The 12-19 firmware is great for the S3 'underperformer' as I call them. The units I have which barely push 440 with normal temps and a 2000w PSU with nothing else on it. Which is the only way I record any 'real' numbers. Changing the voltage in 12-19 does zip for me on the same units where it does have an effect on 10-24. But, the 12-19 seems to manage these units better. Maybe it is something I did in editing frequencies on the 10-24, not sure, but voltage no work for me and I have about the same hash. 10-24 firmware, well it is for everything else. I need an updated 10-24 version to include newer options and cgminer, but adjusting the vcore to the correct setting for the chosen freq does make a big difference and is especially noticeable in the S3+ units and some? S3 with DC2DC... I don't remember but you know what I mean. The 10-24 firmware gives me overall higher, consistent hashrates because I am able to make adjustments to the freq and voltage to find the sweetest spot for that particular unit. I keep them clean, fans running, good power, no bs. I want the firmware to be the same What I would love to see is someone who can look at both 10-24 and 1-9 and give us a hybrid with the good stuff. If anyone needs a unit to test with let me know it is my understanding that the 12/19 firmware is the 10/24 firmware with the fixed reset button.. no other changes were made. the newest one tho is completely rewritten.. it removes the auto voltage part and tweaks some other settings.. its made for those s3s that didnt come with the variable dc chips. this one performs really badly on my s3s.. i get X's and reboots.

This is why its very important to flash to 12/19 or later. Can you ping the unit or find what IP it is at?

Should be able to get away with leaving it at stock. If its not stable, you can try bumping it up by 20. As a reminder, overclocking will void any warranty you may have.

I know this is what we have been told, but it is not true. There are other differences between these firmware versions. I cannot say from looking at the firmware what those differences are, but I can confidently say from trying both on several S3s and S3+ units. If you want I can post numbers I've gathered from each unit running either version. It seems to me they made the change described with voltage and the "one style of hash board" as Dogie mentioned yesterday, but some change was made in 12-19 outside of the reset button.

Transaction fees go to the pools and the pools decide to pay them to the miners. Anything else, including off-chain solutions are stealing and not the way Bitcoin was intended to function. Make the block size set by the pool. Pool = miners and they get the choice.

There is a sticker in front of the unit saying S3+ => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=921010.0They had an issue with the DC/DC converter in the S3 which they kind of fixed with the S3+. Not sure you can see a physical difference on the DC/DC converter with your eyes. Maybe someone can point you out something on the board but i can't. I don't own an S3+.

Strange, the link I posted show a S3+ sticker in front of the unit, i'm pretty sure I have one too at home that show S3. Maybe they removed it from batch to batch ...

Ok sorry, this is what I got Firmware Version Tue Aug 26 10:43:10 CST 2014 Kernel Version 3.10.12 By not working I mean that I plugged it, pointed it to my pool, tarted to mine for like 10 seconds and then started to beep. After that I get no hash at all and the page system->miner status shows no information available

Beeping is more commonly associated with network connection failure, but you seem to have covered that. (though I'd make sure DHCP is enabled on the active connection nevertheless) Try manually starting cgminer via the System -> Startup tab. Click on Stop first then click on Start.

You were right from the beginning, I had DHCP disabled and checked it wrong, noob problems. You have no idea how grateful I am, really you made my day. I thought I had been scammed. Thank you again

While you're at it, update firmware to 20141219, its a critical update. Download is here. Ignore him! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! The only thing you'd need to update with the Aug firmware is cgminer, not the firmware else you run the risk of bricking your rig, even worse, installing dodgy firmware (of which there are loads for the S3 variants)!
