1081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Succeeded in introducing Bitcoin to a friend on: December 19, 2023, 02:00:02 AM
My question now is that is it wise that I showed him the amount of Bitcoins I have accumulated before he developed interest?

I don't think so.
1082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You will burn on: December 19, 2023, 01:55:58 AM
Shitcoins are fine for huge gains, for example, brc20 shitcoins are giving huge gains right now, but to secure those gains park 'em in Bitcoin.

Not a fan of directly investing in Bitcoin tho, at least in times like right now where we are heading to bull market. Even if you invested in BTC at $20k, you'll have 4x at $80k, meanwhile alts would be flying high by then.
1083  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to avoid a scam project? on: December 19, 2023, 01:47:56 AM
Having money in project and losing it teaches you most why particular project was a scam. Invest (what you can afford to lose) in projects you think are good and lessons will show up themselves, you'll automatically be able to identify scam projects from first glance after few experiences.
will not automatically be able to identify fraudulent projects even though they have been trapped in fraudulent projects before. but this is about awareness of how you invest money in projects that you believe in or not. thorough research is important to do. There are some people who always fall into the trap of fraudulent projects because they are tempted by large returns, even though if you calculate it, it doesn't make sense. no one will give big returns or bonuses without any frills behind it.

Yes, awareness is required but when your money is involved, awareness comes naturally. It's like trading with demo account and real trading account, lessons come from latter one.
1084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jpg monkeys are making the fees impossible? Just use a meme coin! on: December 19, 2023, 01:46:33 AM
It's just so sad that Bitcoin's adoption as a legitimate money is easily hindered, slowed down, heaven forbid halted, just because of monkeys.

Nah, it didn't. It just showed to Bitcoin that it gotta do better. If it can't handle this monkeys, how do you expect Bitcoin to be adopted into real world?

It's quite funny, that people were quick to judge ethereum for it's high fees when nfts congested it. Meanwhile, now same thing has come upon Bitcoin and people are blaming ordinals and not Bitcoin.
1085  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 19, 2023, 01:25:58 AM
I would actually like to see the teams that build from scratch. Because I do not want to see the same players play for the same team for a long period of time. Because what's the point of having a tournament like this then?

That actually happens during mega auction, to most extent, here, franchises are only allowed to retain 4 players (this was case in 2022's mega auction, prior to it was 5), so team's have to build remaining squad from scratch unlike mini auctions where there is no limit to retained players, so teams remain more or less same.
1086  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The best decision you can take on: December 19, 2023, 01:03:12 AM
As long as trading is concern, it's very essential you have a guideline rules you follow while trading, and one of those rules is not trading when not sure of the market.

That's correct, and I have been bitten when getting trades I was unsure of.

Few days ago wanted to dive into brc20 tokens, but I didn't because I don't understand them at all. Early this year, I minted inscription called honey badgers, and I lost them in transaction fees, lol. I paid 30$ of those and atm they are worth $400 but I lost it because I didn't know how they work.

Also, same advise have been given trading veterans in past, and may be one of reason Warren Buffet doesn't invest in Bitcoin. Although, I would still call his remarks ignorant.
1087  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 18, 2023, 03:05:17 PM
For those unaware, tomorrow is IPL auction, starting 1 PM IST. Coetzee, Starc, Cummins, Madhushanka will likely get high bids. Pat cummins should captain the team wherever he goes  Tongue
Also, I feel really sad for Rohit who might not play in the upcoming season despite his huge contributions to MI and the IPL.

He has been retained that means he will play but not as captain and there are lot of rumors/speculations about this on social media but we don't know what is the real truth but as per the veterans this decision can't be made without discussing with Rohit.

That's true, I mentioned about it in India cricket thread. There ought to be yes nod from rohit before making Hardik captain

Quote
@libert19, On the batting we may expect Head, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin will probably go for the highest bid and I expect this year we may see new record for costliest buy since the many teams have huge purse. Previous costliest sold player Sam Curran– Rs 18.50 Cr. – Punjab Kings (2023).

History has shown, costly players usually don't play up to their cost, so hopefully bidders won't overdo it. I feel players also feel pressure due to high purchase, pressure to play good and in return they do worse.
1088  Other / Meta / Re: [proposal] forum subdomains on: December 18, 2023, 12:53:19 PM
Not really necessary, but sounds posh. Unnecessary because: 1) you can bookmark sections in your browser, 2) if you visit certain sections frequently your browser will automatically recommend them as you type couple letters in address bar.

Edit: I read comments after making this post and well I agree to some extent. It'd be easy if there were subdomains, at least in f2f talk, on Internet communication I don't think it'd have much value, here you can well, just copy link to meta?
1089  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think will be the next hype in crypto? on: December 18, 2023, 12:45:44 PM
It's not next, we're already in hype of Brc20 tokens, I see so many of them giving huge gains, when you look at these projects you know they won't last longer, it's precisely like 2017 ico/airdrops hype, no substance but still value. People are made after them for gains.

Ngl, I also felt like diving into them, but I understand nothing about it, and crazy Bitcoin fees counts too.

I'm hearing on Twitter, there is going to be $MOV airdrop to $TIA stakers, although I'm not sure from where exactly this news is getting wind from. I checked tweets on official mover network handle, nothing is mentioning it. But, stake your $TIA if you have 'em lying around.

Lightning Network can be used. I know that Binance and Coinbase support Lightning Network, but I am banned on both exchanges, so I wonder if there are other exchanges that support Lightning?

Fixedfloat [1] instant exchange supports Bitcoin LN, you can use it to convert to other crypto cheaply. I wish there was cheaper way to convert Bitcoin itself to Bitcoin LN tho.

I've been stuck for several days now. I want to send $100 Bitcoin from my Electreum wallet but I don't want to pay $10-18 fees to transfer $100.

You could have sent transaction with 42 sats fee [2] instead of waiting, and it would have gotten confirmed by now. I did same week ago, and it was confirmed in 8 hours or so.

When I was going to bed, I did transaction, and by time I woke up, it was confirmed. Paid $2.73 fee.

Monkey owners must be happy!!!

They certainly are, printing money.

What Ian Chappel said about Pakistan back in 2017, still applies, things haven't changed at all, cricket Aus keeps sending them invites, just to add to their misery, and Pakistan keeps hopium alive they will win some day without improving themselves.

Pakistan sometimes bowls and bats well, so I'd leave it, but poor fielding, and captainship are long standing enemies. Without good fielding, bowlers can't be blamed much, and without proper leadership, team strengths aren't led and directed well.

1095  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Secure your crypto wealth by not having it all in crypto on: December 18, 2023, 12:48:35 AM
Where do the people get the thought that hoarding all money in one place is safe?
Having lack of knowledge may make one do that.

i learned the lesson myself when i hold a token thinking it will have a high value the longer i hold it but it's not the case when it comes to altcoins.  in a few days, the price could take a nosedive and you are left with zilch. in the bull market, an altcoin could pump its price to $80 each while in bear season its price could fall to $0.18, this is very true for the token i hold.

it feels like everyone is dumping the coin like there is no community willing to hold to show they support the project.
I know that feel. You don't know how much money I have given up by holding alts for long time.

Especially shitcoins that can get attacked, “hacked” and disappear overnight. One should only rely on them short term, get profits and move on to the next one. I made this mistake during the 2017 ICO boom. I put a lot of trust in a number of tokens, thinking I would become a millionaire after another bull run. I was completely wrong. Most of those altcoins tanked and never recovered by the next bull run.
I did precisely same thing.

Those that know how to store their cryptos won't have any problem having an all-in portfolio with 100% crypto.
Even if you know how to secure it, it's better to diversify and minimize risk exposure to one asset class.
1096  Local / India / Re: India cricket Discussion and predictions [self-mod] on: December 17, 2023, 02:31:31 PM
Sudarshan played really well, as a debutant he got his first 50 in International cricket. He was lucky too as in the early stage of the match he was actually LBW. The umpire said not out as he thought that the ball hit the bat. South African thought the ball might not be hitting the legs stump and did not ask for DRS. Turns out later that the ball was hitting the leg stump.

Yea, SA should have taken DRS since they had nothing to lose with such low score anyway. Early wicket might have put pressure on India and might have made game bit interesting, although highly unlikely it would have changed much.
1097  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Follow the technique if you have zero trading knowledge in crypto on: December 17, 2023, 02:01:15 PM
>> When you see the price increasing very quickly in a very short period of time and there are posts and discussions everywhere including social media that the price will increase, then refrain from catching any buys and trades and investigate the reasons for the price increase.[/b]

I second that. Have fallen victim to this quite a few times, despite being aware that it's just fomo, sometime emotions just over-rule you. On second note, it's perfect time to sell if you are holding that particular asset.
1098  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Secure your crypto wealth by not having it all in crypto on: December 17, 2023, 12:52:23 PM
I wrote this in my notes app when I became aware of ledger library exploit. All this writing was spontaneous, and you should definitely heed it.

Crypto is wild west. Scams/hacks, all the new ways to get compromised never ceases to amaze me. Yet, it remains one of fastest way to build one's portfolio, once you have made enough, secure it, diversify in real estate, gold, etc.

You could having million dollars worth crypto in your wallet and next moment, puff it's gone.

Thank you.
1099  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: IMPORTANT: Ledger ConnectKit Library has been Compromised with a drainer. on: December 17, 2023, 12:43:36 PM
Why Ledger's hardware wallet came under scrutiny throughout the duration of the vulnerability was because many of their users connected to dapps directly using their ledger wallet and also because they could allow a past employee to still pose risks to their products in turn, affecting users.

Connecting ledger with dapps was mistake indeed, if people stop using their hardware wallets as hot wallets, they wouldn't fall victim to such exploits. Use hw like cold storage, send funds to other wallet to interact with dapps and you will be fine.

Couple weeks ago, I was wondering if I should stake crypto through ledger live, I got my answer with this hack.
1100  Local / India / Re: India cricket Discussion and predictions [self-mod] on: December 17, 2023, 12:35:39 PM
What happened today with South Africa? They didn't even reach a respectable score while batting first. I heard the commentators saying that South Africans were unable to asses the condition and took the bad decision of batting first. Can you imagine a home team unable to asses home condition. What a kind of excuse is that?

Even if you fail to assess condition, you can't fail like this. This was surprisingly pathetic performance. Aside from that, good knock from Sai Sudarshan, always felt since his ipl days he's good odi player, good at rotating strike, not aggressive.

They should accept it that the Indian bowlers were bowling the best line and length. Arshdeep Singh was the star of today's match. 5 wickets with the best of economy rate, India won the match by losing only 2 wickets in the 17th over.

I don't expect fifers every match, but he should be consistent in his performance.
