CryptoJohn,

I got into cryptocurrencies about six months ago, and it feels like about a decade.  I've learned a ton since then.

When I first heard about Bitcoin, I shrugged it off.  At the time, I had zero clue about what I was ignoring.  I had the same puzzled look as most people when they hear about cryptocurrencies for the first time... At that time, I could have bought BTC for less than a dollar per coin.  I didn't understand mining, and had zero time to put into learning about any of it.

Then, an acquaintance told me about a Litecoin rig that her son had setup for her.  I suddenly found that I had to find some time for looking into this.

I started out with 1 Antminer U2+ and a USB hub.  Within a month, I had 6 Antminer U2+ sticks plugged into that hub.  Then, a couple months later, purchased a Rockminer.  The Rockminer, still in use, made it possible to get way more coins than I was able to with the Antminers.  After a while, I started trading on exchanges.  In about the last 2-3 months, I started mining Scrypt coins as well as Sha-256 ones.

This time last year, I couldn't compile a wallet.  I have learned to compile wallets, setup remote connections, make changes to conf files as needed, trade coins, etcetera.  To anyone well-versed in crypto, this may seem pretty rudimentary; However, to me, it was a set of milestones.  Maybe someday I'll get around to signing my own genesis block... *As if there aren't too many coins to choose from in the first place.*

When I originally got into mining, I was mining Betacoins. Just Betacoins... Now, I have somewhere over 20 wallets for various coins.  Some are never going to be worth any money, some might end up being more profitable.  Money wasn't and isn't the motivating factor though.  I feel that my biggest interest was to be able to fully comprehend what everyone that mentioned "coins" was talking about.  I had to figure out what this was about.

What a difference that a year can make.

After the countless hours of reading, plucking away at a keyboard, and picking my brain... I think that I have figured out many things.  I have figured out why people mine coins.  It's not money..

It's that feeling you get...

The feeling when you setup your first bit of hardware.. When you enter a pool for the first time.. When you solo mine a block.. When you make your first trade on an exchange.. When you compile a wallet, and it actually works..  When you get to tell others about your mining "rig", like someone might talk about their car (right down to how many hashes you get per watt..).. When you find out how big this little planet can grow to actually be.. When you realize that no matter how far you have come, that you are only at the beginning.

Regardless of where the original developers for Silkcoin went, I know where the coin itself is heading... Over the mountainous dunes, and onward to the oasis.  The community carries the coin, and not the other way around.

From one camel to another, "March on!"

Sincerely,
MikeDoubleD

It all originates from a gloomy rain-filled day, in which I read the entire contents of a Roget's Thesaurus - front to back.  I plan on writing more, possibly making one of those new-fangled "blogs" that I keep hearing about.  I am working on a bitcoin-related comic, that I hope to bring to fruition soon.

Suggestions?

I installed the wallet last night, and it finished syncing sometime in the afternoon today.  I did restart it a couple times, when I thought it was stuck.  Basically, it took a fair bit of patience.

I didn't keep track of how many hours it took, but it had to have been at least six or more hours... maybe eight.  I was asleep through most of it.

If you were the person who just sent me some Silkcoins, just a little bit ago.. Thank you!

Such are great community here. Silkcoin truly has one of the most honest, humble, and dedicated communities in crypto. Mike comes in here and we throw a couple thousand silk at him. Pull up a chair, brother, stay awhile!

CryptoJohn, welcome back friend.

Would some one take time out and explain me, what new development is coming on Silkcoins path? I see few people commenting, but nothing pinpoint what development.

Sorry Jaipagare, sometimes we forget that not everybody is in the silkcoin google hangout. Email hanzlambrecht@gmail.com and ask him to add you to the conversation. There are hundreds of more pages there where you can see the development in progress.

There is no Silkcoin "dev". Members of the community donate their time and expertise working together for the greater good. We've been there man. We've been from the bottom, to the top and back down. The truth stayed behind and did what it took to survive. Some of us rewrote the code, some built the new website, others did graphic design, organization, donations, multipool, voting systems, wrote articles, whatever we could do. We have all built a new foundation that grows stronger everyday.

In development: dedicated multipool, updated wallet, in-wallet voting system and encrypted messaging.

The new wallet being released has a voting system that will allow the community to vote on direction. A voting system will allow us to move forward with intent. Kind of like a brain, like consciousness. It gives us, the community, the economy, the ecosystem (what ever you want to call it) a meaning, a structure. We can now have vision, grow and evolve rapidly from here.

The encrypted messaging system is in final testing. This will allow the community to have conversation and discourse inside the wallet, inside the ecosystem. I'm telling you friends, this is about to get exciting!

For me the natural extension of blockchain technology is towards online identity and voting.
Spending money is after all a form of voting and impetus for evolution in a capitalistic economy.

My reasons for ongoing interest in Silkcoin summarized for myself and others:
1. community take over
2. proof of stake
3. voting

If Silkcoin has a feedback mechanism in the form of project voting and a mechanism for designation of funds to projects based on staking weight and decided by voting, then it turns into something else completely.
At that point it turns into a system that creates itself.

What I hope it creates itself into is this:
A system for immediate, frictionless and secure payments peer to peer.
A system for persistent vendor identity, feedback and communication, none of it requiring trust.
A system for collating and consolidating community ideas and so direct incentive driven projects with built-in rewards on delivery.

What I hope the result will be:
A new way to communicate and transact, less wasted time and resources, more space for community and creativity.

Is there an android wallet under development by anyone in here?  Wondering if it will have pin or password protection, or perhaps 2 factor authorization?

The website looks very nice.

I am into silkscreening shirts.  Who owns Silkcoin's copyright?  Is someone in control of how it is merchandised?  Say, for example, that I made shirts... Would I be allowed to sell or give them away?

I am talking about likely less than 50 shirts, especially since they would all be printed by me - using water-based ink.
