They need to know, BTCD not a threat for any other alt coins. But also BTCD is Potential threat for BTC.

BTC is the gateway crypto for fiat to flow into our world. It is not only our friend, it is the crypto we need to most help!
BTCD/BTC is what BTCD is price in, so if we double the value of BTC, we just doubled the value of BTCD

In my mind all crypto is the same thing with just different prices for different colors. We work to increase the value of any crypto and that helps all crypto, including BTCD.

I want to create a big giant vortex of fiat flowing into crypto and BTC is the gateway that it will come pouring in from.

What if there was a way to "sell" BTCD without actually having to sell it?
What if you could lock in the current price and then without ever selling/buying BTCD you could change from long to neutral to short to long, etc.?

Well I talked to my friend shortNXT who issued the asset he is named after. this is a virtual asset that goes in the opposite direction of NXT. So if NXT goes up 5%, shortNXT goes down 5%. If NXT goes down 5%, shortNXT goes up 5%.

See, just like up is down, down is up

I was able to convince him to issue shortBTCD!

I think by tomorrow, you will be able to market time BTCD without touching your actual BTCD, this means you can even be staking with your BTCD while you hedge against down moves, lock in ATH, remove the hedge when you feel it is at a bottom, etc.

Following up on James' earlier post, ShortBTCD is now live on the NXT Asset Exchange (asset ID: 3267494002243225342).  As noted, it is designed to move in the opposite direction as BTCD/BTC.  Its target price is the previous day's target price minus the percentage change in BTCD/BTC over the same time period.

So if BTCD/BTC goes down 5% from one day to the next, ShortBTC should go up 5%.  The target price is supported by the issuer (and later, likely by 3rd party holders) with bids and asks on the Asset Exchange.

For example, it launched this morning at 10 am ET, when BTCD/BTC (based on the weighted average at coinmarketcap.com) was 0.00978.  Since then, BTCD/BTC has risen 17.6% to 0.0115.  So the target price of ShortBTC has fallen 17.6% (edit: from the initial price of 100) to 82.4.  Accordingly, the current bid/ask is 82/83.

There may not be 24-hour liquidity in the asset, but at least once a day, usually upon the daily reference calculations at 10 am (and typically for a good portion of the day), you can get into or out of positions as desired.  Today, for instance, we've maintained constantly liquidity since launch (about 5 hours), with pretty tight spreads.

Remember, it has done this quite a few times. Doubles or triples, consolidates, repeat. Usually the consolidates are drops of 20% to 30%, but we have gone through a cycle where consolidation just means not gaining price.

That's what brought me here. Very unusual.

I think that this pattern becomes broken now. The last increase was too fast in a too short time. The BTCD price is in the attention range of the LTC community which makes it harder for a next increasing step. Also the sudden increase usually means that it got bought by a lot shorttime investerors and speculants that will hurt later.

It will be interesting to see how it continues. Sure I hope all the best for you.

An impressive developer althought I wonder how you manage to be that active in the forum even going on irc to explain things (that was interesting to read) and developing this coin at the same time. I couldn't do that and hope you don't get that wrong but this makes me a little little bit questioning if you are real in the essence that you can bring up the power it takes to fully develope all this promised things next to all the things you are doing.

I don't know where this coin is heading I still have some reserved doubts and wonder if BTCD will really make it but I know that I was looking for a diversification to my DarkCoin investment for a long time and now I finally found something.

Let's say I am mr. BtDev-Wh having 30k and some BTC. Having an issue with this coin I could wait for a nice rise in BTCD, at 10am EST trow my BTC at the asset and during the day lower BTCD price 40%. At 10am EST next day make mr. Short miserable by selling all the assets and buying BTCD back. Now say I have 60k or 100k?

EDIT: not intended to offend anyone, just an example.

The amount available at the target price will be increased over time, but yes, this is something of a circuit breaker.  In the mean time, if someone wants a larger position than what's on offer, they can always put in a larger bid and then the issuer can decide whether it's prudent before filling it.

I did lose a day of dev time from the IRC chatting, which got me out of coding mode. It was the first time it happened though. Usually it actually helps me to post my ramblings here. I mean I talk to myself all the time, but putting things into words and posting it brings a sort of clarity. A lot of times as I am writing, I find ways to improve it and I am convinced had I just been in a cave coding, Teleport would not be anywhere as solid

So, I am delayed by my non-coding activities but if losing a day or even two and dispelling a significant FUD vector and having price go from .008 to .0011 has to happen occasionally, then we all just have to muddle through.

What I think most coin devs totally miss is that without the community, the coin has no value. With disinformation being spread (intentionally or not) it can really hurt a coin. Which will demoralize a community, which hurts the coin. So when I saw some incorrect stuff being said about Teleport, the alarm went off, everything else stopped and I did what I could to fix the situation.

I am thinking of myself not just as BTCD dev, but rather to make BTCD as powerful as it can be. I also have significant operating assets that I have responsibility to the assetholders. I am also significant voice in NXT community. I also want to help other coins. I also want to help BTC itself. A lot of people in NXT community earlier this year were complaining that I am doing too many things, I should just do one thing. I am not hearing so many such complaints anymore. In any case if I just do one thing, it wont get done any quicker and all the other things just dont get done. Seems like a waste to me. I am able to do a dozen projects at the same time, so I usually do.

I am actually a generalist and not a coder. [time to panic sell?] Yes I can code quite well [end panic sell!] but I also seem to be decent at a variety of other areas. I find that if I am coding 100% of the time, it is not the optimal allocation to maximize value. So sometimes I am doing a dozen coding things, sometimes half a dozen and half a dozen non-coding things.

On a rare day, I do nothing.

Ha ha I think we will hit $10 in no time...

This coin is performing a bit different (no big dumps) because in order to do that you would need very big number of coins that is obtained very cheap or for free... Obviously, that is not the case here... distribution is quite solid also...

My plan was to pile up more coins, but this thing is jumping like Jumpin' Jack...  

No way day trading, situation is too volatile, one might get burned really hard...


After that if things go more or less according to plans I guess price range is between $10-$100 in short time
