anonymous loans could be given out based on account activity. now with anonymous loans the first loan would be small say $1. this could be dependent on how much shopping the individual does using magi. this could then increase slowly if loans are paid back on time to max of say $20. after this if you want to borrow more you would need to prove who you are where this will help boost your credit score. this is a option not compulsory.

people love credit and i think if they have a benefit in using magi it could be popular. the first credit card in crypto. ofcourse this a long term project so many mistakes to learn from. merchants could use it for their business by signing up as a merchant and having a master address where they use the system to loan credit to their customers.

if a big loan isn't repaid then as we only would give it to people who have proved themselves just how in the real there are debt collectors im sure many would be willing to start this service to act as debt collector where they get a piece of the pie

crazy idea but excellent if implemented
I must make a note of this and look into details later on, anyway, glad to see ideas coming up from members around.

Well today one of my staff called me and was really all over the place! He got a notice from our monitoring software complaining about one of the clusters went into Alert mode. When he logged in to the cluster management console he was presented with the following image :

And as a result I got the anxious call. He was saying he couldn't make sence of it, since the memory load on the hosts was so low, but the CPU consumption was at an all time high ...

After explaining to him he didn't need to worry, he calmed down and left me at it Wink I'm sure some of my staff who are not aware of the clusters mining Magi will panic tomorrow morning when they get into the office Cheesy

I definately need to adjust the monitoring to not include the low priority miners otherwise I'll get calls every hour or so Wink

Better to put a limit to CPU in this case. Smiley A collection of the miners is listed below, notice Spexx's speed controller can do the CPU limitation too in addition to NeedIfFindIt's package if you're on windows:
          # CPU Miner (source code)
NeedIfFindIt's GUI Magi Miner - Auto-adjusting hashrate: 0.9.6 Alpha, Files hosted on coinmagi.org; Another simple gui
Spexx's package - Original post, Release 12/03/2014, Release 11/02/2014, Speed controller ; Files hosted on coinmagi.org
MarcusDe's package - Dowload, Guide, Generic miner; Files hosted on coinmagi.org
Running miner in a VPS [linux os]
           Cygwin compilation (windows)
Compile and run CPU miner on Mac OS
           How to run a minerd

          # m-cpuminer-legacy (source code)
This miner is the same as generic CPU minerd except an additional option flag "-e cpu_efficiency", that allows adjusting cpu efficiency between 1 - 100.
Code:
minerdlegacy -o stratum+tcp://pool_url:pool_port -u pool_user.worker -p password -t thread_numbers -e cpu_efficiency

Did you see the above during downloading block chain, or after sync? That sounds mostly an invalid PoS block, and won't be counted into the block chain.

Finally, how does the wallet work exactly?  I understand that it stores the private keys to the public addresses that I can publish, but how do coins play into it?  What specific (private) data do I need from a wallet.dat backup in case of data loss, and what is recoverable from the blockchain?

Yes, what you need to do is to backup wallet.dat in case corruption of block data etc. More details can be found here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallet. Hope we have covered all of your questions. If not, feel free to ask again and again.  Cheesy

Hmm.  This is all interesting to consider, but I do have my thoughts about the decentralized nature of the currency compared to the centralized nature of pools.

I'll probably give pools a go at some point as well.  I think that both are interesting from a learning perspective.

Pool mining will be the better choice (but doesn't matter with decentralization/centralization Smiley).
1046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Coin Magi |1st PoS-II |1st PoM | M7M CPU only [HARD FORK SOON] on: January 18, 2015, 06:55:26 AM
In 0.9.6 it will use hardcoded 11MHs/11XMG which makes 100%/50%

In 0.9.7 it will use hardcoded 22MHs/22XMG which makes it running at 100% if the connection to my hosting is unavailable (also a message will appear).

If just magid crash then the MHs value will be grabbed from one of the pools and the XMG/Block will be estimated on MHs.

I guess using the block value (v0.9.6) would be better. The hashrate actually has no direct relationship with the difficulty-v2 and blockvalue, so it might be unreliable. I'm about to add difficulty-v2 based hashrate into the API call, but think that might be inaccurate; the formula is hashrate = diff * 2^32/blocktime =  diff * 2^32/180 if you want to use hashrate (actually blocktime varies a lot). Also the optimum network hash is supposed to be increasing over time, that is to allow more people mining.

An additional thought which might be useful in some situations: include an option to set the maximum of default CPU usage; for example, people may want to limit CPU mining while using their office PC.

I was just wondering how many coins I could expect to mine with an with a fairly decent cpu, like an old I7 i think its a 3700. Is it profitable at all?

There is a built-in calculator, run command: getminingbykhps; because of dynamic block rewards, results might be different by running at different time.
1048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Coin Magi | CPU mining | PoS-II | PoM | Unique BLK reward | [MagiPay] on: January 18, 2015, 06:35:12 AM
i have a recommended feature if you could implement it. you should create like magi credit score. just how in real life our credit score is used to assess if you get credit you could do something like that for the crypto world. one factor could be how much spending the person does, staking and then later to increase credit they could provide documents to verify identity

just a thought a credit score system which works for cypto is huge as you all know credit is really popular. this could also be for businesses who use your currency to trade ofcourse there is a risk of non payment but slowly the system will be perfected as you can learn from mistakes

this could really be the next stage in crypto. you could then let people offer loans by using your system which you charge a fee

We've been thinking doing trust network. Not quite sure how the credit score works in this scene, especially a coin go anonymous.

Maybe the guys that made sources for linux will intervene here?

Can it be done, so that the linux miner will monitor the network hashrate, block value like NeedIfFindIt windows miner?
That way, we all who have linux miners and VPS's will get alo the maximum XMG per watt.  Wink

I will try to make that.

For now I'm just letting the miners do their thing and collect the coins into a central wallet. I'm still a bit unclear on how the staking part works exactly but I don't plan to sell or trade. I'm in it for the long run Wink

Feel free to ask questions regarding staking. We do have a nice community. Smiley
1051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NobleCoin[NOBL] - Redefining 2015 - Colored Coin 'Fuel' [NOXT/NOCC] on: January 18, 2015, 06:01:19 AM
I am working with eagleflies and will make sure PoS happens (again either general or special Smiley ); it'll be better that the whole community takes a look at the source code (PoS-II), also an opportunity for me to get it improved.

https://github.com/magi-project/m-Noblecoin

We can work on this code base from now on. I've cleaned up many codes which are for prior magi hardforks but unnecessary to NOBL. To make sure changes are valid, I've tested it in testnet; so basically it's working. If all want, we can do the testnet. Also, I made changes to adapt to NOBL's specifications:
- 1 min PoS block time (5 min PoW block time, we have to have PoW block chain going before PoS is self-sustainable)
- 2 billion premine NOBL
- 7.5% APR for PoS (I don't yet look into PoS-II parameters carefully)

Though you guys already decided the interest rate; I have to say 7.5% is something I would concern. For comparison, magi uses 5% maximum, currently at 2.6% or so, number of coins generated by PoS-II can be seen here (currently 1.9 million supply) http://xmg.makejar.com/xmg-per-day. Question is that what if NOBL gets into top 10, would the interest generate too much value then? Never mind, just my thought.

A few comments:

I really think that now would be a good time to open discussion for a custom POW algo again. Or one of the tougher POW algo's that are not cost effective to asic. The POS train really has left the building.
Changing POW algo is tricky, that might cause hidden GPU miners. I'm not advising the magi's design, but I've been thinking these stuffs for few months; the most likely course to me is to encourage mining at a moderate hashrate level by enabling dynamic block reward; as what magi is doing, that basically makes multipool mining unlikely too.

Right now there is also PoS pool staking, that's definitely not good at all to PoS, centralization & potential security issue. I guess they will catch NOBL if NOBL takes the general PoS and uses a high interest rate, just be careful of this kind. Stakemybit was trying to get magi, but simply delisted it because of the PoS-II; you know how the staking pool is doing; I personally don't like this kind of things, too much speaking of profits, just not a coin all about.

It's entirely possible that general pos can deal with such problems with some tweaking and adjustements during building phase. It's good that we are aware of these problems now.
That's absolutely right, and that's how we get to PoS 2.0 and PoS-II.  Smiley

I think such attack could be mitigated with typical PoS if we used quite low Max Stake Age e.g. 1 week? And Min Stake Age of couple of hours? This way it does not matter if someone keeps staking for months since Weight will be capped.
For this, the better solution is blackcoin's PoS 2.0 which completely takes out the staking time, i.e., one never gets the advantage of offline time; but obviously, people can still stock a significant amount of coins to initiate an attack. That's not easy to be done, but possible (for example, pool staking, you'd never know what they are doing).

If one thinks about these issues further, he might end up with conclusion: stakers should not gain any advantage by staking significant amount of coins (per transitions), or offline time, that's just what PoS-II is about.

Feel free to point out any points I've missed or I was wrong.

Speaking of invesment, little suggestions: use a percentage (like 10%) of all funds to invest crypto stuffs. This will release us pressure in both sides; you won't go panic selling while price getting lower, and XMG won't be too much care of the bear market and too much pressure to make price back, that's just not all about. We'll manage to get XMG throughout the year of 2015.

Where to get a compiled version of m-cpuminer-legacy ?

I only found the link to the source code.

I will get the compiled miner ASAP.

Magi back to 7000s range in bittrex  Grin

hope those that are active here managed to get some cheap xmg

To be frank, I got buy orders at 3k - 4k filled a few days ago; Tongue I guess a few other members here sustained the price as low as 3K, while getting a bag of coins.

I have ~144 XMG in my wallet, how is my stake weight derived? I moved 144 to 2 other addresses and back quite a few times? The days to reward is 150+ days OMG

In general PoS, stake weight amounts to number of coins times the number of days in stake. PoS-II modified the way of calculating days in stake using a kind of math functions. You can find the stake weight (also coin age) from the following figure.

The bottom line is nearly corresponding to your situation.

Quote
The days to reward is 150+ days OMG
The expected time is never accurate, as it's calculated by PoS block time x network weight / your stake weight. Obviously, this equation never gives zero. You will see the expected time quickly gets reduced over time. I believe it will give a relatively "accurate" time by staking a few hours. Based on that, you will have some idea about how much time for offline; I suggest back online at least once a day to check the status. When it says expected time is about few hours, keep it online; when it says a few minutes, that's crazy, don't trust it Smiley, just keep it online and reap reward; but don't miss the reward time or stay offline too long time.

Thanks for the advice and for including magid

Got new version based on:
Code:
[blockvalue] => Array
        (
            [difficulty-V2] => x.xxxxxxxx
            [blockvalue] => xx.xxxxxxxx
        )

Targeting at least 12 XMG block value for the full speed (with hope that this will almost cover the energy cost soon).

Nice, I've added the miner to the OP. A question, is the miner using the reward information from your hosted magid? what happens if the site gets offline, will that be problematic to running the miner?

Thank you very much, very interesting information. I wonder if the difference in coins per day is related to the hashrate; higher hashrate less coins, lower hashrate more coins?
That would be superb.
That's true, the higher hashrate, the less coins.
1058  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Coin Magi | CPU mining | PoS-II | PoM | Unique BLK reward | [MagiPay] on: January 17, 2015, 02:15:13 AM
THANKS! This will definitely push me into doing new crazy things around Magicoin  Grin

Do it. Smiley will be nice to see; I suggest adding XMG address into sig so that people can easily find the address to donate. Btw, added http://xmg.makejar.com/xmg-per-day/ into OP

In POS the things are harder to predict. Every time I get Stake my inputs split in half. After a week my 500 XMG got into 15 smaller pieces. Should I merge it (send to one address) for better results?

Yes, merging into a bigger amount (no more than 2000) will be better.

oVPN.to Anonymous Services accepts XMG Magi Coin!

Trust us. We don't dump your XMG to the market! We want to stake! Check: https://vcp.ovpn.to

Thanks, oVPN. It's very nice that you have supported XMG all the time.

We're gonna have magipay test with merchants, are you able to do that? At this moment we will provide php integration, or you'd prefer a specific platform other than that?

Here I also call for anyone who is interested to MagiPay merchant service. Using MagiPay service at this moment is totally free. Just set it up, selling something & receiving XMG.

I would like to thank whoever it was just sent me 127-odd XMG. Very nice of you. Another anonymous person sent me twice that last week.

What have I done to deserve this?

I must be doing something right for a change Cheesy

It has been a fabulous day, all things considered.

Spexx, you deserve much more reward than that as to your contribution to XMG. Smiley
