It appears gen3 is still selling and going for 1 RMB/ghash.

Where is that info from? Isn't that at or below cost?

I was under the impression that 'cost' was not known.  I do not believe your question can be answered at this time.

Ah, I guess you are right. I had the figure of $0.19-0.22/gh in my head, which I thought came directly from FC, but going back through his post history it would appear that he only gave the selling price range (unless it was edited). The 0.19-0.22 figure was likely an educated guess (from more knowledgeable people)  based upon typical manufacturing costs and projected profit margins, given AM's target selling price (originally stated to be $0.50-0.99/gh from FC)

Regardless, 1 RMB is $0.16 (according to google). Given everything we know, it would seem likely that is close to cost, would it not? Is it possible that these chips could be manufactured for sub $0.10/gh?

well, it depends on the quantity i'd guess and the relationships with the foundries. 60ph seems quite reasonably big to have one of the best production costs of the market tho. anyway, no one knows, thats the part of FC's cooking recipient  with no incentive to reveal all of it.

Well I was buying some chips myself and decided NOT to do it.

Due to all the nonsense that gets passed around on this thread, unless you can prove what you're saying then everyone should just treat it as FUD. There's just too many fudsters trying to play the market or just simply trolling.

As for the price of the chip, FC did mention it but he didn't give a specific price:

Update

Next Gen Chips
The projected time of taping out of Gen3 is January 20. Power consumption target estimation is <0.2W per G on low power mode and <0.2$ per G on wafer cost. Please notice that the timeline is of course subject to change/adjust, and the estimation on power and cost is also based on software tool/simulation results.

Ant this my friends is an example of buy on rumors...  Roll Eyes

Friedcat will no longer be anonymous, I'd assume the buying isn't over.

Thats right, FC going public is great news. Nothing to hide after all.. AM is just getting started. Smiley

There would be no reason to in that case. An anonymous person doesn't need to go public to admit defeat.  Only positive news can come from this. How many idiots just sold over the last few days. Was it you?

Yeah, maybe Friedcat is such a nice person that he finally wants to lift his anonymity revealing himself and introducing his team to the world precisely at the moment he is broke so the mob can lynch him and get subpoenas served. What a humble and honorable man!
Totally rational reason to be spending money in renting out a space to convocate leading mining partners with the theme "year of the exahash", maybe he changed careers and thought about becoming an event planner.

Sometimes I wonder how some people's brains manage to keep them standing on their two legs.

I need to ask, who is spongedudebob? Hope i do not regret that I did ask.

The conference might strike a blow to the competition from an unexpected angle:
If friedcat can hit with GEN 3 chips a price so low that the competition cannot even
hope to match it, there might be a point where even low efficiency chips can take
the cake: A price so low, that a ratio between:

-increased hashrate of the net
-price of the device vs competition / chance for ROI

clearly might be in favor of GEN 3 Huh? Cannot figure out the formula, though.
Somehow friedcat would have to lowball the price so skilled, that a smaller
process node has no chance to compete because production prices are higher.

If this is indeed possible this would knock the air out of the competition...

Spondoolies-tech, the israeli ASIC manufacturer that pre-sold 5Th miners and 16Th "bundles" for august delivery. The very same that came along in this thread spreading BS about FC selling at lost. (hope you didnt regret to ask ^^)

One thing i'm truly excited about is the talking regarding the Exahash Era. You cant bring this subject onto the table (for the first time in history) without having a serious plan in mind Cheesy

I feel bad for lophie, I like that guy dispite his sell off.  Now he is going to have to buy back in for a loss in a thin market.

You shouldn't feel sorry for him. He sold off a large number of shares then spread a bit of FUD in order to try and make more people sell off so he could buy back in at a lower price. His gamble and his FUD failed. People should learn from his mistake so they don't repeat it themselves and they should stop listening to people who can't backup their claims.

I went back and read his recent post history... you sir are correct.

I think overall this latest sell off will end up being a good thing for the share price long term.  I've talked to a few large holders that were able to pick up shares off-exchange, passing shares from weak => strong hands.

Things are about to get interesting.

Lophie may have screwed himself by going one too many times to the well looking for free water. The amount of weak hands left to sell at these low prices is shrinking by the day. Savvy investors have been fortifying their positions in preparation for what is coming.

That Friedcat is deciding to reveal himself and his team to the mining and greater Bitcoin world is significant. For a Man who has gone to the trouble of staying an anonymous CEO, coming out from behind the curtain now at this conference will be telling. I am definitely excited for next weekend.

Quote from june 2013

Q: After the batch shipping from Avalon and BFL, how would the manufacturers in Shenzhen compete with them?
Friedcat: Our advantage to manufacture chips at the cost price is invincible.
