I just found that, too and wanted to post it! It's really great! Full text: DHS S&T Awards $199K to Austin Based Factom Inc. for Internet of Things Systems Security
For Immediate Release DHS Science & Technology Press Office Contact: John Verrico, (202) 254-2385 WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) today awarded $199,000 to Factom Inc. based in Austin, Texas, to advance the security of digital identity for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The project titled “Blockchain Software to Prove Integrity of Captured Data From Border Devices” was awarded through Securing the Internet of Things (IoT), Solicitation Number: HSHQDC-16-R-00035, the first call for proposals under the Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) Other Transaction Solicitation (OTS) which launched in December 2015 to encourage non-traditional performers to offer solutions to some of the toughest threats facing DHS and the homeland security mission. “IoT devices are embedded within our daily lives – from the vehicle we drive to devices we wear – it’s critical to safeguard these devices from adversaries, said DHS Under Secretary for Science and Technology Dr. Reginald Brothers. “S&T is excited to engage our nation’s innovators, helping us to develop novel solutions for the Homeland Security Enterprise.” The Internet of Things is a convergence of mobile devices, information technology networks, connected sensors and devices. The DHS OTS call for security solutions seeks novel ideas and technologies to improve situational awareness and security for protecting these domains, including the 16 critical infrastructure sectors monitored by DHS. “The start-up community is already developing innovative commercial solutions for IoT, so why not take advantage of that?” said Melissa Ho, Managing Director, S&T’s Silicon Valley Innovation Program. “DHS is engaging this community to gain access to products that will have a large impact to our enterprise, and we’re excited by the diversity of solutions this solicitation is able to bring to the Department.” The Factom Inc. Team proposes to authenticate devices to prevent spoofing and ensure data integrity by leveraging one of the most secure networks – the blockchain. Factom will create an identity log that captures the identification of a device, who manufactured it, lists of available updates, known security issues and granted authorities while adding the dimension of time for added security. The goal is to limit would-be hackers’ abilities to corrupt the past records for a device, making it more difficult to spoof. For more information on future OTS solicitations visit http://scitech.dhs.gov/hsip or contact dhs-silicon-valley@hq.dhs.gov. Huge!! Congrats to the Factom team.

That is one of many reasons why I like Factom so much - even in quiet times it's possible that there come out great news without a warning before.
P.S.: And that's also the reason why I never really want to sell. Selling can be a high risk in Factom. ;-)

This is huge. A USA government agency funding a cryptocurrency? As a former VC, I can tell you that this will make Factom's series A financing round go MUCH smoother. Outstanding work Team Factom!

Absolutely agree. It shows that there is a lot going on behind the curtain and it's kind of a proof how professional the team is and in which direction this could go. Well, now I'm kinda annoyed that I sold my FCT, but I'm not gonna buy them back. I sold because the Factom team never talks to me or lets me know what they're really doing, even though I'm one of the Community Leaders. I don't know if M2 is next week or next year, or really anything about who they're talking to in China, and that's not only scary but annoying. Even if I miss out on bigger rallies and my wins are relatively smaller, I'll be correct more often if I am knowledgeable and informed, which plenty of other development teams are willing to do--at least for me. It's almost an issue of respect. I'm definitely happy with all the gains I made up until now, though!

I don't understand people complaining about Factom not being their friend, lover and holding their hand. It is a crypto/blockchain company not a friend for hire or an escort service.

Um, that's a retarded analogy. I don't want to talk to Factom because I'm LONELY. I go drinking for that. I want to talk so I can be informed. Otherwise, how can I make wise investment decisions? The other coins I'm invested in have given me detailed knowledge of who they're talking to, partnering with, and how far along they are in the development process. This will bother you less if you already have lots of money. In a very wealthy person's case, you can afford to bury a paper wallet and go long for a decade. I, however, have financial obligations and a small enough sum of capital that I'm required to constantly move money around to stay in the green, a strategy that was severely limited by holding something like FCT that I'll never be able to understand the timing and schedule of.

Um, that's a retarded analogy.
No it's retarded to think any different. It is the way most companies work. They don't go around announcing deals before they are made and they don't spoon feed people who are stock holders with daily updates. Owning Factoids is not even the same as owning stock. They owe you nothing. I don't want to talk to Factom because I'm LONELY. I go drinking for that. Then you have more serious problems to worry about then news about Factom.

Just listen to that idea.

Lol what is retarded is concrete thinking. It is one of the signs of a psychotic disorder. Sorry I assumed you could understand nuance and metaphor.

Lol what is retarded is concrete thinking. It is one of the signs of a psychotic disorder. Sorry I assumed you could understand nuance and metaphor. Metaphors are great explanatory tools when the comparison they make is correct. Yours, however, did not address my argument. I stated that I want to have information, and you countered that I shouldn't need someone to talk to so badly. Then you suggested that I have a problem for drinking when I'm lonely, even though that's what people commonly do all over the Western world on weekends to meet people in bars, pubs, etc. I think maybe you use nuance and metaphor too often, interpreting feelings and emotions that don't exist. I have no grudge against or ill will towards the Factom team. I got them lots of major news coverage, I presented them to the Vancouver community and my government contacts, then I earned a nice amount of Factoids. But their standards of communication are no longer tenable for someone with my limited amount of capital to invest. They don't OWE it to me to tell me what they're up to, but since other cryptocurrency devs tell me what they're up to--and probably you, if you ask--they do HAVE to tell me what they're up to IF they want me to keep my Factoids. Since I have nowhere near as many Factoids as forum users like whiteorg72, they decided informing me was not worth their time. It's a difference of opinion and I'm comfortable with stating it and then going away from this thread forever if that bothers people.

Maybe they can shut down sports streaming sites together? lol I would have sold on principle.
