Mr. Kano do you support ASIC boost?  as far as i have heard, only scam pools do.
Nope, mine hasn't shown up yet.
I'll probably add it soon after that happens.
Tell me how to use asikboost if Kano will allow on the pool?

Kano is currently waiting for a Dragonmint T1 to arrive for testing. He has to adapt, and test, the asicboost coding to run on the pool. If you haven't read, or heard, the "other" pools have had problems lately. Might be from not properly testing the coding. This is, after all, a new technology that is still in its infancy.

Those other pools both have extreme cases of failure due to not testing properly.

One losing 3 blocks on various occasions.

The other losing 250-500 BTC by allowing a miner to test their system on the pool - a system that withheld blocks due to bugs.
That pool (slush) then hid the details about it and allowed the miner to get away with the large amount of BTC they were rewarded for testing mining with code that didn't work - the miners on the pool paid for it ... though today's hash rate on that pool proves that many of those miners didn't care about that loss that the pool hid the details from them, and the fact that the operator allowed that ... most likely for payment Tongue

Are uk and de nodes Ok? Can't reach them from my location since about this night.
Though, this may be related to the IP subnets ban by our local authorities, as I said before. Sad

I think I previously read about the 3 block loses, came down to something like arrogance and lack of testing...

Being a fan of reading up on the BTC's history that I missed while being blissfully ignorant do you have a link to the past where I could read up on the 250-300?

You'd have to read that pool's thread around Dec-2015 to Jan-2016 ... shouldn't be a lot of posts Tongue

But here was my calc post about it after people on that pool complained and were effectively ignored Smiley

Thanks, I'll user that to polish off my nightshift.
... and just to put some figures into that Smiley
Blocks back then were 25 BTC
80% luck of 228 blocks means 228 is 0.8 of expected i.e. expected was 285 blocks.
i.e. expected was 57 blocks more or 1426 BTC more.
Of course you could allow them to assume some certain level of luck over 228 blocks that's below 100% ... but of course not 80%
If we let them assume 90% then the loss is of course half that, i.e. you get 713 BTC lost ...
I like to just say 250-500 - but it's very likely it's more than 500.

-snip-

Thanks for that if anyone else wants to read it was around page 1072 I believe.

While it didn't explain everything, there was the mystery 10 PH, and the delay in reporting... so am I right in assuming this was an example of a malicious miner withholding blocks, and a pool not noticing.

I remember you saying it's "not hard to do" but is counter intuitive to most unless you were say a rival trying to sink a pool.

It was interesting seeing yourself and " he who must not be named" tossing around facts and how long it took people to get the hint.

No it wasn't directly malicious as such.

It was a case of crappy level testing of a proxy that the company involved was using.
The follow up problem of course being that when slush was told about it over and over, he eventually did look into it - I'm guessing it was OOC who contacted him and then he finally listened.

However, there's a rather stupid 2nd side to it all ...
The longest running pool on bitcoin wasn't checking for withholding ... or was just too lazy to bother to check ... for all those years ...
Who knows if slush does check properly now?

I know for a fact that the other pool brought up earlier in this discussion doesn't check at all and probably never will since he probably has no idea about how to ... but he can't anyway coz he throws away all the data required to do the testing
... even though they are now 20PH and still calling for more miners ...

I still don't get the point of withholding blocks. I'm mining for money, I want to be paid...
Well there's 3 ways to look at it:
Financial advantage, Competitive advantage, Because you can.

Brief overview Smiley

Financial advantage
Anyone who is paid PPS for their mining, the value of their mining falls with the rate at which blocks are found.
'Slower' blocks means a lower diff change and thus effectively a smaller drop in the value of their miners.
Only 1 block withheld affects the average by about 0.05%
Plus I have a specific follow up comment to anyone who says that people wouldn't do that:
Look at how many people mine altcoins and don't care that they are pretty much all scams.
People don't mind being involved in those scams, why would you expect people to not withhold?

Competitive advantage
A large pool maybe can afford to lose some BTC to destroy a small competitor?
(Or a small pool may be owned by someone with a LOT of BTC to risk some to help them get an advantage)

Because you can
Why do people DDoS servers, web sites, companies ...
Usually it's "Because they can"

When I was doing research on what pool to choose, I ran across this and many other occasions of delinquency. I spent hours scouring through the threads, and along the way, I discovered the dark underbelly of mining. It's there, and "some people" have made fortunes in the shadow of the uninformed. They STILL are today. This weighed in heavily on my mind. On a Moral level, it's just down right despicable.

Sooo, I decided that the uninformed should be enlightened, about these people and their shenanigans. However, here in the forum, one tends to get alot of friction, from "rocking the boat". Even though, most of the proof is here in the threads, people don't seem to want to notice it, or simply overlook it as opposed to speak out. Other people just stay ignorantly blissful, for the sake they think they're getting paid what they deserve. I tried helping a little with a signature leading to the thread about tax fees, but it was hardly noticed. It all led me to start a PR campaign on social media platforms. It's there, newcomers and veteran members alike, can be informed of the information. Then, they can come to BCT to find the info. At some point, EVERYONE in the Bitcoin community ends up here.   #takeminingback was born.

As with the darkness, there is light, and so I am a Proud member of Kano's Pool. Not only in this thread, but in many others, Kano has been very diligent about the security of Bitcoin, and users within the community. You can look back through, the years of Threads, and see his suggestions and warnings. Some people have been grateful, and some people bitch about their dust ( though they are BIG into mining  Wink). The proof of Kano's success is ever present. Not only as the best pool operator, but also the most dedicated to the users. That in itself, is our Biggest Reward. Someone who can, and will, educate the uninformed.

Well you got me through to the end of my nightshift. Thanks again.

As a fairly green miner in the scheme of things it does still floor me when I learn more about the ecosystem and the evolution of mining. You have taken on a very transparent approach with "member" support that goes unrivaled. Unfortunately most new miners (myself previously included) don't see beyond the flashy dashboards, or shiny distraction payout comments of many other pools. It took me a long while to find myself here permanently, at first due to ignorance then secondly due to a continuous cycling of equipment sales.

One thing that stood out was your willingness to devote so much time and resources to doublechecking the pool info during... I think October?? Can't remember for sure.

This stands in glaring contrast to the history lesson I just received and as you mention another pool that dumps the data never to be combed through (I was unaware of this). I did discover me and "him may have something in common (in blue)  Grin

Getting late starting to ramble... Mine on

@ shazaam a merit for all your efforts
