Does China care about Monero at all?

We've had a distinct lack of native Chinese speakers in the community.  I think all of us would like to see that change.

Does China care about Monero at all?

That's a very interesting question.

As something of a Sino-phile I can tell you that all investment opportunities are of interest to the average citizen (ie a lot more pragmatism, a lot less ego engaged), so if Chinese money isn't flowing in yet (and I think some is already, there are usually volume spikes around "this" time of day) it may well begin or increase as XMR gets more publicity there.

You could only imagine what would happen to the price if OKCoin or Huobi decided to list.

Wallet question:

I printed my wallet and sent a test amount.

I went to http://xmr.llcoins.net/checktx.html to check balance and need assistance with this part.

Everything that I need to input will come from my printed wallet from moneoraddress?

1. Transaction Hash:
2. Private Key:
3. Recipients Public Address:

You need the TX hash from wherever you're sending from.

Thanks!

My test wallet is a success.

One other thing I noticed was that on the bottom part of the page, the results, theres a few lines saying:

This address doesn't own output 0 with pubkey: (and then has an address).for amount: 0.07

Are these just error codes for incorrectly entering in the information?

Glad to hear it is going well. No, that's not an error. The 0.07 is some of the change that went back to the wallet you spent from. If you were to replace #2 and # 3 with the address and viewkey of the wallet you sent from and it should show that the address owns that output.

For example just like in Bitcoin, if you send 1 BTC from an address containing 2 BTC, the entire output of 2 BTC is spent in the transaction, with the change of 1 BTC going to a new address in your wallet. The same applies here.

I think a select few in China care but I expect that number to grow.  With price rise comes interest from all over.  China active nodes have not changed that much over the last month but one indicator might be seeing more active nodes in China and Asia as a whole.

Did it just hit 10$?  Grin
Edit: Nah, maybe a tiny bit less.

According to https://www.tradingview.com/chart/?symbol=XMRBTC*BTCUSD
it was $9.83 max

Well that happened eventually Smiley

No, Chinese people do not care about transaction privacy, untraceability and unlinkability. And they certainly do not care about bonkers speculation to the moon. /s

But if they really don't, they might soon(tm)

Well my viewing charts are showing over $10 U.S. right now.  This has been a great day for Monero.

$10 barrier has now been broken. At the time of this post, one Monero is worth approx. $10.43.

Ok, well if you want to move funds to cold storage without using simplewallet, you can use moneroaddress.org (or this: https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generator)

Generate the address on an offline computer and save the seed and private keys (the seed is all you need to restore the wallet, but might as well save it all).

Use the viewkey to check that your funds have arrived at cold storage address using this:
http://xmr.llcoins.net/checktx.html

Yep. That is exactly what I have done - and followed all this no problem.  It needs no CLI, all makes sense and I don't need simple wallet.

It was recovery that stumped me.  Getting the test XMR funds back out - then it gets tough, you do need to use the terminal command line and have simple wallet to recover.   Even MyMonero recovery requires SW to work.  But I will spend another day with my G/f watching me on the computer with a frown on.  It will cost me flowers and chocolates - at least Wink

Just wanted to verify about the recovery from a paper wallet. You need to use the terminal command line and have simple wallet to recover?

Now I'm wondering if I should just move the coins from poloniex to mymonero.com for now.

I would say that is certainly an improvement. But why not just:

Download simplewallet. Disconnect from the internet. Run simplewallet. Write down your mnemonic seed. Save your address in a text file on desktop. Restart computer. Reconnect to internet. Send to the address you saved on desktop.

That's pretty simple right? I think its a better halfmeasure for good security without going crazy over board than mymonero and still pretty easy.

I said this before and I'll say it again. Just pm me. I'm here to help.

I have always wondered why there is a disproportionate amount of posts that overwhelmingly sound off about selling at xx, making a profit of xx , shorted at xx here and in BTC speculation thread (or for that matter a few other alts).

Recovering the paper wallet can be done without simplewallet - you can take the 25 word seed directly to mymonero.com BUT you have to pay a one time import fee of 10 xmr. This fee is due to having to rescan the entire blockchain from 0, takes some resources to do so. (Maybe the fee will be reduced if the price continues to stay this high, I don't know.)

If it is a large enough amount I'd certainly sleep better at night having it in cold storage.
