The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Somebody have found DDOS really profitable, this morning almost 190 € now buying at 120 € is a good amount of money just for DOS a few servers. If you don't have the data, just keep your coins, don't panic sell.

Over 2,000 new /r/bitcoin subscribers on reddit today, this is definitely getting a lot of attention.

Also, the subreddit has had a 40% increase this month, up to almost 31,000 total.

i hope one year from now Gox doesn't even exist, they've had so much time as #1 but they're really showing that they're just not capable of being the #1 exchange in the rapidly growing climate.

To think of the money they have made and to think what kind of exchange we have to deal with, it's just totally unacceptable. They did more damage to Bitcoin today than good and i hope people leave them in droves, and the fees they charge are ridiculous

More likely the 'brand name' will change ownership a couple more times over the next several years, until it either ends up in the hands of people who can keep up or goes underground completely.  The website has already changed ownership twice.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

There are ForEX sites that have a long history of providing secure, fast, and functional sites that keep working when trading gets busy. I'm hoping one of those guys sets up an exchange to replace Magic The Gathering: Online eXchange.

I personally feel i have learned a lot after todays events. Hopefully I will be able to use what i have learned to be better prepared for next time this happens. I was lucky that I had some cash in the exchange at the time to take advantage of the situation.
