists.
Addiction is too powerful that a person could really change their behavior and will commit criminal activities for the sake of fulfilling their addictions.
I can really attest to this one, although it was a different story with that person OP but the reason is the same and he committed a crime (stealing) because of gambling addiction. He is not like that before but due to addiction, send him to jail.
