I still don't get why people mine in only a single pool anyways...
Just fire up 2 miners and you're golden! Usually it even gives a little higher hashrate too.

You mean mining in 2 pools with a single GPU?
BTCguild not really stable for 2 days now, number of workers and hashrate dropped significantly this morning again. What is up?

Yes, GPUs are heavily multithreaded anyways and miners don't really use much memory, so there is no problem in running more than one mining program on a GPU. If you tune down priority of one pool, it will "failover" to that one, should the main pool have problems.

I was going to switch back over to BTCGuild tonight Hopefully you can work out whatever kinks are happening in the new server as I'd like to drop my MHash on your pool.

Me too, but need some kind of confidence that it won't break down when I'm sleeping and can't check on the pool every hour.

As much as I like this pool, I unfortunately will not be continuing to use it. The frequency of server issues is really driving away users - I don't think I'm alone in this. I can't even get a payout because the site thinks my Bitcoin address is invalid! I'd love to use this pool again, so hopefully these issues will be addressed.
this was a bad weekend for btcguild because the old server was overloaded and there was another problem with the new server transfer so after these issues are solved everything will be back on track and even more users can join this pool because it's great. Eleuthria has been doing a great job for the last couple of days and we cannot blame him for what's been happening to pool performance. BTC Guild is really a great pool! BTW, server is back online!

By now it should be assumed that if a hardware change (or in this case location & complete server change) occurs, it will die once I think it's safe to go to sleep. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I can't stay awake for 48 hours to monitor the server before getting some rest.
Server is back up, fixed a few things that weren't setup the same as the old server, and fixed some DB settings to account for the dramatic increase in RAM available on the new server.

I have done a lot datacenter and sysadmin work and systems going down is a fact of life. But any organization that has systems where finance is involved sets up a monitoring system that will alert the right people when things go offline. I like your pool best and I would really like it to stay up. I would be happy to volunteer time to set up monitoring for you or provide advice in that area. PM me if you are interested.

He was going to build in miner warnings, so turning that into a system warning for himself wont be hard. I bet the next hardware change will be flawless.

I'm talking more about a system that's not on the pool server or even in the same datacenter, running nagios or some other monitoring software that allows it to make requests periodically to the pool to make sure the system is fully functional. It is not good if you have the pool server also doing the monitoring, because when it goes down it probably won't be able to send the alert

Especially since instead of requesting to the pool, he can make the pool send out still-alive packets to his on system or other server, which starts the amazing bells and whistles when no packet has been recieved in 10 minutes

Well, if/when I finish my "poolpool"-software, this won't be an issue for me any longer anyways.
