this bazaar? open?
No. It's still in development. Is ducky an alt of notlambchop? The FBI will see this as a threat. ------ Just got a call back and hes glad I reported it. Good news for us who worry about security.

And unfortunately that's why the NSA sees fit to spy on everyones communications under those platforms because the excuse they use is trying to stop 'terrorism' but what it's really about is just controlling the populace.

How did Bin Laden manage to hide from the US for so long? Let's try not to derail the thread with your wacko terrorist fantasies I'm looking forward to using OpenBazaar in a completely legitimate way.

Committing crimes is illegal, but writing books telling how to be a criminal is not. Closing down these sites is the job of thought police.

Valid point, such discussion is normally protected under freedom of speech laws. Although it is sad such freedoms are eroding, and certain members of the population seem to think this is a good thing. All in the name of "security".

So here it is, $1M funding for the platform! https://www.usv.com/post/5579998c8711930003901f5f/introducing-ob1https://blog.openbazaar.org/openbazaar-is-entering-a-new-phase-with-funding/The OpenBazaar core team is excited to announce that we’ve received $1 million in seed funding from Union Square Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and angel investor William Mougayar to develop the OpenBazaar protocol and client, and build the first business on top of the OpenBazaar network.
The OpenBazaar project was launched in April 2014 and received vocal support from the bitcoin community, who share our vision for a free and decentralized ecommerce platform using bitcoin. OpenBazaar is ambitiously combining several technologies including peer-to-peer networking, Ricardian contracts, decentralized reputation, and multisignature escrow for bitcoin payments. Despite our best efforts as part-time volunteers, progress was slow. The project needed the core contributors to make development a full-time effort in order to release a robust application within a reasonable time-frame. Can't wait to see the outcome of this funding!

Hmm... interesting how they've got funding for this because how do they plan to make money off of OB as I thought it was going to be a free marketplace... or do they plan to show adverts etc? Not that I'm against monetizing it but I thought it was going to be fully decentralized and open source so any one could use it or set up their own markets.

It remains a free market place they plan to run a business on top of it offering services like 3rd party settlement. This is really great news btw i was shocked at the time. Maybe this will snowball other investment, the sky is the limit.

Imagine back in the day RedHat getting funding for Linux or Netscape getting funding for http. OpenBazaar did not get the funding but a company that will be using the OpenBazaar protocol. Made up mainly of the developers of the protocol, so they will be able to best tailor the protocol to their business requirements.

They must charge fees, or they will get spammed. You know the drill.
From this blog post: OpenBazaar will always be open source and MIT licensed. As a global software community, we’ve intentionally created OpenBazaar so that there are no fees required to use the network, and there is no central authority controlling trade, taking a cut, or monitoring data. http://avc.com/2015/06/future-friday-openbazaar-and-ob1/

Does anyone know how the escrow function will work? That could be the trickiest part or weak link in the system.
