the free market will dictate what will be a success and what won't. I think the free market will pick many winners, not one

Well free market is already choosing and that is Bitcoin. If we take a look at the all time highs, Litecoin has dropped from $48 at one moment to about $3 at the moment. That's 16 times price decrease. Bitcoin's price has decreased only about 4 times from its all time high.

Bitcoin is first major cryptocoin. It has much bigger network effect than litecoin. Litecoin is a clone of bitcoin, it is no more innovative than bitcoin.

exactly. Litecoin will stay for a long time. to have the second biggest blockchain in the world is not a small thing. it has value because of that.

Why do you say shorter block times is a very real disadvantage please?

As the time required to propagate a new block throughout the entire network becomes a greater percentage of the bock-to-block interval, the system spends a greater percentage of time in an indeterminate state. This inconsistent state provides lower security due to the differing views that payer and payee have of the state of the system. This leads to a higher percentage of unsettleable transactions.

Quote
I don't see the disadvantage in better specs...

If the specs are unquestionably 'better', then by definition there can be no disadvantage. However, Litecoin's 2.5m block interval is not objectively better than Bitcoins 10m. It is merely _different_. There is a tradeoff between time to settle and determinism of settlement.

If Litecoin's 2.5m was objectively better than Bitcoin's 10m -- merely due to the shorter block interval -- why not 1m? Why not 15s?

Anyone with a campaign ad in their signature -- for an organization with which they are not otherwise affiliated -- is automatically deducted credibility points.

Bitcoin. Litecoin used to be Bitcoin's little brother, but now most other altcoins are just fading into bitcoin's ever-growing shadow. (Because it's price is getting higher, rite?)

looking for a signature campaign, dm me for that

What is better?  Which one do you guys recommend more?

Thank you for your time
Obviously everyone over here would recommend you to use bitcoin rather than using litecoin. Bitcoin has more people involved with it(that means it is more backed up by the community than litecoin). Bitcoin is way more popular in media than litecoin. Also, there are 10000x more bitcoin accepters than litecoin one's.

No true. If litecoin keeps on innovating and offers new feature suitable for today's world, it will beat bitcoin. However, litecoin plays safe here, just wants to be a clone of bitcoin, it will not be as successful.

BTC-E is what keeps Litecoin alive till this date. I wouldn't be surprised if the owners of BTC-E are major Litecoin holders with at least 10%-20% of the total minted coins in their possession.

I have been thinking that since the summer of 2013. I saw such huge sell offers in LTC worth hundreds and hundreds of Bitcoins at the time that I hardly could believe anyone halfway sane is crazy enough to deposit such amounts of coins on a shady exchange like BTC-E. Those manipulations occured more often and totally ruined LTC for me. I didn't lose money but I am no longer holding a coin that can is manipulated on such a massive scale- it's ridiculous!

Bitcoin although Litecoin can tag along for the journey as it has so far
Besides the algo not much differences fundamentally unlike 2.0 coins so it needs to adapt as well to remain competitive in the future.
Bitcoin has the dev power to do so we will see with Litecoins.

Believing in Bitcoins and it's ability to change the world

Those innovations need lot of funding from investors so I don't think any thing will happen in near future so I just stick to bitcoins only as of now.

Money won't be a problem for the litecoin guys, but getting new ideas would be. It's not really easy to gather new ideas for the development of a new crypto currency. Though if you are full of ideas then there would be hundreds of millionaires who would be there to help you out with the funding issues.

The conception that somehow everytime Bitcoin goes up Litecoin will follow is a dangerous one. I think at some point this may stop happening and the people that has been racking up a ton of cheap Litecoin waiting for that pump might be left out of the market. We still don't know if any other crypto besides Bitcoin is really needed and the alt thing was just a pointless fad.

I don't think it as a system needs much in the way of innovation. It does what it says on the tin. What it would really need is the people who've worked so hard to make Bitcoin used far and wide to want to slot LTC in as well. It wouldn't take much effort on their part but I can't see much enthusiasm on the horizon.

My totally irrelevent, non expert opinion is that all of the alts are set to be failures & only bitcoin will succeed.

the same innovations can come early on bitcoin, it's a clone war where bitcoin is the first, i don't see litecoin winning at all, it can't offer something that bitcoin can not have

Bitcoin is more used and exchangeable than Litecoin nowadays. The litecoin's price is increasing too but it's still not known nor used everywhere like Bitcoin, you can't easily and speedly exchange for fiat like Bitcoin, so i think working to earn and hold btc is the best choice
