Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.

Well, in my case it's not a secret, but I'm not telling it around either. The people closest to me know about it, but with people who are not so close I am careful not to talk about it simply because it is frowned upon and I have nothing to gain from it. Even less so if the subject comes up because someone talks about a family member or friend who has a problem with gambling. The more discreet we can be about these things the better.

The question is, what should we be proud of from our gambling activities? do you when we gamble and can win it is an achievement that must be told to many people? of course not, if someone keeps their gambling a secret it is natural not because they are ashamed of what they are doing but more to protect their feelings because often many people identify gambling with bad things, even though there is a lot of news that people are addicted and do bad things because gambling there are many more who can still gamble with full responsibility without ever harming other people and also themselves because they are always within the limits. Especially if you live in a very strong environment regarding religion then you will face judgment as a bad person because of gambling, so if you as a gambler are not ready for the consequences of people's opinions then it is better to keep it secret including when you can win a jackpot that can change your life then you must find a way to use the money sensibly because excessive change will make others suspicious.

The strongest reason they keep it a secret is because their goal is just for fun not to seek wealth in gambling because in terms of their religion, they may know that the results obtained from gambling lead to grave sins.

not sure if my answer has been answered by other people but this is according to my own original story that my wife or I know about my gambling activities so if sometimes I win big there is something Im proud of for my wife but not for other people out there. Im also sure that all the people on this forum who gamble must have the same characteristics, namely being anonymous or keeping their gambling activities secret from anyone, its just that here you know the name of the account but do not know who the person is.
in my city most of the season considers gambling a sinful activity so there is no other option to keep the gambling activity secret from the public. but even so there are also many people in certain parts of my city who still gamble in public places even though the majority are also muslims but they do not want to know about other people activities and its like the right of each person to carry out any activity as long as it does not interfere with other people lives.
but choice to keep gambling activity a secret would be better because it avoids something bad.

Maybe that's not the strongest reason since maybe that is one of the reason but if many people could accept this activity for sure many will tell on what they are doing recently.

Gambling that is carried out in secret is not known by other people if there is a desire to avoid family or other closest people who aim to prevent negative views. For me that's a form of excuse even if you don't think it's a strong reason.

But since outlook of people still negative about gambling then for sure many will keep this as secret ans they will hide such thing to anyone especially to people cannot understand that what currently they are doing is only just for fun.

This is another part behind the reason why they continue to do it despite the risks that will be received from the various factors mentioned by the OP in the contents of this topic when they are found to be related to gambling.

No one will try to steal your winnings, this is nonsense, it's like saying that your salary will be stolen if you bring it home. In addition, I doubt that the winnings can be so big to attract anyone's attention, for this you need to be a big player, and mostly gamblers play for small money. We live in a society where people have different views about something and these views could be drawn based on different constituent like personal sentiment, religion, ideology and experience. And speaking of gamble there are those that view it as an irresponsible activity to embark on and whoever is into it is tag as irresponsible guy, for some it beyond being irresponsible but a sin something that is evil,  while some others out of an ugly experience of a loved one that got ruined by it due to extreme addiction.

These factors has made a number of gamblers to keep their gambling habit a secret doing all they could not to let friends and family  know they gamble. And it does seem like they ain't proud of what they're doing.

     -    There are many people who think that gambling is not good, no matter what angle it is, it is not good at all and we know that ourselves. Now the question is why are we still doing it? that is because of various reasons, one of them is just to pass the time or entertainment, maybe for others it removes temporary stress from their problems and for others it is a tool for them to get rich.

Those are just some of the reasons, now when a gambler becomes an addict there is a problem that leads to the destruction of family, personality, and others. other gamblers keep it a secret because they know that other people will look down on them if they find out that you gamble. The good acquaintance with you they don't want to be different from others so they hide it.

Yes, at least tell someone you trust, for example family or wife, friends don't have to know that we are gambling because it doesn't matter that many people know we are gambling and we don't have to be proud of ourselves even though we are professional gamblers, even so there is nothing to be proud of either being a gambler is like a disgrace in my opinion.

As long as we tell someone who can be trusted, of course that's more than enough because when we get stuck in becoming an addict, at least there is support from that person to help us get out of addiction, let alone help set a budget for gambling, that's even better because I did that too on my wife where i was more honest with her to set my gambling budget for fun.

We can't all be the same, what is horrific to many, some can have joy over them, I don't like it when people know what I am doing, we are not from the same place and experiences differs,  when I was young I always put people first but later I figure out that some people come into my life to check if I am climbing up or sinking into the ground, if it looks more like I am not progressing they are happy about it.

When I started investing in crypto I kept it as secret, I did this because I was around negative people who only know how to stop you from becoming anything.

To cut all this short, just because I don't tell people that I am into Bitcoin investment then why haven't I sink? I think it's dangerous to let people know what you are into unless they are your spouse, wife and kids, apart from these, people don't want the best for you anyway, very hard to believe but it's real.

it's better and safer to look hopeless and dumb in the face of the world, you know what you are into, grinding in the back, telling people can bring up strong walls in your path to freedom, for your path to become clearer you must keep your progress a secret.

In my case, I have not talked about any of my dices sessions to my family, it is because I rather find it to be irrelevant, since I have not turned gambling into a very strong habit I do everyday, I am rather a casual gambler and casual drinker.

Though, this thread and other posts I have written today have made me conspired to tell them about my casual activities, just for them to know I trust them and also so they can check on me when they believe there is something wrong happening to me.

I think most of gamblers experiment shame, I would bet there is an study about it somewhere on the internet.

You did right because, you know, prevention is better than cure. In my case I'm also a very casual gambler so, although my family knows that I play from time to time, I don't tell them every time since I also believe that it is irrelevant. But this is the first step to develop an addiction: underestimation.

So I might think about it twice and don't feel shy or ashamed when I do it, so maybe I should be even more transparent with them.

It depends on the level of his gambling addiction and how he can control his money to gamble. But indeed, when he has a gambling addiction, he can use money from anywhere, including from his own office, to gamble in the hope that he can win and return the money to his office. Not everyone likes going public being a gambler, if you had never learnt anything about this forum then know that privacy is very important and well taught on this platform, when we remain being predictable by the people around us, they set to know about what we are upto and they can use that as against our wish anytime they wanted to, this is not being proud as a gambler or not because we are not gambling to entice anyone, we should first considers ourselves before what others may say.

You do have to keep it if you're so insecure about your habit and you care too much about what people say, I say let them judge you, you're living on their heads rent-free, don't you want that? People waste their time talking shit about you? It's not like their words will be a problem for you. And also, keeping your habit known means that when it becomes an addiction, people can intervene and help you. I can give you an example of why you shouldn't keep your habits especially the destructive ones a secret, Hillel Slovak and Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers are both heroin junkies but Hillel wasn't as open to his habit unlike Anthony and so he's mostly alone when he scores which ended his life due to an overdose and with no help around him, he passed away.

This is a nice point of view. I share the same sentiments.

Personally, I also think that making your gambling habits known by those people who are close to you important and helpful in a way. This is because they can guide and give suggestions to you for the betterment of your routine and habit. Like you said, people can intervene when they see something you are doing is wrong already, hence, you won't likely fall into addiction. You can also confide to those people who know you once you are going through a rough patch and not resort to anything that could harm you. After all, no man is an island.

You don't have to tell it to other people who you aren't comfortable with. You can just share your gambling habits to your loved and trusted ones so you can be checked upon once in a while.

it's not that they are not proud of what they do, it's just that they are a bit uncomfortable with other people who are predominantly religious in their environment or they don't want to get involved in things that bother them if people find out that he is a gambler.

because I am also in a condition like this, where the people around me are quite religious and I don't want them to know I am a gambler, because I am lazy enough to listen to their words if they know that I am a gambler.

But that doesn't mean I'm not proud of what I do, I'll still do this even if one day they find out that I'm a gambler. because what I do doesn't harm other people and I use my own personal money, so it's up to me whether I want to gamble or not.
