The fact that,  no matter what the level of your self discipline,  as long as you gamble excessively,  you are already an addict,  the only difference between the so called successful and the cure addicts who become overly indebted die to they non controlled gambling and spending that make them ruin in the first place and the only differences between both is that the successful gambler have money to sponsor his addictions.

The difference is clear between successful gamblers and addicted gamblers. As successful gamblers, they will not be easily tempted by whatever is offered because they have better self-control than other gamblers. I think that the word addict implies when a job or hubby controls a  person, when the person persists in doing the same thing even when they're having loses and they don't know how to stop. It is different from being a professional who is in control and knows when to take a break or quit. So inasmuch as the gambler is a professional who knows when to take a break, stop and know when is the right time to come back and continue, tha gambler can not be classified as an addict. If a gambler who is successful in winnings and is also in charge of his emotions, that gambler is a  professional, not an addict.

Besides I do not really think there is any way for an addicted gambler to become successful, since their addiction severely limits their ability to think and use their common sense.
