Your point about feeding the family is ridiculous as well. There are many places in the world where people are earning $2 per hour, please go and tell these people $100 they can get from a sig add every month is just an insignificant tip.

People who earn $2 per hour certainly aren't participating in this forum, let alone be involved in a sig campaign.

An economy based on endless growth is unsustainable.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

What would you bet on that? What about people who earn even less, does that count?
I'm willing to take that bet any time.

I won't bet on other people's misery. Sorry.

FYI minimum wages in some EU countries like Romania and Bulgaria are around $160 a month. That's less than $6 a day. Not to mention  other continents like Africa or middle Asia where wages are even more 'impressive' in a very bad way. Do you think that here on bitcointalk we don't have any Romanians and Bulgarians, Ukrainians and Russians? Do you live in your own pocket universe? It is not misery. It is the reality of this world. You should be aware of it.

This sounds like you withdraw the point.  As others have said, what you can buy with one USD varies a whole lot depending on where you are in the world.  There are a lot of places with internet access and personal computers where USD buys quite a lot.  I wouldn't take Stargazer's bet because he's probably right.

Or, what if we set things up to add negative trust not just to paid advertizers, but to everyone who's running around promoting some company (ahem, MSCorp and keys, ahem).

Not for Vod, he adds negative trust to anyone who acts against the best interests of Microsoft.

Do you have the maturity to keep such discussions where they belong?

Perhaps advertising signatures could only appear in:
  • Economics
  • Marketplace
  • Trading discussion
  • Meta
  • Politics & Society
  • Beginners & Help
  • Off-topic
  • Archival
  • Altcoin Discussion
  • Announcements (Altcoins)
  • Mining (Altcoins)
  • Marketplace (Altcoins)

This would leave:
  • Bitcoin Discussion
  • Development & Technical Discussion
  • Mining
  • Technical Support
  • Project Development
Advert-spam free?

Although I guess this list is highly subjective, and we are back at the question of "does this really incentivise spammers to post less"?

Why is economics or altcoin discussion so different that bitcoin discussion? But I just want to ask something, most of the campaigns banned off-topic section and don't pay you for posts written there. Yet, people are posting there as before (with signatures) and spam is real. So I guess signature, or no signature there is no difference really.

Why?

1) Because some people are idiots
2) To increase their post count

You probably have no idea how much I've learned from this forum in 2010-2012 because this place was a lot different back then. I spent a year lurking before registering because I felt that I couldn't post anything worthwhile compared to the other posters.

Today I when I read the forums chances are that I learn absolutely nothing because all I see are these garbage posts. 1-2 year old members (sophomores) with sig ads talking out of their ass like they were experts but making factually incorrect posts. Give me a break!

Yes, I believe signatures lower the productive posts in this forum.
It's simple, advertisers just need to cut down on people who milk their campaigns.

You are an early adopter like me (but I didn't sell all my bitcoins in the old bubble ~1200 dollars). So I post here and wearing a sig ad but this doesn't mean I am trying to increase my post count , because this is a forum and everyone should have the right to post (only constructive phrases & concept).

If you want to learn something, open a thread and put some rules in the OP (the staff should enforce it) like :

*people with signature ad can't post here,
*etc...

You'd like people who are dumber than you to keep their mouths shut? Good luck and keep dreaming! Tongue That's the beauty of the internet, everyone has something to say and it's up to you to go through it all and select the stuff that matters.

It's hard to see how what you're describing is beautiful.  Nevertheless, I guess we can cede the point the the internet is full of shite and finding the good in all of that shite is a sort of modern day fact of life.

I thought the point about off-topic, made above, was relevant. Most of the campaigns don't pay for posts there, but that certainly hasn't slowed the flow of nonsense.  The counter point, that those posts are fore increasing rank, is also interesting, I think.  Perhaps the forum rank scheme could be reconfigured not to count posts in off-topic for the purposes of rank.

It means that admin and mods think signature campaign is reasonable.

It can help btc business going on in this forum, why ban it?

So because you have an ad sig it is reasonable?

This is about 99% of the problem actually (there is no-one without an ad sig that isn't a newbie sock-puppet that supports your point of view).

Please find 10 Legendary Members that support ad sigs if you want to refute this.

@tspacepilot - forum rank is not the reason they post crap - they post crap because they are "paid to do so" (this is also why they love "arguing about it").

With CIYAM anyone can create 100% generated C++ web applications in literally minutes.

BCT won't get rid of signatures because they are incentivized to leave them due to the added traffic they create.

I suppose there is another option available besides simply moving to another forum:

- Ostracize and Boycott any business that choose to create a signature campaign or more specifically has a signature campaign that has a minimum post count or pays out based upon posts.

Personally, I'd be happy if they just got rid of signature space entirely.  I'd also be willing to accept a monthly fee required to activate signature space (as long as the fee was large enough to make it unprofitable to participate in a signature campaign).
