1101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [BFL splat from] Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 18, 2013, 07:41:35 PM
Can't imagine what it's like to be working there right now.
I kinda feel for the average BFL employee that probably had no idea what they were getting themselves into when they signed up.

Dealing with all that customer negativity and hatred - emotions that arose in paid customers that were entirely self-inflicted by the mfg. - on a daily basis is definitely NOT Chicken Soup for the Soul.  Tongue  Embarrassed
1102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [POLL] Sept. 2013 ASIC Miner Survey on: September 18, 2013, 07:36:32 PM
Still looking like the biggest group of voters are people waiting on the sidelines or just doing Buy & Hold.
1103  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why the Bitcoin community HAS to save the network from HashFast, CoinTerra, BFL. on: September 18, 2013, 06:44:50 AM
Approx. 28 posts & well over a day since OP visited this post. Hmm, one would think that one would tend better to one's launch thread if put in a similar position.  Undecided

Anyway, in the small hope that you guys are serious & not another person or group of persons trying to do a "pump & dump" type scheme, here's my credentials as a possible treasurer, besides reading through my first 2 Group Buy threads:

Approx. value of GBEC / GBC ASIC pre-order sales or pre-sales of shares on this (the GB) forum by DZ in last 5 weeks: $10.1-11.1K
Approx. value of DZ ebay sales (including 4 HF Baby Jet shares listed on ebay/BTC Talk GB forum & purchased on ebay worth $620) since Aug.1 : $3.3K
Approx. value of ASIC related hardware or services currently listed items on ebay by DZ: $30.5K, selling as a trusted intermediary
Several new GBCs and Bitcoin Miner Hosts vetted for free, and several scams pointed out on two BTC related forums.
-Data current as of 9/17/2013

I rest my case, your honor.  Grin I'd also tell you guys to chill the phuck out about possible libelous/defamatory statements about competitors. Fo' free.

Please see current voting in the previous post above to track how the share price/mfg. is being decided. We don't need to hurry, but if we intend to get a projected Dec. 2013 shipment with Bitmine, we're running out of time.

This truly isn't meant to pressure votes/sales but to point out reality because it don't give a <expletive of your choice> what we think about it, for some reason.

Great points Philip. Vote and concerns noted. Thanks for voting.

'Tis true we only have 1 rig if we push things too far & release all the magic smoke from our mysterious black box. Also, don't forget this unit is operating in firsttimeuser's house! I think his wife/GF and/or roommates will probably be a tad upset at us if our mysterious black box sets fire to the furniture or whatnot.

Besides: We all know what happens to mysterious black boxes once all the magic smoke comes out right?

Edit: I'm showing 3 votes on the poll, but I only have 1 official vote so far.
1106  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is anyone actually going to buy the 600 GH/s BFL unit after their customer serv? on: September 18, 2013, 03:41:50 AM
I nearly made a large investment in BFL equipment in April, thank god I didn't!
They were making the same claims then as they do now, faster then market hashing speeds, better manufactured products that wind up being duct taped together and arrive in your hands 1 year too late if at all.
For me they did the bare minimum to avoid legal issues by providing some units to a select few that praise the the product as superior even if it got here a bit late BFL then promise the super mining box as an upgrade for something the customer has not even received yet?!

I have allot more faith in companies like KnC, Hashfast and Cointerra to name a few but its a wait and see game.
One thing is for sure, all companies manufacturing ASIC chips and hardware up to now have had production problems, some just did a better job of dealing with those problems and communicating with there customers.

My man, as someone that sold 2 BFL pre-orders I would have been very sad for you if that occurred.

In the latest Custom Hardware poll I ran for September, with 162 votes registered, BFL still garnered more votes for September pre-orders than HashFast or Cointerra! [That or a a few BFL puppets voted just to troll our poll, eheh].

2 guesses as to which mfg. fared the worst in this latest poll?

New update that may have an effect on voting: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=296171.0

Cointerra is now taking Paypal/CC if we choose to go this route & payment method! That means a 3rd party chargeback is possible & we can get our BTC/money back if it all goes to hades. Thoughts? Anyone want to recast their vote?

BTW, current official voting (open poll doesn't count): 5 share votes for Bitmine, 1 for Cointerra (via PM)

34 votes pending or 16 more Bitmine weighted votes needed, whichever comes first. No pressure but: Voting needs a resolution before we all know how much we're paying per share and who we're ordering from.

15 GBC controlled votes are parked, or held in statis, until the end of voting with tiebreaker vote held by GBC, if necessary.

Please vote so we can get our order in ASAP and secure our place in the outbound Q for whatever miner we decide on.

I'm surprised at how quickly this Co-operative expanded. Thank you! Here's a summary of my GBC & GBEC services since August 15 (Aug. 1 for ebay sales):

Approx. value of GBEC / GBC ASIC pre-order sales or pre-sales of shares on this forum by DZ in last 5 weeks: $10.1-11.1K
Approx. value of DZ ebay sales (including 4 HF Baby Jet shares listed on ebay/BTC Talk GB forum & purchased on ebay worth $620) since Aug.1 : $3.3K
Approx. value of ASIC related hardware or services currently listed items on ebay by DZ: $30.5K, selling as a trusted intermediary

And we're closed again.

Whew! I'm gonna go take a break, give my fingers/eyes a rest, and get back to work on the spreadsheet in a bit. Hopefully, all the relevant changes have already been made as far as share ownership/ratio and voting rights for 13 shares.

Cheers everyone!

No worries Bob. I'll list the GB as OPEN for 1 share then.

FYI: however, that last share may be soon claimed by a gent w/ 1 share confirmed as reserved at the moment and interested in others.

BTW, an anonymous gent has already sent confirmed payment & has locked in 3 shares valued at up to ~$126 ea. Thank you! That was not necessary nor specifically asked for at this time, so thank you. Those 3 shares are now pre-paid.

Since I have what looks like 2 successful GBs under my belt (as far as acquisitions), and my GBEC services in place that allows me access to BTCrow as an affiliate, payment and shipping details should be handled much quicker once all funds are received or released (if held by BTCrow).

bobsag3 says PP2BTC for GB shares should be in place verrry shortly. Soon. He's going to do a good chunk of business from this service to the Custom Hardware and Group Buys forums IMHO.

I'll take the last 4 shares also, that should give me 7 total.   Smiley

You got it! Thank you! Welcome aboard for additional shares.  Grin

I'll update the spreadsheet shortly. Well, pending payments in the 48 hour window after share price/mfg. is finalized, for now...as we say in Hawaii...we're all PAU!

This GB is now CLOSED pending payments & voting in the next 2-3 days.

You can still shoot me a PM for a reservation for backup shares in case something happens as far as someone dropping out or if my online friend declines the invitation to join my Bitcoin miner co-op. You can also do a soft reservation for Round 3 if/when that occurs in a few weeks, if there's enough interest for another at-cost ASIC mfg. GB. [Do these 2 sentences even make sense 50 years ago?]

Thanks for pointing that out. It's two important details Commandermk mentioned right before Bob (sorry Bob): the operating temps and delivery window.

1. Any overclocker knows cooler is better, so if you start of w/ something that's designed to flush heat and/or generate less heat in the first place you have much, much better chances of overclocking in the first place, and being able to overclock somewhat aggressively if that's what the R2 Co-op members vote on. I told one potential miner client that my first overclock was a Celeron II overclocked 50% from 300 Mhz to 450Mhz, the first major CPU overclock from an Intel chip (man, I feel old saying that).

Fortunately, as far as our miner, bobsag3 has AC to spare & then some, so we should have a high upper limit to Overclocking on Round 2 if we vote on that.

2. Last I heard from Giorgio, it was starting to get into the Dec. 21 shipping date window if everyone had their BTC somehow ready to go. Keep in mind, delivery windows get shot to pieces when faced with the onslaught of actual X-mas deliveries. That Bitmine unit may slip shortly into the January timeframe in which it has to compete with the CTII.

I also have to point out that I expect that the somewhat high prices of the add on modules ($14-15K for 2TH/s) should go down in pricing as time goes on & ASIC hardware continues to ship to miners and prices inevitably decline elsewhere in the ASIC hardware marketplace.

I see 7 votes up on the poll (from who knows who), but that's more of a public temperature of the R2 GB, instead of actual votes.
==================

I have 6 confirmed votes out of 36 avail. for Bitmine (preferably a Rig, I believe) and no other confirmed votes so far. You can send me a PM or vote here publicly and feel free to state your reasons why without any fear of censure or derision.

==================

With that in mind: I'm reserving 1 more share for a newbie I befriended a few weeks back, to see if he or she feels like joining this GB. I may hold or return this share to the pool depending on what the newbie decides.

4 shares available out of 40!

Also, I'm just going to list my 2 shares I'm holding for myself as paid, as I have the funds already on the exchange where I'm holding the BTC shortly for this GB: http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll87/SurfSkateKauai/2days-496BTC.png

Also, a veteran user owes me 2 BTC in a gentleman's bet on Oct. 1st if BFL doesn't get to shipping July 6 pre-orders by that date thanks to me being a smarty pants & joking out loud and someone taking me serious on that "bet." Ouch.

Since this relates to your share price and related fees to secure your shares, the following msg. was from a PM I sent a co-op member re: USD/BTC ratio and curency. The anonymous gentleman was asking about which exchange I was using to value the USD to BTC ratio since I was pricing shares for my 2nd GB in USD instead of BTC (TL;DR: As a GBC, it doesn't matter to me!):

"Here's another nice thing about this USD/BTC GB share model I suppose I'm helping to pioneer: since it's priced in USD, you just need to make sure that as long as you have X amount of USD or your natl. equiv. (in the range of $100-138 avail. per share) to ensure that you're getting the best price possible on your GB shares at the exact time you're ready to apply PayPal or BTC funds towards a GB; thereby allaying worries/distrust about BTC volatility on the part of both the GBC *and* the buyer!

As a GBC, I don't have to care about the ever changing BTC/USD exchange rate and variability across exchanges because you the buyer just need to get BTC in the amount that's equivalent USD value of your share(s), *when* you're ready to purchase your share(s). Since you have Coinbase, you should only be charged a 1% fee for the currency exchange, which appears to be the lowest cost & fastest method to buy BTC from a reputable source.

A new model of GB share pricing and BTC volatility protection, for both buyers and sellers.

Just thought I'd offer this for anyone that wants to use this type of share pricing on future GBs. From a PM I sent to an anonymous gentleman asking about which exchange I was using to value the USD to BTC ratio since I was pricing shares for my 2nd GB in USD instead of BTC (TL;DR: As a GBC, BTC volatility doesn't matter to me for USD products!):

"Here's another nice thing about this USD/BTC GB share model I suppose I'm helping to pioneer: since it's priced in USD, you just need to make sure that as long as you have X amount of USD or your natl. equiv. By the way, 13 share votes have been ceded to me via PM. Thank you! I hope to make the best decisions possible with your votes, if they have to applied at the end of major votes. I now have the largest voting bloc of 15 votes out of 40, at the moment, but will vote last and try not to unduly favor one mfg. or decision over another.

These share owners/reservers are free to take back control of their votes anytime they want & have final approval on how votes are applied in major decision.

OT: your GBC is also currently hosting a $30K BFL rig auction on ebay from a forum member in Canada, and I have serious inquiries from miners looking for ultra low cost miner hosting. Nice!

You can vote via PM or public voting. You're free to state your case as to how much or how little overclocking we attempt.

We'll step up overclocking to check stability instead of taking huge jumps as far as clockspeed, whenever possible. You just need to vote before...gee, delivery in November, so there's no rush. Please vote or check in with your opinion whenever you have time. Cheers!
1116  Bitcoin / Group buys / [CLOSED*]R1B: HashFast Baby Jet Upgrade Promo - DZ MC Round 1. Batch 1. Mahalo! on: September 17, 2013, 09:24:29 PM
10/17 PM update:

Thank you to firsttimeuser and the rest of the co-op for keeping this upgrade promo alive!

I listed this as Closed with an asterisk because orig. R1 shares owners *still* can purchase their allotted R1B shares all the way up until the upgrade parts ship.

However, I think it's fair if you pay the R1B purchaser of your allotted share $2 extra because they basically loaned you your $43 share. This R1B upgrade for Batch 1 buyers is now complete and is in the official order chain! See page 4 for details.

====

I'm setting up a thread for open voting, and discussions on major decisions for HashFast Baby Jet owners from Round 1 of my first Group Buy. Thank you gentlemen! I truly wouldn't be here offering a 2nd Group Buy and GBEC services, if you guys hadn't believed in me in the first place. From the bottom of my heart: thank you. This is a continuation of DZ MC Round 1.

Next decision WRT to voting is: For the miner being hosted by firsttimeuser: How much overclocking are we going to do on our HashFast Baby Jet?

Current choices are:

- None
- 10%
- 20%
- 30%
- 30%+, We got water cooling and A/C, yo!

FWIW: my first major overclock was an Intel Celeron II OC'ed from 300 Mhz to 450 Mhz for a free 50% performance upgrade! FSB change from 66Mhz to 100Mhz & you were golden, back in the day. [Yup, my kids say I'm old]

Great points! For those wondering about Bitmine: when Bitmine announced their 28nm chip I was highly skeptical of their 6 month development time. Giorgio was upfront in the Custom Hardware about it & was a bit challenging/apologetic (quite a nice feat in the same sentence) about not having worked on it for 2 years like Simon Barber. Turns out they turned to experts on areas they were needed help: they partnered with InnoSilicon & Global Foundries.

Unlike scam sites however, if you check their website: everything that should be in place, is in place: SSL certification, appears to have IDs vetted by BTC payment agency, matching legit LinkedIn links from the two primary agencies at Bitmine from a mfg. that is shipping Avalon clones that don't need much mods (if any) to be able to run Gen2 ASIC chips.

Messages received from two new members. Awesome, we have two new co-op members! Thank you and welcome aboard!

One of the new members now has the largest voting power in the Round 2 Group Buy with 10 reservations. Thank you and welcome aboard!

Sorry if there was any confusion about payments. I had placeholder text in place because one co-op member is/was trying to me send me BTC just to get it taken care of.

11 more shares reserved!

5 (or less) shares available!

I have another PM from another gentleman interested in 1 or more shares I'm waiting to hear back from. So we have 5 GB shares available or less

Thank you! I'll mod the poll to mention Turbo mode. I had read this but assumed others would assume this as well from the Desk/Rig details. Bad assumption.

See: this is why we form co-operatives - several brains are usually better than one - unless you're talking about your average political body just about anywhere.  Cheesy

BTW, as the largest current shareholder/reserver if you made your vote public, that would represent 38-42% of the vote needed to pick a manufacturer, if you decided to go this route for your votes. It would also provide a strong public endorsement for your chosen mfg. by the largest early voting shareholder/reserver. Wink

With 24 shares currently in pending reservations, the winning manufacturer/offer would currently need 12-13 votes to guarantee a win for this 3rd vote in the DZ Miner's Cooperative. Welcome to a true representative democracy without all the lobbying, pork, and grandstanding.  Grin

4 more shares reserved via PM! Gracias and Welcome aboard!

This member also mentioned this as an alternative (I welcome any and all suggestions to improve our co-operative). PM from the new co-operative member:

"I like your style of leading GBs and this GB looks like good opportunity to invest with chance to get some profit.

I have one suggestion regarding mining device. Why don't you consider Bitmine CoinCraft Desk device to selection?

It is not so professional device, but it's cheaper then Bitmine CoinCraft Rig and still upgradeable to 1 TH/s in 200 GH/s steps.

For $4,379 you get 600 GH/s in normal mode (900 GH/s in turbo mode with higher power usage, which should be no problem with cheap electricity).

Thanks
