Bitcoin was a few years before others.
Most competitors of MRO were all born +/- a few days.

and what did the bring with them? Only boolberry seems to have innovation.

boolberry is less user friendly than MRO for example.
Innovation OK but that's not all !

cheers

DISCLOSURE: I am a linux guy

I really enjoy the client though. Sure, its not sexy but its pretty easy to build on *nix (which I love) and the damn thing works pretty good.

For not being a btc clone I think the client is very solid.

This post sums up why all this bullshit is a scam

In this days and age maketing is more than 50% of success, don't forget that please. I am all for the most technically advanced coin with the best team behind it to win the race, but we all know how real life works. Besides competitors have the inflation advantage.

I know what you mean. Marketing hasnt really started for monero. Indeed a nice GUI is needed in order to start spread the news. Right now the most important thing is to make this coin a solid coin and develop more things about it. Fix bugs and make it more stable. It is already an order of magnitude better in terms of anonymity from other coins and i guess those that really need anonymity know what to choose whatever the marketing of other coins is.

Most people think this as well. Even if you don't build it yourself its simple to run and then its a few commands.

I still fail to get what people want to do with a gui wallet that can't be done on cli.

Why the heck is MRO cheaper than DRK?

Too many coins get produced per day to sustain a high price. Until the market interest is higher I don't see the down trend stopping.

Right, at 0.003 about 70 BTC/day is required to absorb new coins...
And that is not gonna happen even with a basic GUI wallet...
I can see 0.001 for a few weeks as momentum builds.

It's hilarious reading the last 2 pages about the wallet...
The BTC wallet is ridiculously outdated and something only an ultra-geek could love...
"The masses" have not even adopted Bitcoin... it's so klunky, geez.

Will the GUI wallet be open source? Won't competitors just copy it? Smiley

Competitors might copy it as they copy anything else. But that doesnt mean anything. Why would anyone choose competitors that only copy MRO? They will always lag in updating and copying stuff from MRO and will probably have nothing new to offer. If they have something better MRO can also copy it. Right now most development on CN coins is being done for MRO...

But competitors could have low difficulty and attract more miners. MRO diff will be always high.

I strongly disagree. After monero every new coin that gets out has a difficulty of a few millions after an hour. Now everyone knows how to mine CN coins and set up a new VM to mine at start.

And anyway what that means? If it has low difficulty then it means miners can dump whenever the feel like and there is no need to hold...Just grabbing a few btc...

In the end i cannot understand why you guys fear copy coins? All cryptos are speculative but copy coins are just that with 0 new tech promises. There is no reason for monero to fear copy coins. They will just pump a bit and then dump. Now if a new coin comes out with more innovation and good dev well i will also mine it and buy it and support it. Until then who cares about clones?

I sent some Monero to my wallet yesterday before hearing about needing to update my wallet, the Monero still haven't arrived. Should I be worried? will updating my wallet fix this and have them show up?

i am not in the irc chat - is there something fundamentally broken or other fud? or is this just market madness?

There is FUD at the moment going on about Bytecoin, that CryptoNote based coins have a backdoor.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=512747.msg7018325#msg7018325

Personally I think this is a load of rubbish, many people here have read the entire codebase [1] of Monero (that is mostly the original CryptoNote implementation) and there seems to be no evidence of these special keys.

[1] I am sure I heard that some of the Monero developers have been over the code. I wouldn't mind this being confirmed again. Smiley

According to IRC you'll have to wait for it to kick out of the mempool or be mined by miners on the old code, there's literally nothing you can do but wait.

Yeah - we haven't noticed anything even close to a remote kill switch, and I don't see that being practically possible.

Even if it WERE practically possible, someone would just fork it and remove the relevant bits from the code to make sure they don't lose their money. I'm guessing this is just a play for legitimacy to try and cover up the 82% premine.

There's an apparent trusted pubkeyhash in the config, it belongs to the CN/BCN people but we can remove it easily.

Code:
#define P2P_STAT_TRUSTED_PUB_KEY                        "8f80f9a5a434a9f1510d13336228debfee9c918ce505efe225d8c94d045fa115"

It looks like it's just used to show the trustworthiness of a node in net_node.inl, but I haven't looked into it extensively.

I have the similar problem, sent few monero with new wallet to https://cryptonote.exchange.to/ , still haven't arrived, after over one hour, but yesterday with same wallet version everything went smooth. Maybe it is due to exchange? Luckily it is just a few monero, but hope it will show up  Grin

those this coin have halving schedule?

The amount of coins per block goes down every block. ~80% of coins are issued in 4 years.

hello

i have been mining to a wallet using bitmonerod. following is how I initiated using a bat file. this is on an i3.

old bat file: cd C:\Users\billing\Desktop\monero
                bitmonerod.exe --start-mining  425PDBdQyXuHRypExn9HKYj83vEkPFewG7Ez1m7n1GkAQcZFaSUETsZWYLVQTwNDssC2Nn7z2PeAwE8 AWAGbNeq9HVeSYWo --mining-thread 3
new bat:    bitmonerod.exe --start-mining 425PDBdQyXuHRypExn9HKYj83vEkPFewG7Ez1m7n1GkAQcZFaSUETsZWYLVQTwNDssC2Nn7z2PeAwE8 AWAGbNeq9HVeSYWo --mining-thread 3

it starts ok and mines. I get no errors, but I noticed that i have an extra space after the word mining. is this a problem. did I potentially lose some coins to the ether.  above is the old bat file, and what I just changed to. thanks for the input
