You can connect it to anything, not just Pi. Or use one Pi for multiple miners (not sure what's the limit though, Pi has some issues with too many USB devices). I was able to compile cgminer 4.4 and use it on a regular Linux box that I use with other miners (Zeus etc) but eventually switched back to Pi when I was done experimenting. - Such Moon Just seems like a such a waste, two machines per 1 Pi that costs $40 at best. Then if it breaks, you lose two machines and besides, who wants to spend additional for spares? IF one Pi could run 4-6 machines it would be nice; a dozen would be overkill because of the connection would suffer self-throttling. I don't get why a miner that's using last week's technology (40Nm) is charging this week's technology's (20Nm) price, especially when most miners now are 28Nm chips. This company could steal a lot of business from Bitmain if prices were competitive. I might try a pair out at the end of the month if Bitmain doesn't re-open sales by then. Waste as opposed to what, each AntMiner having its own built-in controller? Each approach has its merits, I prefer it to be as modular as possible if the price is right, since I have a bunch of hardware (PSUs, raspberries, etc) laying around. Others may prefer self-contained plug-and-play boxes. As for spares, at least it's a possibility with a modular approach, what happens if a built-in part breaks in a "black box"? Two weeks offline for RMA if you're lucky to have warranty. But to be fair controller is probably the least likely part to break, so I don't think it's an issue for either one of them. I bet the prices will change when Bitmain starts selling. Yeah, I do like the built in controller, less wires, less hassle and they aren't a regular breakage, no need to install any software either. I also like modularity but I don't find the rPi, a memory card, USB wires, an adaptor to power the rPi and now that I know, PCE-I extenders to be very modulary. The PSU adds to it also but that's with any miner... except USB lol I've only had one ECB (Control Board) break, ever and was about US$50 to replace; now I keep a spare just in case because I did lose a week (~$50 then) This part rarely breaks/fails and takes about 5 minutes to swap out with the right tools (2 pairs of needlenose pliers and a tongue depressor - to help pry the board off) If you have a spare, your downtime is minimal and no need for an RMA whatsoever either. I'd never send anything back to China, I'd write it off it as a loss and use it for parts I'm a pretty handy DIY nerd kinda guy so maybe it could be a pain for someone without the right skill set to perform an ECB change. You can also take the casing apart from the S3, just take off the screws and do what you need to do. -- If the R3 was a 28Nm chip, then the price would make more sense and would be more comfortable giving a BTC0.9900 valuation per unit. Right now, the best price for an R3 should be no more than BTC0.80 per machine; I sure won't pay more than that. At that price, you'd likely sell a lot more or at least you'd attract a lot more attention your way. Many people are brand loyal... until a bigger better deal comes along.

If any of you can reference a solid guide to building cgminer on raspbian/debian/ubuntu so some of us can avoid rockweb that would be amazing.
My rockminer too does not seem to pass 14hrs, I would just rather run it on my other RPI and add a seperate screen for the Rock miners so I can monitor the HW better and use frequencies in between
Question
With GPU and smaller asic it is easier to create a rule of thumb for measuring HW error. In the case where NO HW is impossible, how can we do this with the rockminer? 2 HW per second? 5 per second? 10 per second?
If the poolside hashrate is showing 500gh/s+ and you are having ~3% rejection rate but 15 HW error per second vs poolside showing 490gh/s+ ~3% rejection and 10 HW per second..
How can we determine what the acceptable amount of HW is?

I've got a Rk-Box, and I wanted to make sure I have done all the tricks. I have never gotten it below 10% error rates. It seems other people have higher hash rates than I do, and that's kinda frustrating. I've used rockminer's cgminer and tried their raspberry pi image, changed around frequencies, and I even replaced their USB hub with my own (no difference). Here's what I get:
300M Freq: 456 Gh/s, 11-12% error for ~405 Gh/s poolside 320M Freq: 478 Gh/s, 17-20% error for ~395 Gh/s poolside 350M Freq: 475 Gh/s, ~14% error for ~405 Gh/s poolside
I've played with it for a week now, and haven't gotten better. Anybody with better specs have any additional tricks? Or did I just get a poorly performing box?
What Firmware are you running? If you are on the most recent, you should be seeing less than 5% rejects and ~475 Gh/s avg. My RK-Box R-Pi seems to be rebooting daily as well. The timer was up to about 16 hours last night...back down to 5+ hours this morning Well ive been running mine for about 14hrs and I worked out hardware rate to be around 16%. Formula I used was 100 x HW /Accepted shares. It seems to be averaging 460 - 480GHs with the 320 setting. How do I check which firmware the RK box is. Ive got it connected directly to pc and not using a pi at all. Any help would be appreciated.

My Rockminer web GUI is reporting 479 Gh/s avg. but the pool side avg. is down around ~450 Gh/s @ FREQ 320 and current fw, running on R-Pi

I am going to break 24hours using RPI with Raspbian. I'd rather have a cgminer running constant than Rock WebUI restarting constantly Hopefully they can update the OS and stabilize it. People would appreciate it greatly.

I read on one of the threads here that a formula for working out the HW percentage was 100 x HW errors divided by accepted shares. Not sure if its the best formula, but it comes out around about what others are getting. I wish I knew how to access the Webpage for it, putting 192.168.1.254 doesn't seem to work.

Actually have set mine to 300MHz. I'm not sure if the 10~20gh/s I'm gaining on 320MHz is worth the HW errors. I'm <2% as of a few hours uptime.
I've been trying to use RPI/Raspbian/Cgminer to run the rockminer.
One SD card just gives me the errors mentioned above, the other SD card only happens to one of the blades ever so often

I'd rather have one blade hang up and restart in cgminer then the complete OS restart at this point.. When I have some time I'm going to test on a spare computer with Linux on a harddrive / usbdrive to see if it's just the RPI or SD card thats giving me issues.

I just tried that --hotplug 30 in the command line, but cgminer didn't even open up. I might try the 300Mhz freq as well, see how it goes.

My RK-Box miner made it up to about 35 hours but my Rockweb/R-Pi seems to have rebooted about 30 mins ago
