While I think it is really shady to be taking pre-orders this early and tie up peoples money (at 1% a week from the regular lenders, that's an extra bit of change) for all that time with no release date...  but I bet a lot of people will order anyway if you just provide this basic proof requested..
Really?

That's infinitely amusing considering the mining community has made the BFL folks fiat (maybe even btc) millionaires with impunity.  How dare anyone try to compete with the BFL overlords.

Baaaa.

Price point yes, don't forget the 1 year warranty.

Depending on the CC you use when paying. MC/VISA increases the manufacturers warranty by 1 year.

Let me just say that I didn't plan to purchase any ASIC and considered getting out of mining (at least putting all my gear on sale minus my 2 Cainsmore1 until they were not profitable anymore). That is until BTCFPGA had something to offer: *** being the single player was just not healthy in my opinion.

Just pre-ordered from you guys...

Trade BTC for €/$ at bitcoin.de (referral), it's cheaper and faster (acts as escrow and lets the buyers do bank transfers).

To answer some questions...

No these are not FPGA "hard Copy" chips

These would be considered Cell Based ASIC

I am not going into specific details about certain aspects of the prototype asics / mining unit because some of this may change from prototype to production

Please note I do not claim to be the technical mind behind all of this, this protoype has been achieved through leases, and contractors

the SHA256 hashing core was (not designed by me) it was leased through a overseas design firm

the prototype asics themselves were made in a multi project wafer run program through a university

we are still shopping around for a long term manufacturer of these asics

the mining units will be assembled at the same place that assembles the modminer quad.

I am still working on getting caught up with emails, if you send me an email you should receive a reply some time today

I will answer PM's as well but it's almost always better to email me.

thanks!

*** we are only guaranteeing a minimal performance of 27Gh/s all other hardware details are subject to change possibly without notice
(we are still prototyping after all)

While this is great news, I find it almost amusing that just like with FPGA, no-one can still match BFL on price/performance ratio Smiley

While this is slower, it's also cheaper. A comparison in GHs/USD is about a 20% difference, which is less than half what difference between the Single vs MMQ was.

How do you know?

Being off by a factor of four, or more, is not unprecedented in statements from BFL.

Also, as Tom said, 27GH/s was the minimum. Who knows, maybe software will bump that number up a decent amount. Only time will tell.

Patience young grasshopper...

Hm... i dont know cablepair so i cant say a word about how trustworthy he is but... when he really has a working prototype a video showing proof how the overall hashrate of a pool is rising high after letting the prototype work would highjump his sales. And, as far as i know, there would be no possibility to copy something even when the chip would be shown in the video isnt it?

So i only see that someone who wants to sell something has the possibility, without risking something, to raise the number of sold units very much... but dont want to do it.

Is there some risk im not aware of? Otherwise that sounds too strange to me.

Looking at the qty per week he intends to build, I'm pretty sure he'll be getting more than enough orders to fill his queue. Just from his existing and happy customer base.

Little risk perhaps. But also little gain for the pain/hassle of doing it.

Anything he puts together and shows will instantly be inundated with statements about how easily it could have been faked. Why bother?

I think it would be hard to fake. I mean when you would use a videorecorder and record the asic together with a laptopscreen or similar then you could open a pool-website there and see the hashrate. Then enable the asic and watch the pool hashrate rising. I think it would be hard to fake this.
Ok, when he really has so much orders that he has problems to deliver maybe. But he didnt want it from the start. And then there shouldnt be so much orders. So i still dont understand this. Its somewhat unlogic to me.

Exactly. If you place an order today for both a bASIC and a BFL ASIC, chances are you'll get the bASIC first.
