Hi all!

I have some questions...

First of all its my first "fresh born coin" so i am a bit helpless with the setup commands.

I compiled the mon src without errors on my machine and edited the monocle.conf.
In there is my username, passwd, rpcport 6888 and i added the three nodes...

monocled getinfo showes actual block but how do i check the account balance?

Since im using my own p2pool server i have not setup the proxie.

Both of my rigs are pointed to my p2pool server on port 9171:
-o my_local_ip:9171 -u vertcoinaddress -p monocleaddress

no mon-coins so far...
but shares from vtc coming in.
am i solo mining monocle?
did i missed something?

Has HashHarder mined any Vertcoin yet? I see nothing listed under Scheduled Payments on their site.

Seems I fixed the payout script issue on vtcpool.co.uk - a payout just went out of the first MON.

2014-05-02 21:00:32.767705 Completed mon transaction aced61914f49f68b54bed6fa2c9fc1cd50fe6aa0bc1280bfbd328f0c3cd01d32:

Am about to put block explorer online now, forgot about that....

Hi Boris

I just hit into the payout issue too.  The error log is below.  Did you face similar problem?

2014-05-03 04:39:34.049625 Fetching shares from database...

I will have to restart the services on and off while fixing the payout issue.  So guys, please bear with me.

We are now back in business!  The error is fixed.  It seems the payout program is not too happy with long and complicated rpc passwords.  It's ok. We can do with simpler passwords.

And guess what?  This is the 101th errors I overcame while setting up Monocle merged mining.  Lots of sweat and blood!  Let's journey on ...

Has HashHarder mined any Vertcoin yet? I see nothing listed under Scheduled Payments on their site.

I switched back to my regular pool. I'm seeing rigs with less hash rate than me with about 30-50k more share rate and I know I started before them. Haven't seen anything yet, and with the difficulty low, the global net hash rate is this high already, haven't seen anything yet? I make more vert in this amount of time

Try getbalance ""

You will find you have unconfirmed coins, so you can't payout just yet.

My pool has been kicking out VTC pretty regularly - but maybe the Mon P2Pool has a huge delay?  I assume that the local wallet is only for found blocks, not the actual shares that are being 'mined' on the p2pool network.

ive been mining on the proxypool and I seem to be getting more mon than vtc. is this normal? I figured it should be the other way around given the relative low difficulty of mon right now compared to vtc

Best to get the source from github. But for the linux binaries: it's compressed with 7zip, you need 7z to unzip it.
Code:
apt-get install p7zip-full

Well you have to take into consideration: Network Hash & Block Rewards

I think MON is 25 every 2 min avg and VTC is 50 every 2.5 min avg. VTC most likely has much more hash.

The payment system uses a variant of Pay-Per-Share, which involves storing a value for every single valid share whether the node finds blocks or not. The difference with this system compared to normal pps is that it will not pay out more than it earns (unlike some pps pools where users can get credited more coins than the pool actually has, one of the reasons pps pools have so high fees). Since you're effectively solomining on a network that currently has ~515Mhash you will not find blocks very often unless you have a very high hashrate. But it will still save all your shares for when the pool is lucky, because at those points it can pay more. This means that you haven't really earned those shares, they're just an indication of what you could be paid if the pool was super lucky (e.g was always finding blocks at the expected time or faster). You can read more at http://eligius.st/~gateway/faq/capped-pps-recent-backpay

Also, there are two settings in sharelogger.conf "minbalance" and "mon_min_tx", their default values are 1.0, this means that to pay you anything (assuming you are the only miner and 0% fees) the pool would need a balance of 2 MON. You can reduce these but keep in mind that there are no free transactions with monocle and the minimum fee is 0.01. This idea is to get people used to higher fees, which are needed later on to provide enough incentive for miners to actually mine the coin once the block reward goes to 0.

That being said, you might have immature blocks, use "listtransactions" or "listaccounts" to see the immature blocks or see the total balance.

It should be WknYbiAWZ4EA66ggUhSaj3HE7cee

But you can get unpassworded wallets from github (linked in the OP)

Interesting - I thought by setting up the pool with 'merge' set I would effectively be mining both vtc and mon with everyone else in the network?  I am still getting quite a bit of VTC, but yeah... sucks if the same doesn't hold for Mon.

Something is not right for me with VTC payouts. Will merge mining work if I still have -a VTC_ADDRESS in my p2pool command?

I've tried to explain this on a few occasions in this thread, but it keeps getting buried in the noise. Tongue No, while merge mining on p2pool all "merge mined" coins, e.g. monocle in this case (but you can mine several other coins at the same time with p2pool I belive) are solomined because there is no distributed share chain for the merged coin (only for vtc). Also if you're mining on your own private node you don't need proxypool, you can mine just fine on the p2pool node.

Edit: And liked I've said those other times, this just a temporary solution to provide some kind of pooled mining while a solution with a distributed sharechain (and normal pools coming online) are sorted (might be a few weeks yet until the sharechain stuff is up, unless someone gets an epiphany and implements it).
