Greetings! This morning, after much anticipation, BitInstant has launched in two new countries, and now enables cash deposits at over 700,000 locations in USA, Brazil, and Russia (with Canada arriving in a couple weeks as well). Previously, cash deposits were only accepted at the four big banks here in the us (Chase, CitiBank, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America). Now, in addition to the banks, you can make a cash deposit at the following locations: USAWalmart CVS 7-Eleven MoneyGram Thousands more local convenience, retail, & drug stores and money service locations BrazilBoleto Bancário (Boleto) [These can be paid at ATM's, bank branches, post offices, lottery agents, and some supermarkets and drug stores as well as via online banking!] RussiaQiwi Network Cyberplat Network [Both networks contain thousands of cash kiosks popular throughout Russia] USA and Russia locations enable you to be credited within about an hour, and Brazil requires about 24 hours. The Brazilian Boleto system can be paid with the cash deposits or via Internet Banking . In total, this now adds over 700,000 cash deposit locations in addition to the major banks where people in these countries can buy Bitcoins with cash. Canada will be added within weeks, and other countries will follow. We've been extremely excited about this new deal for months, and we're thrilled to be able to finally share it with you all! All deposits have a standard lower rate of 3.99% all around. Visit BitInstant.com and give it a try! Always a pleasure serving you! Thanks, The Team at Bitinstant Support@bitinstant.com1.716.712.4846

Amazing but I tried and got ... Sorry, but this merchant is not ready to accept cash at this time. Please try again later. I don't even really need to deposit any cash but I was going to try making a deposit at 7-11 on my lunch break just to try it out. I mean this could bust bitcoin access & adoption wide open.

Simple! Same way a US Bank cash deposit works. Head over to the site, it will generate a deposit slip for you and just hand it into the teller at 7-11. Your good to go

The whole point of their business is to not be an exchange. That's how they were able to get a money transmitter's license in the first place.

That's the purpose of Coinapult.... you can avoid the exchanges completely and just get the Bitcoins in your email. As rjk mentioned above, BitInstant can't be the exchanger directly for various legal reasons.

1- The amount to send is USD, but it will display in real time your local currency in the field below 2- That $1.00 fee does not exist anymore, we will fix that now. There is no $1.00 fee. This looks great! 7-11 shows up as "Eleven" though.
Fixing now!

Great job guys. This will fill one major hurdle in Bitcoin which is the difficulty in actually getting Bitcoins.
Now if we could have the opposite. Go into Walmart with Bitcoins and exchange them for dollars you would have the perfect setup for wire transfers of money that could instantly compete with Western Union.
At least bit-pay can do a direct deposit of cash from BTC...

Hum,
1- If I'm buying with brazilian currency I think the fields should represent Real and not Dollar. When I go to buy I want to insert the exactly amount I want to pay in Real currency. 2- See that I only will know the exactly amout to pay in Real on the last screen that is not Bitinstant page anymore. 3- To generate boleto do I really need to insert my Cpf, Rg and other informations. I don't like that.

The UK seems an easy egg to crack as you can already just walk into a bank and put money into any account - is it just a technical matter (dealing with Lloyds still using 19th century technology and a bunch of tellers using quill pens) or a legal matter?

The whole point of their business is to not be an exchange. That's how they were able to get a money transmitter's license in the first place. This is partly true. Hum,
1- If I'm buying with brazilian currency I think the fields should represent Real and not Dollar. When I go to buy I want to insert the exactly amount I want to pay in Real currency. 2- See that I only will know the exactly amout to pay in Real on the last screen that is not Bitinstant page anymore. 3- To generate boleto do I really need to insert my Cpf, Rg and other informations. 1- Follow the instructions on our homepage, type in the amount in USD and it will show you on the bottom how much you will receive in MtGox. It will also show you the BRL amount. Have you tried it? You don't have to go to the next page, it will display right there. 2- We display a very close estimated amount in Real right on our homepage, and you don't even have to refresh. 3- I apologize but thats Brazilian Government regulations, not mine! The Brazilian gov't is VERY rigorous, we are lucky to even have this. The UK seems an easy egg to crack as you can already just walk into a bank and put money into any account - is it just a technical matter (dealing with Lloyds still using 19th century technology and a bunch of tellers using quill pens) or a legal matter?
UK, EU, and Canada are not far away. We launched US, Brazil and Russia first because we finished contracting with those countries first. Once a country is ready to go, we launch it within days

Immanent death of Western Union in 5... 4... 3... one shouldn't forget about the fees. with WU, the further a country the less WU fees are, also WU is cheaper by going to a local agent than sending it from their site with CC. for instance, WU fees on decent amount to China - 1%, Russia/Ukraine - 4%, Canada - 10% so in some cases it will be cheaper to send money through BitInstant, in others WU will still prevail.

I will look into this, Im not sure why its about $5 off. If its a mistake on our end, all transactions will still be honored.

For now...BitInstant is just getting into the game. With volume they could certainly compete. We will also be much easier and simpler. While WU's strategy is make you fill out 3 pages of paperwork while on any transaction under $1000 they barely need half a page of info, we only ask for the info we need. For example, when we roll out wire transfers and ACH, we will be required to get a little more information from you, only on certain transfers.

Cool, of course. I shot an email to our rep at the bank, will have a response in a few. If you find anymore bugs please let me know ASAP EDIT:Our devs recently made some changes to the integration with Brazil, and there appears to be a display issue regarding that. If you complete the transaction, the boleto (payment slip) says R$217.37 for a USD $100 transaction, which is the correct amount. We are working on fixing the wrong number showing in the checkout screen and it should be fixed shortly within a few days. Whats your donation address? -Charlie

Hi,
So If I want to buy 100 dollars, I'll receive 96 dollars that is = 208 Reais. With fees, on the end, I'll have to pay 215 Reais.
Suggestion:
Show total amount necessary to pay on the main page, including the fee. (The same information that appear on boleto)
Is this possible?

Great job guys. This will fill one major hurdle in Bitcoin which is the difficulty in actually getting Bitcoins.
Thanks Now if we could have the opposite. Go into Walmart with Bitcoins and exchange them for dollars you would have the perfect setup for wire transfers of money that could instantly compete with Western Union.
At least bit-pay can do a direct deposit of cash from BTC...
Should have that launched within 4 weeks or so. So we would be able to use your service to withdraw from Mt-gox to an US bank account?

Congratulations to Charlie and the rest of the BitInstant Team! If you've never used BitInstant, you should give it shot. It is, by far, the easiest and fastest way to convert cash to coins. Go BitInstant!
Also, for those in the US who may not be aware... you don't have to physically go to one of their participating locations if you have an account with one of the 4 banks they support. If you have a Chase account, you can make your deposit online by initiating a funds transfer from your account to the account # listed on the invoice. Same for BOA, Wells Fargo, and Citi.

Dumb a$$ #2 has same question(s). BTW, this looks great, Yankee! ~Bruno~ All hail to Smart[phone] a$$ guru! that the problem of b2b people lacking marketing skills offering products to general consumer - everything should be in plain sight in regards to process when dealing with general consumers. checking out "how it works" page at bitinstant.com doesn't explain process very well at all: How it works
BitInstant is the fastest and often easiest way to move your funds from one place to another
In a traditional transfer, your money moves from place to place, costing time each step of the way. Our solution is simple: we keep balances within each of these payment networks. As soon as we see your payment from one network, we can credit you instantly on another.
Select below for a tutorial
well, "tutorial" only has select options for "pay from" and "pay to" and couple of inputs for destination account and notification email address in what seem nonfunctional form. I don't see any tutorial there or explanations how it works exactly in terms what i should be doing. Also from this tutorial isn't clear what to use for 711/Walmart/CVS A following explanation would pretty much clear how the process works: - fill out simple form - print a receipt - take printed receipt to a store - have a person at cash register scan the receipt (assuming that's what they will do) and pay the balance due - when you get home, your money should be in account at selected destination ( roughly 30minutes) done!

Some stores only take cash. I have gone to several where they say "there's an ATM across the street...".
I could definitely see a store saying "we accept cash or Bitcoin". "There's a 7-11 next door..."

Charlie, Excellent job. A few recommendations on the following screens: The "Cash Deposit" default option in window should read "Select One" so that the person can click on the drop down menu and pick their preferred method of payment. Next: "Destination Account" is confusing. I liked it when the pop up help window said "email address of recipient" The way it reads now it leads me to believe I need to have a user name or account somewhere which creates confusion and friction in the process. Here's a use case scenario that I want to use this for: I have an online business. I want bitcoin, my customer only has cash. I instruct my customer to go to BitInstant.com and select "Cash Deposit to [take your pick]" Customer enters my email address as the "Destination account" Customer pays in cash and I get my bitcoin - SUCCESS! What do you think?

So, for Wal-Mart, I should be choosing Cash Desposit? ZipZap? How does this even work? I assume there must be some pre-existing service at Wal-Mart and other stores where people already use this for something else?
EDIT: Apparently I had a javascript fail, or the site has been updated, because now it's quite clear.
EDIT2: Although now I'm getting an error from CashPayment.com and/or it's not loading.

Hey, thanks!!! OK, The "Cash Deposit" default option in window should read "Select One" so that the person can click on the drop down menu and pick their preferred method of payment. --> GREAT idea, we will implement that right now "Destination Account" is confusing. I liked it when the pop up help window said "email address of recipient" --> We're gonna make the "Destination Account" disappear when you choose 'Bitcoin to Email' and notify email will just say 'Email Address or Mobile Number' which should be simple. Cool?

Our devs recently made some changes to the integration with Brazil, and there appears to be a display issue regarding that. If you complete the transaction, the boleto (payment slip) says R$217.37 for a USD $100 transaction, which is the correct amount. We are working on fixing the wrong number showing in the checkout screen and it should be fixed shortly within a few days.

FYI
Just returned from MoneyGram Had to call a phone Selected Amount and MAKE PAYMENT option Was connected to a REP in Manilla. Gave my Phone, Name Mailing Address on a recorded call Gave Receive Code (from Printout) Gave Account Number (from Printout) Was told to go to clerk to make payment.
Clerk couldn't find payment in the machine at the counter. Was told to call again.
Called again.
MoneyGram found existing order and deleted it.
Repeated entire process.
Clerk still had no data on the counter terminal.
MoneyGram rep on the phone said it must be the recipient not receiving the request??
Abandoned.
Could have been Local Vender->MoneyGram->ZipZap->BitInstant??
Are your servers overloaded?
Just curious

Here is what I did. I went to bitinstant.com and followed the screens through trustcash.com. After printing my payment slip I drove it to the nearest location (Wells Fargo). I gave them the exact amount for the transfer, and after a few puzzled looks from the teller she did the transfer. That was at 2:05pm. I will update this post when the cash arrives.
EDIT: BAM! 2:19pm and I'm in the money. No ID, no delay, no hassles. This is how I will get coins in the future.

Go through the process on the BitInstant and then ZipZap site. You will be given specific instructions how to complete the payment at the store. Try it, it works

No word about this major development on http://www.zipzapinc.com/ yet though. I wonder if they aren't all that eager to promote an even newer new payment network.

Mother of God. I can literally pull money from my bank account and convert that money to Bitcoins in the same building. And that building is just two blocks away from where I live.
I never thought that I would see the day...

Is it me, or has it just become easier to do a money transfer through Bitinstant with BTC than it is through Western Union with USD?

Now this kind of thing is why we do what we do, thanks for the business With regards to some of the misc bugs people have reported, most have been patched now, as you can probably imagine demand for a new service can be very high and we sometimes get a few glitches popping up. If anyone finds any issues that haven't been resolved already please email support@bitinstant.com and provide as much detail as possible. We're famous now for our rapid support responses.

You still need something next to the "Cash Deposit" default option to let people know that there are multiple choices for cash deposit - many people won't know to click the down arrow to see their choices. How about "Select One" or "Cash Deposit - Select One"? They might just leave the "Cash Deposit" field in the default position without specifying. Maybe you could have a prompt for them if they don't make a specific selection?

Maybe put the "go" button first so you don't have to scroll down to find it. Maybe slightly bigger too (not as big as the giant green button you had before - but green is still a good color):

I used the service and bitinstant's part of it was very fast. I think less than 5 minutes from the time I got my reference # from the cashier to the time the funds were in my mtgox account.
At CVS where I went, the moneygram part of the process had a small learning curve. When I got there, the cashier looked at it for a moment, tried to pull up the transaction and said to use the red moneygram phone. This phone has a kiosk # that moneygram uses to put the transaction on the store's list of active transactions. Moneygram asked for my name and address and the receive number and activated the transaction so the cashier could see it. I then went to the cashier who checked my id. So not really anonymous but then again once I have coins I guess it's up to me how anonymous I want to be in spending.
The amount was a little confusing because zipzap adds $3.95 but also writes the original amount that I typed into Bitinstant. Out of mutual caution between myself and the cashier we decided to go for the full amount. I'm not sure what would happen if we went for the original amount. Either way I knew I needed to pay the leave the store minus the full amount with fee included.
So I would probably use the bank deposit feature if possible but for folks in the boonies who had to previously buy a moneypak and go on -otc this is going to reduce the hassle quite a bit.
I plan to keep this USD as a balance to use to pay for things with BTC as needed. Like hosting, tchotchkies, bounties, and little gigs.

IIRC Moneygram asks ID for tx over a certain threshold. The cashier is just playing "dumb robot". The terminal either asks for ID and he/she enters it or it doesn't.

Generally we don't know the fees charged after it gets passed to zipzap but I will ask them about how to obtain this data.

My guess is if you paid the lower amount the transaction wouldn't be automatically detected and we'd need to manually clear it for you.

Eliminating the need to scroll down in order to find the "go" button would be nice because it is not currently intuitive (or easy) for the uninitiated to figure out what to do next.

When a customer selects "bitcoin to email" the screen should automatically change from this: To this: Currently, it is only changed AFTER the customer starts entering data and then it asks for a different data set. Also, "Email address or mobile number" should be changed to " Destination email address or mobile number" And lastly, did you do away with the "notification email address" or is that entered somewhere else now? BTW, great job!

1- Hi, why do I still see the message of 1 dollar fee for payment service? If I go to buy 100 dollars, the quote cash window say I'll receive 95,1. Should be 96,1
2- I think the boleto fee of 3,95 dollar very expensive. Is anything being done to have a cheaper fee?

1- Hi, why do I still see the message of 1 dollar fee for payment service?
This was an oversight - the old cash quote page was used as a template If I go to buy 100 dollars, the quote cash window say I'll receive 95,1. Should be 96,1
Is this on the homepage or after clicking the "send funds" button and getting the quote page? 2- I think the boleto fee of 3,95 dollar very expensive. Is anything being done to have a cheaper fee?
We are always trying to negotiate better fees with our partners, but as our relationship with zipzap has just started they may not be willing to lower fees just yet and some fees may be outside of both their and our control.

I tried to transfer from BOA online and it asked for a recipient zip code (which is unprovided) and wouldn't allow commas or periods in the name of the recipient which was supposedly TCASH ADS, Inc.

One word: Awesome! I simply had to try this out, so here is my review. Step 1: On The Web - Went to bitinstant.com - Chose Cash --> CVS to MtGox - Entered my mtgox account number (you can see it when logging into mtgox, I think you can use your mtgox username as well) - Entered 100 USD - Entered my email address - web page says: You Receive 96.01 USD - Click Send funds - You get to review what you entered - Click Go! - I get redirected to https://www.cashpayment.com/Public/CashOrder, where my current location is prefilled (in my case Mountain View CA) and I see a map with 14 stores within 5 miles. - I chose CVS at 850 California Street - Click Create Payment Slip, and my browser downloads a pfd file, which i print out This took about 1 minute The 1 page document contains the address of the store, some instructions, a bunch of labeled numbers, and some logos. It occurs to me that I have to pay USD 103.95 for my USD 100 transfer. Step 2: At The Store - The instructions mention a red phone... In the store there happens to be a red phone... I pick it up - The phone auto dials a number and I get connected to a robo-voice asking me to enter a number which I find on the table next to the phone. Now it knows which store I am in. - The robo-voice asks a number of questions (don't remember the exact order), and I specify that I want to pay a bill by typing on the phone, enter the amount to pay (103.95 from the pdf), enter the receive code 9611 (from the pdf), and eventually I am told that I will get redirected to a human. - This never happens, and after a minute or so I hang up and start over. - I go through the process again, and this time I get connected to an operator. - I confirm the amount to pay, tell the account number (from the pdf), tell my name and address. - The operator says that I am all set, and can go to the counter in the store and say that I want to make an express payment. - At the counter I say that I want to do an express payment using Money Gram. - She asks what the amount is and what my name is, and asks for ID. - I show her my Danish drivers license. She briefly looks at it and I pay her USD 104 and get back my 5 cents and a receipt. This took about 5 minutes Step 3: After Math - I receive an email from support@bitinstant.com shortly after. Actually the time on my receipt says 4:03 PM and I received the email 4:02. That's really fast The mail confirms that I have received USD 95.01 in my mtgox account. - Logging into my mtgox account I find USD 96.01 there, and since I am pretty sure that I did not have any funds there I guess that the email should have said USD 96.01 instead of 95.01. - Anyway... I purchase BTC 18.69981974 and send them to my wallet. This took about 1 minute All in all I paid USD 103.95 for USD 96.01 worth of BTC at the current market price. Will I do it again? Absolutely

All in all I paid USD 103.95 for USD 96.01 worth of BTC at the current market price.
Will I do it again? Absolutely
When is it ~7%? Is it always ~4% in US?

If I get stuck with a $3.95 fee, it looks like it would actually be cheaper to deposit at a bank, unless I sent a very large amount.

Honestly the best way to learn is to do it with $20 and see how easy it is. Go through the process on BitInstant.com, and you'll see all the instructions you need.
I tried it. I selected 'walmart' and 'to email' options, and tried depositing $20: It says I'm going to get $19.20 for my $20. A 4% fee. Seems good: It asks me for a 4 digit PIN, then tells me I'm going to receive $18.20 for my $20. A 9% fee. What happened there? Oh, and it also tells me there will be a further 1% fee for the USD to BTC conversion. So that's a nice round 10% fee in total. Then when I get the voucher to print, it turns out I have to pay $23.95 (a convenience fee of $3.95 has been added): That makes a total fee of exactly 25%. I pay $23.95 to get $18.202 and then have to pay an extra 1% on top of that for the conversion. I wonder if there's some way of presenting the true cost up front, and making the fees clearer. It seems, for instance, that I end up getting more money if I deposit $99.99 than if I deposit $100, because the rate goes up 1% at $100. But the only way of finding that out is by trial and error. I'd like to see the fee structure spelled out clearly.

--> We're gonna make the "Destination Account" disappear when you choose 'Bitcoin to Email' and notify email will just say 'Email Address or Mobile Number' which should be simple.
Cool?
Cool. I noticed it disappears if I select 'bitcoin to email' AND THEN edit the 'amount' field. But the 'destination' field is before the amount field, so it doesn't disappear until after I've become confused by its presence. Also, it doesn't reappear if I switch back to 'mtgox' or anything else.

Why are questions about Europe being systematically ignored? Apologies! I myself live in europe (UK in particular) and we do have plans in this area, but nothing is in place yet. We're looking to get something in the UK over the next few months and wider EU at some point over the next year.

Why are questions about Europe being systematically ignored? They are not! I've said it 3-4 times in this thread that Europe, UK and Asia are our #1 priorty. For licensing issues, Europe was a little harder to crack but we've already set up Bitinstant Europe Ltd and bank accounts for it. -Charlie

Yup, or any bank account in 186 countries in 100 currencies Amazing work! Good news for a change!

The fee page is not so useful. A lot of that info could be put in ranges and it would fit (I think in like 20% as much space or less). Ex: 100-110 fee 110-120 same fee 120-130 same fee is just taking up space. Combine similar imo.

+1 The main consideration for me is proximity. If one cares about the vendor they can still choose from among the nearby options.

Testing Bitinstant and would like answer for this:
1- "Tried" to buy 500 dollars with boleto (Brazil) 2- I looked the value of Real and (1 dollar is = 2,05 Real). 3- Clicked send funds and then go. 4- Boleto say I need to pay 1044 Reais So I ask: If 500 x 2,05 = 1025 Boleto Fee: 3,95 x 2,05 = 8,09 1025 + 8,09 = 1033,09
Why Boleto is 1044 and not 1033,09?
Suggestion: I think on quote cash transaction should show the value used in the dollar/real conversion.

A few pages back in this thread you will find others asking the same thing. It is apparently being looked at, and may be a bug related to how the real is calculated. If I understand correctly.

The rate is a flat 3.99% all around. When you do 'Bitcoin to email' coinapult charges an extra 1% for the conversion and trading fee which we clearly display in orange on the next page. For some transfers, zipzap adds $3.95 fee on it. So yes, when doing $20 it may seem $5 is too hefty, but on $500 its alot less. Any tips on avoiding the 3.95 fee by ZipZap? I read earlier that it seems to be because of MoneyGram... Which locations use moneygram?

Hi! I'm from Brazil... I think it is kind of difficult to keep track of "QuoteID / OrderID" codes... If you not save it before clicking "Go!", at the https://www.bitinstant.com/start_tx web page.... From now, I'll "print to a PDF" every step... I would like to use Bitinstant default web option called "Check Status" but, I can't find the required code to track my two transactions paid yesterday (14:00 -0300) using zipzap "boleto". I sent some e-mails to support@bitinstant.com but, the helper doesn't seem to know the answer of my question and he stops answering me for some reason... So, I need to sit and "wait in the dark"...?! Time IS money! Thanks in advance! Cheers! Thiago

Email sent to Zipzap
Hi,
1- I generated a boleto (not paid) on Bitinstant service with value of 1044,87 (número do documento 95155) 2- Then I received an email with subject ZipZap Action required, with the following info: Amount to pay: 1022,77 Account number: 781570676
So I ask:
Why boleto is 1044,87 and on Zipzap action required email say 1022,77?

Zipzap answer:
We are researching the reason for the different amount on the email but the transaction appears in our system as 1044,87 so that is what you should pay We apologize for the confusion.
Thank you for using ZipZap.

I tried to use this service today but I think I made a mistake. I tried to get $103.95 of bitcoins. But, when I talked to the guy on the phone, I deposited only $100.00. thus zipzap rejected the payment. Then I tried to get my money back but was put on hold 10 minutes before hanging up. I went home and re-did the procedure. After 15 minutes the guy answered and I got a number to get my money back. To receive payment you have to give a photo id which I did not really like doing. May try again in a couple days.
So in summary it would be nice if you lower the minimum amount to $100 that zipzap would accept that way we could just put a $100 bill in the machine.

I was initially excited at the prospect of buying bitcoins at walmart, but if an ID is required, my enthusiasm is dampened.
Do all these CVS/walmart/7-11 type services require ID?
Does bitinstant accept cash-in-the-mail or money orders?

Buy a TREZOR! Premier BTC hardware wallet. If you're reading this, you should probably buy one if you don't already have one. You'll thank me later.

No id is needed to deposit. Only if you screw up and send $100 instead of $103.95. zipzap will reject and then you have to call moneygram to get your money back.

There is a small issue with Zipzap's system at the moment. Some vendors are screwing up in the process. I assure you this glitch is a temporary one and will be sorted within a few days. Specifically, this is reference to the connivence fee. We've had a majority of successful payments, this is a rare issue. If you have any issues, please email support@bitinstant.com with 24/7 service as soon as possible or call our local ny number. Thanks! Charlie

From my experience with using the service at CVS: When i do my registration of the payment with the "red phone" at CVS I tell some operator that i want to transfer some money to some account. I tell my name/address to the operator. After that i go to the counter to do the payment. They ask for ID to make sure that I am doing the right payment, and not the payment of some other random guy. This is for my protection. They just make sure that the names match. The clerk has no idea that this is a bitcoin purchase. So this is just plain pattern matching. Put away your tilfoil hats.

Charlie Charlie, I think that there is a huge issue with Zipzap's system, not small. Bitinstant is fine but, Zipzap does NOT have identified two of my payments, executed day 24... The money isn't in my bank account anymore, since day 24, of course... And Bitinstant does not receive anything from Zipzap yet... Also, Zipzap tells me by e-mail, on day 25, that my two "boletos" was expired! And I have the payment vouchers in hands... So, not identifying two payments is a huge issue, at least for me, it is... Anyway, the Bitinstant support (Charlie) is working with me to solve this and nothing bad will happen, I'm sure. Keep the good work @ Bitinstant! Can I try it again tomorrow?! Making a new Zipzap "boleto"? I hope Zipzap works this time. Charlie, do you think that it is safe to use Zipzap again? Or it is better to wait a couple days?! Also, Bitinstant is doing a "lowercase" at the string of the destination account logins!! If the exchange require a "case sensitive" login to identify its users, this will be a problem too. Best, Thiago

You made the transfer Thursday evening, and now its a holiday weekend so a bit of bad luck. Like I said, your situation is under control. Feel free to make a new Boleto tomorrow. Thanks

After a couple failed attempts (problems on my side), I just successfully did cash->bitcoins via email.
I paid the cashier $500 USD and by the time I had walked out to get back on my motorcycle, I received an email from coinapult that my Bitcoins were ready to pickup.
Overall, I paid about 5.15% fee ($25.73) .This service is unbelievably awesome compared to previous methods of getting Bitcoin. +10,000 Internets to BitInstant for this service. LOVE IT!
I highly recommend this service for purchases between $100-1,000 USD.. Above that, it starts to make sense to use International wire. Below that, probably dwolla, as shitty as they are, is probably still the most economical bet.

At the bottom of the BitInstant page is the message: "Temporary issues with our "bitcoin to email" service"
Does that mean don't choose that option, or just that there could be issues if you do?

Your spinning flash thingy at the bottom still says Bitcoinica. Also, none of them do anything when you click them, should either make them open an associated page in a new tab, or else change the cursor to a standard one and not a hand.

I did not remove Bitcoinica as they have told us they plan on reopening once they return all funds. Yup, I agree. We are fixing up the How it Works page right now, so will fix that right after

Would there be a URL that would cause the page to load with the country already selected? E.g., If I would llke to give the URL to someone from Brazil, I want them to see Boleto automatically on the drop-down. Some will get confused after loading the site and not see any payment method they are familiar, not realizing they can use BitInstant just by clicking on the icon for their country. e.g., http://BitInstant.com/br or http://BitInstant.com/?country=br

I can go a step further and add on an HTTP header location lookup so if their browser allows, it can load Brazil default. Already the Zipzap page does this. Thanks

Sorry If I just made a silly mistake and dont understand but, I feel like this process could be much more straight forward...
I want to make a deposit at CVS. I chose CVS to Mtgox filled in my information and hit "Send funds" (Very strange language to be at this step) Then after hitting another ambiguous button "GO" I am brought to a new web page. ZipZap... I thought zipzap was another different payment method... I wanted to do a cash deposit... Furthermore the ZipZap page I was directed to doesn't list CVS as an available 'Payment Center' I have not filled out anything on the ZipZap page as of now.
At this point Im not sure If I have created an order with you guys or what the status of my "Order" is.
So help? Will choosing Walmart deposit also direct me to ZipZap? Does ZipZap charge a fee on top of the fees listed on your site? At what point have I created an 'order' with you, at which point I would be required to go deposit money?

Hey, You are over thinking it. It works the same way our cash bank deposits work. Simple enter your MtGox account, the amount, and email address and create a quote. On the next confirmation page hit Go and it will take you to our partner zipzap. Simply generate a slip at any of the locations and as soon as you make the deposit, within minutes your funds will be at MtGox. Feel free to have one of our support staff walk you thru it 716-712-4846 or support@bitinstant.com We are working on some 'How it Works' PDF's which we can link to Thanks Charlie

Thanks for the reply. This is my first time using your service. I think it would be great to change the button from saying "send funds" to "get quote". That send funds button scares me. So to confirm, I can only deposit at one of the "Payment Center" locations that show up on the zip zap page? Edit: Also videos are better than PDF's. But PDF's showing screenshots of the whole process is better than nothing.

Yeah I can see where confusion would set it for a new user. No user that I know of does a lot of reading before poking buttons, so what I would suggest is that you use the above suggestion to call the button "get quote" or something like that, and perhaps a popup help tip that tells the user they will be redirected to the ZipZap site to complete the transaction.
It's a shame that there isn't a way to make it completely integrated so no one ever leaves the Bitinstant site. That would be totally the best solution, but I'm assuming the only reason you haven't done that is because ZipZap won't let you.

Yeah I didnt want to start clicking buttons labled "send funds" before I knew what I was doing... but I sort of had to. Also I had no idea I would be re directed to ZipZap.

But PDF's showing screenshots of the whole process is better than nothing. Pleasure! And thank you for the suggestions. I agree with the text change, we will discuss it today and come up with the best text but I like 'Get Quote' You can deposit at any of them! However, if you choose Moneygram is has to be a MG location. If you choose 7-11 it has to be a 7-11 location. You can see ALL locations here: https://www.cashpayment.com/#paymentcenters I agree, video's are a tad more expensive. We had a cool video maker at the office the other day, so we should knock out a deal hopefully within a few days. It's a shame that there isn't a way to make it completely integrated so no one ever leaves the Bitinstant site. That would be totally the best solution, but I'm assuming the only reason you haven't done that is because ZipZap won't let you.
Great minds think alike! The reason we haven't done the complete white label integration is because it would have delayed the launch a few weeks for extra development. We wanted Bitcoiners to utilize new locations as fast as possible. We're working on it as we speak. Keep the suggestions coming! Charlie

And although I had much confusion in my experience, I had $$ sitting in my MtGox account before I got home from the store. Another thing I was annoyed by was the addition of the moneygram fee. It would be nice on the quote page to have an asterisk* saying that an additional Moneygram fee may apply if the deposit location you choose utilizes moneygram. Or something like that with better wording

Or something like that with better wording I dont know that that is exactly the case.. I had opted for "bitcoins-to-email" and used the red money gram phone at my local albertson's super market. I was not charged a convenience fee.. Both me and the cashier were suprised there was no convenience fee but everything went through super fast. Bitcoins arrived in my inbox within 2 minutes.

I think that you should make the bitinstant website more mobile friendly. Maybe create a bitinstant app for android or something. I tried to make an order from my smartphone and could not fill the form to generate the payment. It would be perfect if i could make the order from my phone right at walmart and just use the numbers in the zipzap receipt to fill the moneygram slip and receive the funds instantly on my Mtgox mobile app.

I love you guys, and hope you're being wildly successful... but:
Plugging in "Deposit $200, get $192" for a cash deposit and then finding out I'll actually have to bring $204.95 or $201.58 because of an extra third-party processing fee feels like bait-and-switch to me. Don't you know in advance how much the payment processors will charge? Does it vary based on location or something?
|
How often do you get the chance to work on a potentially world-changing project?

Thanks Gavin. We're still negotiating with our partners on the fee's. The past 3 days, the $3.95 fee actually wasn't there, and zipzap brought it back. We will adjust the formula so it shows accurately. Are you coming to Vienna next week? -Charlie
