G'day everyone

I'm just returning to my desk after a hectic southern hemisphere summer vacation season, the kind where you need a vacation to get over it

A great big thank you to all those who sent well wishes for the holidays, we love you all.

Now, for those anxiously awaiting visible signs of activity the good news is wallets are to be upgraded/ refreshed this quarter. The bad news is that there has been a paucity of community feedback on the matter.

It is possible everyone was too busy at the end of last year to respond and since there is no immediate need for a fix or repair we can extend the response period to the end of January or even mid-February if discussion warrants it. There is no point waiting for new/ upgraded wallets to be tested and released, then saying "I wish you woulda..." or "You shoulda..." - put in your suggestions/ requests now.

If you don't wish to post your ideas publicly here then by all means PM or email me, just do so before the end of the month.

A couple of people have raised questions over what effect failure of the Cryptsy trading platform will have on CannabisCoin and I would suggest that the answer is "nothing". It is entirely likely many people have lost bitcoin and we have great sympathy for the victims of fraud and theft. Reading Cryptsy blog posts it looks as though they are making efforts to facilitate removal of most altcoin balances, which suggests there will be no change in the net number of CannabisCoin in circulation. Even in the very worst case scenario of Cryptsy's CannabisCoin wallets being corrupted/ destroyed then (by my estimate) we are only talking perhaps 1% of in-circulation coins. This will have no effect on CannabisCoin's utility as a medium of exchange for medical cannabis. Like Bitcoin CannabisCoin may be divided to 100-million parts (10^-8) which means we could trade in cents: _¢CANN (.01CANN) , millis: _mCANN (0.001CANN), micros: _μCANN (0.000001CANN) or even ... what do we call the smallest division of CannabisCoin (0.00000001CANN)?

Nomenclature: Perhaps surprisingly we have never formally defined a name for the smallest CannabisCoin unit. What does the community wish to do about this?

One thing, they are not "satoshi", that name refers to the smallest division of Bitcoin.

Here are a few suggestions from the team:

• terpenes - users will likely shorten that to "terps" as they do "sats" for satoshis
• trichomes - what would people shorten that to be? "trichs", maybe?
• millicents - cute but I don't know what Millicent will make of it (I suspect it should actually be "microcents" anyway).
  
• cannabinoids - would they become cancanns?

Hmm... CannabisCoin, packed with 100-million terpenes... could have potential. Microcent appears technically correct but seems something of a mouthful.

Tell us what you want to do about naming the smallest division of CannabisCoin.

Do you want to make suggestions here with a general vote held in a couple of weeks?

Do you want to hold a naming competition perhaps? Best name for the smallest division of CannabisCoin gets one million million of the newly named coin fragments (to avoid any confusion that's 10¹² x 10^-8 = 10⁴ CannabisCoin).

hi guys amazing work.

i wonder if you accept " medical marijuana dispensories " outside US? Lets say in amsterdam can i spend my CANN? What will local merchants benefit?

Acceptance of CannabisCoin is a matter for individual dispensaries wherever they are located and the Yes We CANN movement is not bound by national borders. Please note though that currently all compliance effort is concentrated on U.S. legislation.

There is little established precedent for such units. For those used to measurement the prefixes of "milli" and "micro" for 10^-3 and 10^-6 respectively are quite familiar. For 10^-9 we would use "nano" but what is the term for 10^-8? I suppose we could use "octo" to be consistent with "nano".

Question for mathematicians and linguists: is there a specific prefix for 10^-8? We'd love to hear from you.

as far as wallets go i only look for base functionality.

the major suggestion i can make is to update some of the base code,
for example bitcoins 'headers-first synchronization' which removes the need for use of bootstrap by making sync time much faster.

 yeah - wallet upgrade - why not incorporate the ability (as found in the 'core' wallets) to choose a different data directory? for myself, i keep the 'C' drive as small as i can and store data in other -safe- places. would be nice to be able to do that with crypto too

Upgrading the core code is the main reason for the impending upgrade round. While robust the current wallets are desperately slow for new users.

I don't have any direct information on such plans. What I do have is a link to this news report in the Arizona Daily Star of Arizona's year on year doubling of medical cannabis consumption, from 9 tons in 2014 to 19 tons last year.

PHOENIX — Arizona’s nearly 88,000 medical marijuana patients smoke, ate or otherwise consumed more than 19 tons of the drug last year.

And if the average price for marijuana from state-regulated dispensaries is $300 an ounce, it means medical users spent more than $184 million last year acquiring the drug legally.

Why not call the smallest unit of CANN a "Delta" Just like "Satoshi" honors the Bitcoin founder and has nothing to do with the bitcoin name (in the vein of milli-BTC etc) A "Delta" could be the same thing for CANN.

As for wallet upgrades maybe integrated CANN price and/or in wallet trading. It is possible. It has been done multiple times. In fact Infernoman is currently optimizing the in-wallet trading for a coin he is working on (I will not name it to prevent accusations of "shilling") but the point is he is a trustworthy, dependable and helpful guy he might be able to be tapped for technical expertise in implementing such a function

Unless we get some really hard proof that they actually will be going there not much will happen. Things have been way too quiet for way too long, some really good news is needed to push the price up. It has happened before so i am not saying it can not happen but given how slow it has lately been it is pretty unlikely. If you like gambling it could be good time to buy some because if we would ever see a pump again above 10k it would be a hell of a ride!

Maybe D9 knows some growers in Colorado who grow CANNdy. That would be great NEWS. We could get people behind the "Yes we CANN" movement to go and cheer on CANNdy at the show. Maybe all the fans would influence the judges.
