OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay

More than 9 months passed and OpenBazaar is still in beta phase. I'm really excited that a decentralized, trust-less marketplace is coming. That would be a possibly game-changer move for Bitcoin.

When is it actually going to be released. This is one of the things I'm most excited about as well as decentralized exchanges. I think a decentralized ebay/silk road market could be a huge game changer and milestone in bitcoin history.

Not sure if there is an official release date but agreed, this will be a game changer with regards to decentralized marketplaces.

Um, how exactly are they going to make money from this? From what I understand it's going to be open source and no fees since it's decentralized. I think these sorts of markets are more political statement than profit making businesses.

How does a government shutdown an open source project? Have the combined efforts of the most powerful governments been able to shutdown decentralized organizations like :

I will personally be setting up shop with the express purpose of selling as many legal items as possible under OpenBazaar when it comes out of the Beta we are testing. I will make sure that many some of these legal products support charities and non profits. Any attack on OpenBazaar will be attacking donation streams going to legitimate charities. OpenBazaar will become understood as a neutral marketplace and repercussions will occur if anyone attacks it.

You don't get it do you? This is a decentralized open source project. Unlike the silk road the developers aren't making profits from it, aren't marketing it as a drug site,  and don't control it. Your naive statements are akin to suggesting Bitcoin can be shutdown if everyone in the bitcoin foundation is arrested.

I said you be targeted and watched and this site will get alot of bad attention also, cause a site that might have drugs or illegal CC hacking, you think people that are honest are going to want to visit a site like that?  give me a break.

Open bazaar devs barely get any donations for their effort and their wallet is controlled by multiple devs so one persona cannot pilfer the few BTC in their. Any donations given to them is paying for work already done and this is more an act of love and ideologically motivated.

Their will indeed be child porn , terrorists funding, hits for hire, ect on Open bazaar. Just like TOR this is a fair tradeoff to make because the importance of this project succeeds any nefarious uses for this design.

I have objection to it because there are many people that are already objecting it.  Thanks to this site, bitcoin will get more bad rep.  why dont you do your charity stuff now? Lol. Are you trolling? They couldn't take your bitcoins as this is the whole point of decentralized exchanges. And the owner can't be arrested because they've done nothing wrong. Creating a free and open market isn't illegal, but what people choose to sell or buy on there might be.

Agreed inBitwetrust. Combined efforts have done nothing to stop torrrents, in fact p2p filesharing flourishes. This market concept can have nothing but a positive effect overall. Sure some people will sell things that are illegal in certain jurisdictions. It is a game of whack-a-mole however, as soon as one site is removed new technologies and sites replace it. You can't arrest or put people in jail when no crime has been committed or even before one has. They don't have some sort of Minority Report Pre-Crime Internet Unit. They'll just have to learn to deal with it when it comes and go after the individual dealers which is what will happen.
