OK, so I guess FC is tied up right now due to the tapeout?
You may guess as you please. Jan 14, the tapeout was -in fact- on track back then and still scheduled for the 20th?
FC confirmed in the last meeting that the tape out was on track for the 20-Jan. That meeting took place on 8-Jan. i just dont want to know. i'd prefer no updates (meaning cheap shares) and just keep on looking at AMs hashrate until it explodes

I actually prefer that friedcat doesn't post until he's sure about what he's going to say and that it's the right time to say it. Unlike butterfly labs, where "two weeks" became a running gag.

Friedcat mentioned before the challenges of finding a candidate to fill the pr roll, well this is me throwing my name into the hat. We need someone, that is clear... I imagine the roll to be mostly consolidating questions from the public to take to FC and friends for answers. I doubt I am the best person for the job, I have no experience in the field. What I do have however is motivation, a vested interest in AM, and the availability to fill the need.
Basically I feel we need someone to do what TAT was doing a few months ago, on a more regular basis...

My main concern is that the BITMAIN issue has to be clarified. Their products look exactly like ASICMINER's, and the specs are perfectly Gen2.
Good point. There is certainly an uncanny resemblance in the products (blades, sticks, cubes) and the timing & specs fit what we would have expected the Gen2 BE chips. Same sales approach (group-buys on bitcointalk, no pre-orders, etc). Even the announcement post with the blue headings and writing style is similar to FC. Maybe I'm hallucinating. The failed AM Gen2 chips must have been really abysmal for ASICMINER to decide to go for half a year without any product at all.

As long as FC keeps you informed every couple of weeks or so, that would be perfect. I don't think we'd need a vote. Just FC saying you are the "pr person". Job done.

I do it often with no responses. fc changed completely awhile back in terms of communication. don't know the reason. very strange. on bitmain: the U1, in my opinion is made in the same factory that the ASICMiner USB was made in. Some of the tiny physical aspects/details of the U1 and ASICMiner USB are IDENTICAL. If I had to guess, I think the simplest explanation for what's going is: fc and ASICMiner had some sort of a revolt occur and a split occurred. it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this was true. But this is just SPECULATION on my part. nothing more nothing less.

I know I do not have all the info, so it could be 100% wrong too. I do know that ASICMiner Gen2 was 65nm, not 55 as what bitmain uses.

FC started getting worried that everyone was a spy from a competing mining company and felt that he could trust no one. Hence the drop in communication. Maybe gen2 chip designs were indeed stolen and the paranoia is justified. I could see myself going slowly crazy this way in his position.

Because like everyone says, all we can do is guess. Hopefully the team is now "100% together" and can move forward in harmony. Whether there was a split or whatever, it certainly doesn't stop fc from entering into some simple communication on this forum. "Tapeout happened on schedule" or "Tapeout delayed until 30th January". How hard is that to post?

former business partners or team members taking AM's design and selling products with new chips under another name. not to forget Bitmain's no-preorder policy (what a coincidence ): We created a myth in bitcoin community: no pre-orders, shipping on time, even pre- shipping. We are earning more and more trust from worldwide customers. ...created a myth...more and more trust...welcome to AM's business model - oh the irony well, sounds not too much like scraping the bottom of an empty barrel in my ears. this whole mining business is like the goldrush all over again and a lot of shenanigans are going on as seen with other companies. after chinese new year and (hopefully) successful tapeout it's defintively time for a board meeting with Q&A and an update to all shareholders to get back to old strengths and shed some light on these assumptions & future plans for 2014. to quote fc's words: PR & Communications We understand that transparency and communication to shareholders and the public needs improvement. We are in the process of identifying a dedicated employee for this. We will issue bi-weekly reports for shareholders and improve response time for questions.
while being in this doubtful mood i have to add it once again: if AM plans on selling branded products for the endconsumer market on a larger scale in the future, with growing competition the lack of a website is really starting to disappoint me. (bitmain, knc, cointerra...every company has a site with shopsystem and partly a support forum while by contrast AM relies on scattered resellers, a facebook page and bitcointalk threads. as long as it works that way...good, but for how long?). oh and by the way, what happened to the planned Blockchain-based exchange?

Not sure how much they are planning on selling to end users to be honest, but who knows anything about their plans these days.
When does Chinese New Year end officially?

afaik the facebook page is the only remaining official web presence. (asicminer.co & asicminer.info is down since a while now) chinese year ends 31st January, let's see what the year of the horse has up its sleeves for the cat.

THe festivities last for 15 days. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/chinesenewyear1.htmlAnd importantly starts on 31st January .... so we are talking mid-feb, great ... Still beggars belief FC can't post anything during CNY though. Its not a crime in China to post to forums during festive season I presume?
