I went to go buy 4 rocket boxes today but the 450 dollar shipping on them turned me away That's ridiculous. They are eitHer taking a profit or paying retail. My FedEx acct would be $25-30 per. Really you can ship 7kg from China to USA for $30 usd ? Nice! But how long does it take though? I can ship for $6 per kg UPS but it takes 7 days. The fastest service is more expensive but it only 2-3 days. Express International is usually 3-4 days. Quicker from Europe, but this is China. As RockMiner develops further, maybe they can give multiple shipping carrier/options. then you can pick whatever shipping speed/method you want and pay accordingly. At the moment, however, it's DHL express, which is super fast.

Pi is not required: PC is also OK.
Most people already have PSUs they can re-purpose... so maybe 2 calcualtions should exist for rkboxes? one if etting a PSU, one if not? its not about shipping cost or anything u mentioned above... lets calculate the real cost here... 1 x RK-Box 450G = 1BTC (latest price)
assume we buy 3 RK-box (3BTC + 0.6BTC shipping) now we need 3 RPI assume it 0.23BTC and the last thing, we need 3 PSU assume it 0.47BTC total : 4.3BTC now we got 1.35 TH/s cost us around 4.3BTC so, for this spec. 1BTC can get us 313GH/s (1350/4.3)
now we calculate the Antminer S2 1 x S2 1TH/s = 3.194 BTC (coupon)
for this S2, we dont need other accessories to run it its all included so, for this spec. 1BTC can get us 310GH/s (1000/3.225)
Conclusion : RK-box - for mid player in mining, if ur wallet is not big enuf S2 - only for big wallet

I've got coin waiting for one of you US sellers to get a shipment... (cough...Canary..) I too am waiting for Canary to post a price and hopefully it's more competitive than minersource.net ( although they are a good reseller ). The price on the rbox dropped dramatically since launch and hopefully we will see the price of the rkbox come down as well. To stay competitive with the market the price needs to drop a lil since power supply is not included and the rpi may need to be purchased as others have stated. At least close to what Rockminer sells them for + a lil for shipping cost. Hopefully this next week goes fast, don't want to resort to buying from the manufacturer. What would you use these for? Combine a couple and mine at a pool or point one for solo mining? Is it a waste for solo or should I use the rbox for solo? Your thoughts....
all resellers are waiting for inventory... so sit tight, when we get our tracking numbers hopefully on 25th, you all will know ASAP

I personally wouldn't try solo mining unless I had at least 10 Th/s but that is just my BTC0.00003552 I have just under that but you need more like 10 Ph/s in opinion.

now we calculate the Antminer S2 1 x S2 1TH/s = 3.194 BTC (coupon)
for this S2, we dont need other accessories to run it its all included so, for this spec. 1BTC can get us 310GH/s (1000/3.225)
Conclusion : RK-box - for mid player in mining, if ur wallet is not big enuf S2 - only for big wallet your math is not correct. for lots of us. A) rasp pi don't need it why I have a pc that has my mining covered cost = 0 B) psu's hmm at least 5 off line psu's maybe 6 some are 1300 watt golds and some are 1000 watt plat's cost = 0 c) 3 rk-boxes = 3 btc or just under 1800 usd hash at 1350 gh so spend 1800 usd and get 1350 hash vs spend 2200 and get 1th many miners are mulling exactly the above and not your figures. GRANTED SOME MAY BE DOING YOUR IDEA of the costbut i know many are doing what I just printed. I also like that an entire rk box dies I still have 900th of hash. my s-2 dies I have 0 hash. I may buy 1 rk box per week and spread my cost out slowing increasing the hash . depends on how they run. THEY MUST RUN AS GOOD AS AN S-1 I figure S-1's are better then 95% good closer to 97-98% . if the rk-box is that reliable it will sell like mad.

Most of your math is good Philipma, but doesn't look like it factored in the $450 shipping that someone said it costs to ship the 4 minimum units required. If this is indeed true, not as good a deal as we anticipated.

Website says "raspberry pi and it's power supply for every 2 units"
so, do you need just one rasp pi for every two units or you need two (one for each RK-box)? If you need two, then how many are included if you order 2 RK-boxes? One or two?
Could you explain, please?
Besides, price of BTC went up, but price IN BTC did not change-what gives? used to be 0.9 BTC when BTC was 650=$585, now 1.05 BTC when BTC is 592 (up from 540)=$622. This pricing fluctuation looks completely random. Why don't you set up the price in $$ and then BTC will be calculated by bitpay.

well I AM still going wait a bit to buy it.
Also not sure if I want to go more for scrypt.
I have 5 gridseed baldes in house they run pretty easy.
A gridseed blade cost about as much as 1 rk-box .
It looks like I have about 4 or 5 good choices of what to buy. It looks like I have 4 or 5 good sellers to buy from.
Canary crazy bobsag3 zoomhash pcfli
all have good shit with decent prices. I can get some solid hash deals from any of them.

My R-Box is "dying" after running a day or two. This has happened at least 3 times the first week I've owned it. I'm running with 2 Antminers U2's as well with the following command line
bfgminer.exe -S rockminer:all --set rockminer:clock=270 -S antminer:all --set-device antminer:clock=x0A81 -o <pool URL> -u <username> -p <password>
And it doesn't seem what frequency I run at, this is about all I can get. I've tried freq=270, 280, and 290. Running at lower frequency doesn't seem to help the stability. Am I doing anything wrong or is this typical?

Usually (but not always) issues similar to this are power supply related. Your current power supply has enough Watts and amps/rail to suppply the entire load with some extra left over for power spikes/surges?

I think this can happen when pools aren't completely stable. I've put some improvements in git to try to handle it better, and hopefully recover no matter what stops it.

Thanks for the fast replies.
I bought my R-Box from Canary along with the power supply, so I assume it is adequate.
IF the cause is an unstable pool, I am wondering why that problem doesn't happen to my Antminer U2's? I should have been more specific, that there are 3 devices (R-Box and 2 U2's) but the only one that dies is the R-box.
