Thanks for the fast replies.

I bought my R-Box from Canary along with the power supply, so I assume it is adequate.

IF the cause is an unstable pool, I am wondering why that problem doesn't happen to my Antminer U2's? I should have been more specific, that there are 3 devices (R-Box and 2 U2's) but the only one that dies is the R-box.

It was a driver-specific bug when it is starved for work (which happens when the pools are unstable).

BTW, if anyone else wants to implement ROCKMINER support, here are my notes from reverse engineering the protocol:

Code:

Device->Host:
	32-bit nonce
	4-bit status
	4-bit command
		0 = nonce found
		1 = Task complete
		2 = Get task
	2-bit product id
		0 = R-Box (4 chips, freq 200-270-290)
	6-bit chip id
	8-bit task id
	8-bit temperature

Host->Device:
	256-bit midstate
	128-bit unused/zero
	8-bit 0xaa
	8-bit (MHz / 10) - 1
	8-bit chip id
	8-bit 0x55
	96-bit datatail

I have kept my six on btcguild   they are rock solid at 192gh total.
I have a temp psu issue and dropped but since I have used the pcie adapter cables from cablez perfect numbers.

  right now I have 1 dragon miner hosted 6 r-boxes and 3 ant s-1's   all gear runs close to perfect.  biggest problem is 1.62 th is not much gear these days

My R-Box would die at times (usually when I was farthest away from it!), but I got Multiminer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=248173.0) and it's been running great since (I haven't checked the logs to see if it needed to be restarted at all, though).  Multiminer runs on top of bfgminer and monitors it's performance and behavior.  There are even apps for your phone to allow you to monitor and even restart the miners if you need to.  I'm also running 10 U1/U2s and they are behaving themselves better as well.  I'm currently mining UNO on miningpool.co

All I am saying is you need to compare retail prices, not one with a coupon vs retail price.

yappp thats true, but for now i / we have the privilege for it
so for now we dont have to compare retail prices
if i dont have the coupons anymore or expired (till 21 this month only), then this RK-box is definitely the best buy in the CRYPTOWORLD

Why are people who already own S1 units buying R-BOXs?

They seem like great little units (I ordered one, and it will be my first real miner!), and they run at low power, but based on the calculations I've done, they seem to be nowhere near the bang for the buck or ROI of an S1.

Just curious why you big/bigger-hitters are buying em as well.

S1 units are not being sold "new" from what I can tell and these R-Box units allow for adding more hash-rate at a decent price.

No, BFGMiner has a standard interface for all drivers. So something like:

bfgminer -S rockminer:all --set rockminer:clock=290

Edit: Also note that if you were using cgminer, you had to use Zadig, which breaks the official drivers. You will need to undo this (and restore the original driver) before BFGMiner will work.

it's the same driver used for the USB type miners (U1, block eruptors etc)
CP210x, trying to find the link. Someone should make a driver thread with a list/links of all drivers needed for mining gears. would be useful!
