1001  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Warning: Phishing email on: February 09, 2015, 11:02:43 PM
Hopefully all the people who have not discovered BTC yet are clicking these links, getting their computers bogged down with malware, going to get computer fixed, and learning to avoid these phishing attempts BEFORE they get into BTC and lose any BTC. Nothing like getting robbed in a hack to turn a n00b bitcoiner into a staunch anti-bitcoin evangelist.
1002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos said Give Bitcoin Two Years on: February 09, 2015, 10:56:17 PM
Yeah, 2 years is probably pretty right on. Enough time for the bad news of the last 2 years to be eclipsed by the other real-world advantages. Plus the halving, plus real world events demonstrating BTC's value, plus adoption in markets such as Africa.

It will be a rocky 2 years though. Fasten seatbelts!
1003  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 09, 2015, 10:50:29 PM
Financials are overdue, we've been in the dark for too long. Jutarul, any chance you might bring this up in the next board meeting? Some hints of what is going on would help all shareholders out...

yes! Please. Anything.

We are entering critical phase. If next gen isn't dealt with properly, this could be the end, or not? How are we to know?
1004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‘Bitcoin is Teaching Realism to Libertarians': An Interview With Old-School on: February 09, 2015, 04:13:49 AM
I like the things this guy has to say.
When I first heard of bitcoin, the technology made a lot of sense, but the politics (or the potential) are what sold me.
He puts it in very easy to understand terms. Everyone here should read this article.
1005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the elites plan when they get back from the island? on: February 09, 2015, 04:10:41 AM
"Old-School Cypherpunk" Vinay Gupta seems to think the bitcoin foundation is not such a good thing. see near the end of this article---> https://bitcoinmagazine.com/18000/bitcoin-is-teaching-realism-to-libertarians-an-interview-with-old-school-cypherpunk-vinay-gupta/
"And then you have the Bitcoin Foundation, which is emerging naturally from the Bitcoin environment simply because it has established an economically efficient configuration. By paying the technical priesthood of Bitcoin known as the Core developers, the Foundation has created a huge amount of centralized power within a system that didn’t really start with any, which has now effectively turned it into a natural monopoly. And once you have a monopoly, it looks like a state. No wonder that the Bitcoin Foundation looks so frightening."

He goes on to suggest that we, any of us, could start another Bitcoin Foundation, or several. There's nothing stopping you.
1006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese Government Official Believes Bitcoin Can Coexist with Government on: February 09, 2015, 04:04:32 AM
Hong Kong has already begun the transition to entirely digital money system. Specifically debit and credit card based. They plan to have no paper money within the decade. Bitcoin fits nicely into this plan.
1007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coindesk: 'Bad Blood' Between Ripple and Stellar Aired in Tell-All Report on: February 07, 2015, 04:34:46 AM
To take a quote from Henry Kissenger;
"Can't they just BOTH lose?"
1008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese Bitcoin Mine That's Making $1.5M a Month on: February 07, 2015, 01:05:13 AM
I watched the video and thought he said they made 1.5 $m since they opened. Video was filmed in October 2014, and factory had beeen open a "couple of months"

Cost of operating is 80000$ monthly

looks like a massive fire hazard.
1009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: interesting article - about Bitcoin gang on: February 07, 2015, 12:57:16 AM
Of course everything is about money. Exchanger runners don't give a fuck, they are there to make profit.

agree with you. then let's do not say "Bitcoin community is something else". BTC community is about pure profit/quick money and all the other shits like "decentralization, freedom, no gov rules" are only for fools just to put more money into system Smiley
I would disagree.
BTC was started by people with an interest in economics and cryptography... humanitarians with very egalitarian ideals. Satoshi brought forward his work in direct reaction to the financial crisis of 2008. Very quickly the libertarians and anarch-capatalists became interested, and the early promotion of the blockchain began. As the price of BTC rose, the money guys became very interested.

Roger Ver talks about this cycle. It is necessary, because the money guys are the ones who are going to work with the big players, the banks and the legislators, to bring BTC to its ultimate legitimacy. After that we will see ubiquitous BTC usage and acceptance.

Don't fret. It's coming...
1010  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 07, 2015, 12:36:08 AM
It's an old video. Made over a year ago...

It was published to motherboard's youtube channel today. Says they filmed it in october 2014.

It ain't AM or AMhash AFAIK
1011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Traditional cash is more privacy oriented then bitcoin on: February 06, 2015, 09:20:13 AM
I'm just undecided as to the ethics of total anonymity.
On the one hand I enjoy my privacy.
On the other hand... Big money can use it to avoid their responsibilities.
It's a double edged sword.
How many billions are in numbered Swiss accounts and off-shore havens?
Privacy, even anonymity has always been available for a price.
"Free for those who can afford it, very expensive for those who can't."
1012  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Traditional cash is more privacy oriented then bitcoin on: February 06, 2015, 08:19:52 AM
There aren't a lot of situations I can think of where I would need total anonymity.

You're right, normally when everything in the world is fine, then there isn't a pressing reason for Average Joe to need strong anonymity.

But when history repeats itself again as it always does and another Hitler eventually rises to power, modern day Average Joe will be screwed without anonymity. They would have incredible control being able to know where Joe is in real time because Joe voluntarily carries around a trendy tracking device in their pocket, be able to hear/read everything Joe says, be able to know almost everything about Joe, his personality his interests, be able to know everybody Joe knows, be able to know where Joe normally goes on an average day, what Joe normally buys and be able to prevent Joe from buying stuff by cancelling his cards/bank, be able prevent Joe from leaving the country with border patrol, and ultimately be able prevent any kind of attempt at a revolt by Average Joe.

Too late. Already happened. If you really want out of the system you either have to make it work for you or abandon it completely.

Real activism is hard. Going online and saying #freethepeople is easy. And it doesn't work.
1013  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Traditional cash is more privacy oriented then bitcoin on: February 06, 2015, 07:04:54 AM
There aren't a lot of situations I can think of where I would need total anonymity. I'm a law abiding, tax paying citizen. Trying to circumnavigate the system because I simply adhere to some high minded ideal of personal liberty is pointless for me. I do that kind of thing right out loud and in your face, consequences be damned.
I'm guessing most of the chest-beating anarcho capitalists here are just blowing smoke. If you really wanted to stay off the radar, why tout that here?
Be a f#%^ing grown up and pay your taxes
1014  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-02-05] Details: Can Bitcoin Clean Up Its Act? on: February 06, 2015, 06:54:45 AM
http://www.details.com/culture-trends/critical-eye/201502/bitcoin-digital-currency-investors

Good article, positive, even handed treatment of some of the controversies of the past few years. Doesn't pussyfoot around some of the trickier issues, remains focused on btc's promise. Looks forward with optimism.

This magazine has a huge circulation.
1015  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: February 06, 2015, 12:47:16 AM
"Active Mining ... are (sic)
operations that raised money to purportedly make ASICs and share the profits but never
delivered"

Really, ken is facing charges of operating a security illegally, but I'm happy to throw everything at him and see what sticks,

plus

"We also show that the most
successful scams draw the vast majority of their revenue from a few victims, presenting
an opportunity for law enforcement to track down and prosecute the scammers"

and, probably the most helpful part...

"The next goal is to identify payments made into and out of the scam."

Ken already ignored the order to show up to the hearing, automatically defaulting his right to appeal. Its over buddy... but here's one for you anyway...

Interesting read regarding Bitcoin scams. ActiveMining, Labcoin and Icedrill are all mentioned!

http://fc15.ifca.ai/preproceedings/paper_75.pdf

sent that study off to Hagerty. Makes for a nice bonfire under Kenny Boy. I wish these things moved as fast as the silk road trial, we'd all be vindicated already!
1017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dread Pirate Roberts Killed 5 men? on: February 05, 2015, 11:59:18 AM
According to the transcript here http://bitforum.info/t/silk-road-boss-ordered-assassination-of-5-people/217/1

DPR asked a Hells Angels member (which is pretty cool) to kill 5 men. If there's any follow up on this story please post the link so that I can follow.

 Wink Wink Wink

Its hard to prove he had them killed. This does point out his intention to, but no one knows if the assasins actually did their job or simply lied to him.

He didn't. He attempted to have people assassinated but it was a sting operation and the images of the hits were faked.

yes, this.
You are pretty much guaranteed of being blackmailed or set up if you try to hire contract killers. This aint the movies.

also, this contract killing stuff makes the fed's case look like bullshit.

and FYI, Hell's Angels arent cool. They are the most conservative, narrow minded group of low level bullies around. Most of them don't even like motorcycles.
1018  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here we go, china dumping massively on: February 05, 2015, 06:06:22 AM
Isn't it common knowledge that the exchanges, especially the non-USA ones, trade fake coins and fake volume to manipulate the price?

I have no proof, just heard one too many trusted member say as much. Plus it would not surprise me. Wherever money can be made through shady means, there are ample shady players willing to jump in.

Everyone hates regulation, but I hate bullshit manipulators worse.
1019  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ross Ulbricht Guilty of Everything on: February 05, 2015, 05:55:31 AM
I just hope this will signal the end to the "BTC=Criminal Activity" chapter of the FUD cycle. They got their Judas Goat, now can they please report on something OTHER than bad actors using BTC?

Fortunately the whole ISIS uses BTC thing is just too ridiculous to gain much traction, but honestly, can't they just look beyond these shock-stories?

Hopefully the fools out there can consider the world of BTC to be "cleaned up" now that the evil internet drug peddler is locked up, and maybe move on to a more positive view of this new tech.

Can't really tell you if Ross is guilty or not, doesn't seem entirely honest. We shall see what he's in for when sentanced. Also, he's going to appeal, and appeal, and appeal.

This aint over yet.
1020  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have 100 computers on: February 05, 2015, 05:32:36 AM
I have 100 computers with good specs and internet 24x7 online at my disposal.I know mining wouldn't be possible. What is the other best way to monitize may be computational power or storage rental like storj.Kindly suggest.
Several years ago someone who was working for some school district was actually CPU mining bitcoin with the school that he works at's computers over the summer, he apparently made several thousand dollars worth of bitcoin at the time (it would probably be worth a small fortune now).

Someone mentioned the possibility to mine a CPU mineable altcoin, however I don't think this would generate very much revenue as others would already be doing this

I heard that guy got caught (he gave himself away by allowing Vice magazine to interview him)
anyways, he got caught and lost his job. Not sure if worth it or not.
