Ebay is worldwide but openbazaar? Does it work in Europe?
openbazar is decentalized, unless you have no internet anyone can have it, you need only to install a client, the same as you run bitcoin core

Ebay isn't open to anyone to sell from anywhere in the world, pretty sure of that. Most people use paypal, you need bank account for paypal. Exactly this, openbazaar will actually be open to the more people than sh*ty eBay since you won't be limited with PayPal, bank accounts and eBay politics on where they will and where they will not be doing business. It will also be much, much cheaper to use than eBay. I can't wait that they finish it though.

It might be cheaper and even better, but without the numbers or userbase it wont be much good. It's how I look at bitcoin. Obviously its better than fiat but it just doesn't have the userbase or merchant adoption yet.

Without some huge media campaign I think it will take a while to build up a sizeable OB userbase (especially to people outside the btc community), it took Ebay years to get established so I expect OpenBazaar will also face the same challenge.

And that was just a website run by one guy (who apparently was overwhelmed and shut it down).

But OpenBazaar have no fees and no restrictions. It might take years to get a fairly large user base but it has a good incentives for people to use it.

People use ebay for the user base so yeah it should start out a quirky market place but end up looking like ebay with tons more stuff.

He could have just hired more people. Why would you kill a growing business. Cryptothrift is another. Sure people use it but not enough for it to be significant.

Maybe they weren't a growing business but still doing ok yet the owners had even better options to make money. Then you would just sell the business though.

Nah, he just wasn't ready to run a business. The reason I want to let other people take over Bitmit is simply that I prefer to focus on other things in my life. Bitmit has taken too much of my life and I sleep way better when I don't have to take care of thousands of dollars of user funds. This does not mean that I think Bitmit is not secure but it's a big responsibility to manage so much funds of other people. # Visitors
In the last month Bitmit did have 8-10k unique visitors / day.
Country / Territory % Visits United States 39.00% Germany 6.53% United Kingdom 5.90% Canada 4,951% Spain 2.85% Russia 2.16% Netherlands 2.08% France 2.06% https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=41592.msg3660380#msg3660380

openbazaar is awesome but is until now completly broken and is useless. We wait for the new version now but i am sure that and htis version will be broken and will need another 6 months to be stable. You cant lure users in systems like this.

But how did that translate into sales? He should have sold the business or hired people rather than shut it down. Seems silly to kill a bitcoin business. We need more companies not ones packing in just because its hard work. No business is easy but you have to work hard to reap the rewards. Shame.

He tried to sell the business, even had offers for $250k+ but felt it was worth more. Apparently waiting for that $10 million VC investment to make him rich. On that note, does OpenBazaar have an auction feature or is it all just stores with fixed prices? openbazaar is awesome but is until now completly broken and is useless. Considering Openbazaar has not been released yet this makes no sense. At least wait until it's been released before you talk about how useless it is.

He should have just taken the quarter of a million for it. Better than it just lying dormant not doing anything. And I think open OB has been released on some sort of beta I believe.

I did not know that. If it were me I would've sold the majority of it and taken a back seat. There's always been a hunger for this type of market and it was starting to go places.
