Devs,

I hope the official wallet will have some way to name any particular wallet file that you have open. It'd be a nice feature to see in the GUI different names that you've given, even if the wallet files themselves are all called wallet.bin.

It's very annoying opening different wallet files in BitcoinQT and the only thing I see immediately different about them is the total - even this can be confusing if you have more than one wallet with similar totals.

Even better for the official wallet would be the ability to open and easily manage several wallet files at once.

I look forward to the finished product, whenever it comes. I'm sure it'll be awesome.

u can already name the walletfile anything you want. Each wallet file has its own unique address.

official client with multiple wallet management.... could be useful, and I assume this is happening.

I saw a interesting post a bit ago about Monero there:

Quote
This is a fair suggestion. With all the scams that have been plaguing the darknet recently, I propose a redeemable reward scheme that would provide incentive for vendors and users to use the market, while also receiving the opportunity to make a "passive income" from regular use of the market. Such a thing would benefit the community as a whole by placing the trust in both the market itself and the users, as the market would need the users to actually use the market, and the users would need the market to gain a passive income, just from being an active buyer/vendor.

Redeemable Rewards Scheme:

Reedamable Rewards constitute as "coupons" that are given to vendors/buyers for using the market for an (x) amount of time, or having placed/sold an (x) amount of items, or having gained an (x) amount of trust/positive feedback.
Profit's from the market via fees collected from escrow/vendor signups would have a percentage of the money put back into Reedamable Rewards, to reward loyal Vendors and Buyers.
The use of mandatory multisig would prohibit any theft from occurring, such as what happened in Evolution recently
The rewards structure and multisig would make the market both decentralized and centralized in one, the decentralization coming from the use of a rewards scheme that relies on both participation of the admins/users and multisig, and the centralized aspect coming from the market being hosted itself on servers.

Currency Application

This market would make use of currencies that are actually "worthwhile". No instamined, premined, PoS, or Bitcoin-derived/forked currencies will be used, as they all present various security risks and I'm not a fan of bitcoin clonecoins. Thus, this market would utilize Monero and Bitcoin only. Monero uses cryptonote, the most fungible anonymity scheme implementation possible, along with having a surprisingly good development team, and a road paved for success. Bitcoin would act as a hedge on the market, should users choose to switch between the currencies( Such as BTC->XMR to cash out etc).

Pros of a Hybrid Decentralized/Centralized market over a fully decentralized market

I love decentralization, but there are things that decentralized simply makes worse, such as a decentralized darknetmarket. For example: If the LE decides to come after/attempt to take down a decentralized market, they are going to go after not the admins, but all the users themselves. With a centralized market, the admins are the ones that have to look behind their back constantly, while the users are free to enjoy themselves. With a decentralized market, everyone on there is at risk of being tracked by LE, since they all are equal participants in the criminal enterprise, as you would be required to download the node hosting all the markets information to even use the decentralized market.

With the mysterious arrival of Bytecoin in March 2014, it uncovered how crypto-currencies are being used in the deepnet, hidden from the public view. The shock of the “hidden crypto” stirred a lot of reactions and interest from users. Originally, Bytecoin was launched in early 2012, by unknown developers.

I mean, do people still believe this crap?

Anyone thought of Monero being used on the "darknetmarkets" on like reddit.com/darknetmarkets and those TOR sites?

It's only a matter of time in my opinion. The fungibility/privacy complaints of BTC are a frequent topic in that community, and Monero is getting more talk time as a viable alternative/supplement/hedge.

There were a couple of TOR markets that utilized DRK+BTC before the Dash switch. Not sure if that's still a thing or not.

Shadow Market (SDC) should be out in beta soon. For best anon, one could swap SDC-XMR-BTC for added tumbling.

Any way Zero Net could implement Monero in a P2P market?

Nobody here believes this crap.

The story will likely change with the size and color of the bag.

With a line like that, the XMR bag is small and the BCN/other CN coin/other CN competitive coin bag is big.

I think the only language spoken is a reasonably silent one, defined more by actions than words, which include increasing the size of the right colored bag.

You can't. Those are paid PR services, they'll run whatever you pay for. Most if not all cryptocoin "news" sites are like that.

The best you can do is to try to educate people not trust those sources, and indeed to actively distrust anything you see promoted/mentioned there.

Decentralized darknetmarkets like what Shadowcash hopes to build will never be a thing imo. The guy in that reddit post detailed it pretty well. With a decentralized darknetmarket, law enforcement is going to go after everyone who uses it since you must download the node with the full market info to even use the decentralized darknetmarket(making you, or a regular harmless buyer on equal footing with a huge vendor selling weapons for ex) , with a centralized market, the main people that law enforcement tries to catch are the owners/admins of the site, while relatively leaving the small regular users alone.

Plus, besides that, there's also the issue of there being no regulation. The reason authorities havent been "too hard" on these markets is probably because all of them have restricted the sale of real obscene, disgusting things like child porn. With a decentralized darknetmarket, stuff like child porn will be impossible to ban or restrict.

The market dash was used on turned out be a sort of scam, the owner was doxed and the market's clearnet ip was revealed.

Also, quite frankly, there is no anonymous altcoin besides Monero that is reputable. Shadowcash had a mere 14 day PoW period, then was switched to PoS. Dash had a 2million coin instamine. And the rest are unnoteworthly. Monero had all it's early coins redistributed from those who mined early on, making Monero the only anon coin with a relatively fair/good distribution.

Thus, I would not take my chances in buying into any other coin to use/switch.

Shapeshift has evidently implemented mixin of 3 when someone buys XMR with BTC or another crypto.

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that the team actually had a little time and was able to make the mixin 3 changes you requested. Please feel free to get the word out! Have a good day Smiley

Our efforts to persuade them to do so have paid off.
Kudos to them and to those who also communicated with Shapeshift (Ginger Ale, et al).  Cool

Thanks to everyone who communicated this to them!

With a decentralized darknetmarket, stuff like child porn will be impossible to ba or restrict.

An absence of centralized or hierarchical (government) regulation does not implicate a lack of regulation altogether. Cultural and societal norms are present anywhere humans gather. They naturally begin to self-regulate themselves. In systems theory, these are known as autopoietic/sympoetic systems. Immoral obscenities like CP are preemptively taboo and can be blocked through various means. Some markets have taken this approach regarding weapons, carding fraud, etc.

It's definitely a philosophical and ethical balance, to on one hand encourage free market capitalism and on the other hand insist on controlling it. Anarcho-politics inevitably run into these issues as there is always an inherent control bias in any social relationship.

I suppose Monero will be more popular when privacy for the sake of liberty and individual autonomy becomes an issue to the EveryMan. In the mean time, convenience and sheer habit reigns supreme in the house of Big Brother - although the tide appears to be gradually changing. Whether Monero, SDC, or _____coin takes the lead in the new markets is anyone's guess. I just enjoy the financial hypotheticals. Although I would agree with you that XMR's distribution looks to be the most fair.

Not sure you read his post carefully.  Say monero goes to $25.  Is $250 worth the risk to recover 534x$25?  That's a question for you to answer.  But how much does it cost to put the broken hard drive on a shelf until monero is worth $.00003 or $25.00?
ATM, Monero is around 30 50 cents. Spend 260 dollars and you get your moneroj back, in a way. If later on, one monero is worth 250 dollars, so much the better, but right now, it is not.

It would be like saying that the 10 000 BTC pizza guy lost millions. Crap, he did not lose a thing if he bought back (and I am pretty certain he did, at least partially).

Edited that for you. I agree with you btw, you could also just store it somewhere safe at home and try to recover it when Monero is worth a lot more. However, the mental impact of a non-recoverable disk will be greater when Monero is worth a lot than now.

A reason to recover it now versus later is that the parts needed to recover it might not be available at a later date, depending on what is wrong with it. Sometimes these drives need circuit boards or chips that almost exactly match the drive. At least, that is true with magnetic drives. I'm not sure if it's as relevant with SSD drives.

Hi, I am new to Monero, but where can I download the wallet for Mac?
It seems Monero itself is complicated?

P.S: I am not a technical guy

The download elections is here:  http://getmonero.org/downloads/

I would suggest to start with mymonero.com  webwallet.

The mymonero.com  web wallet is great and if you are not mining then you don't need an other wallet.
mymonero.com  web wallet is not working on my tablet with Windows-RT.

you could also try MoneroX
http://getmonero.org/getting-started/choose

maybe that'll work on RT because its built on .net ?

though my many gigs ram those RT tablets got? But they are SSD, right? in-ram blockchain could be fine for yah.

I don't think that would work: http://superuser.com/questions/640097/mono-for-winrt-desktop

So fluffypony and I decided to open up the missive transcriptions prior to publishing the audio on the website, that way the transcription and audio can be published simultaneously.

Contact me via pm or gingeropolous@gmail.com or IRC or whatever and I'll get you a link to the audio so you can transcribe.

And yes, you could totally view this as "early access" to missive updates.

The current missive, fittingly, is about collaboration and is 17:46 long.

And if you want, we can put "transcribed by community member XYZ" on the transcription post.

AEON (an experimental Monero fork) is a long way from actually being a usable solution on a mobile phone, although the focus of the project is to develop technologies that make that practical and efficient in the future.

Both Monero and AEON have been tested on Raspberry Pi 2 (ARM cpu similar to that used on some smart phones, limited RAM, etc.), but the performance is not yet usable, and that doesn't address the issue of a mobile UI at all. Eventually I expect that to all happen though.
