I know everyone will be excited to learn I just added 2/3rds of an S9 to the pool! LOL

I received a new controller yesterday and slapped it into the miner. I knew I only had two working boards to play with. Upgraded the FW and ... low and behold one board wouldn't work. I screwed around with it for hours and never could get but one board running.

Finally just powered it off all night.

Today I decided WTH, and put another 550MHz board I had in it. I was *SURE* this board was dead, however.

Well it wasn't and I'm now blasting out an additional 7.75 Th/s. WuuHuu!  Grin

Sure wish I was able to get all 3 boards working. Two boards were all that I assumed I would be able to get running. Just not the boards I expected!  Huh
But two is better than none!

One of these days I hope to be able to get the board repaired. (Sadly, there will probably be more hardware needing repair the way things go with S9's. :-(

I'm sure it probably would be an easy fix for someone like Bitmainwarranty in Colorado. The red light on the board does not stay solidly lit, but flashes very quickly. I don't know what that means but I'm pretty sure Bitmainwarranty knows the answer!
Sorry for the OT.

Now for a little-little something-something different...

DE had a failover a couple of minutes after the block at 01:04:42 UTC due to network work at the node.

It lasted for a few minutes so all miners on DE will have failed over to their backup but will have come back by now.

Are the 14 TH/s shipped yet? Got a 13.5 TH/s S9 earlier this month, and reality is more like 13.737 TH/s.

I hear you man!  It can get annoying and pretty expensive keeping the s9's in tip top shape!  I'm glad that I got a couple control boards now so that I won't have to wait if another one goes out. I haven't got time to send mine off yet, besides it still puts out like 650mh with the 48 chips still doing some work, although I would think that it should put out more than that because there are 63 chips in total.  I'll try to send it before the end of the week for repair and let you know how it goes.  Good luck and Mine On! Are S9's prone to failing? what tends to go wrong? what causes it? I guess heat wont help with the life. I have ordered a new S9 and reading this post has got me wondering, when is it likely to go wrong? will it last a year? or is it more like 6 months?

Any one got any used gear laying around they are looking to get rid of? My Boss said I could bring my miners to work so trying to fill up the space. Since it is a wind farm kinda cool powering the miners by the wind! PM me instead of posting it to the thread please as advised by kano.

Sorry Kano, figured since i was a simi active member of the pool one post wasn't to bad. Just figured the pool would have gear laying around. With all the talk of buying the s9's and Avalons. All the hash I get is comming to the pool so figured it was a win win scenario. Edited my comment as well to only send pm's and not post in the thread.

I've had my 8 s9's for about 6 months now so far I've had to change 1 control board and from what it looks a second one will be going out soon as well as 1 hashing board that I have to send for repair now and not to mention that 2 or 3 ( don't remember) s9's have completely failed on me , that was within the guarantee time so I got them repaired for free but at the same time I had to pay around $70 to send each unit back by EMS and wait for about a month and a half to get it back.  It took them around 2-3 weeks just to confirm that they've received them. Now that they have a repair center in the U.S I'm sure that things might be faster but I don't know.

In my case from what it looks the control boards keep going out when the electricity keeps getting shut off very often or because of spikes, I think it can even brake just from some static electricity so I wouldn't recommend you touching it too much.  It is important to have a good power supply so don't be stingy and get a good one right away or it will cost you more later and having an extra power supply is a good idea as well as having an extra control board so that if one of these 2 brake you won't loose BTC, waiting or even looking for them.  Waiting for some parts or for your unit to get repaired is the worst thing!  I hope I didn't discourage you too much but it is the reality.  I keep my miners as cool as I can but where I'm located even with a special cooling system I can only have the room temp at around 27c and max I try not to get it go beyond 31-32c and I can tell you that at 27c they seem to work a lot more stable and even put out more hash.

Hope that helped! Happy mining!  Wink

Thats great, very useful information. Much appreciated. Its not put me off, but I do have a spare 3kw UPS system laying about, I'll run it through that, along with a good PSU. My room temp is around 27deg C here. Windows open trying to keep the office cool, and that just with 1 x S5, lol. Going to be a different climate with the S9, good job its winter coming.
