1121  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The possibility of bitcoin becoming a global currency. on: June 29, 2023, 01:53:55 AM
What exactly is a global currency? Does it mean the government uses them to keep their fiat afloat? I don't see them going that way. At least the majority of the government wouldn't bet on something as risky as Bitcoin as of now. Things might change if we reach the point where the Bitcoin price is stable and rarely move, years away from now.

Personally, as long as I can use Bitcoin to pay for stuff through the internet, that is good enough. It is definitely cheaper and more secure compared to other alternatives that I have right now.
1122  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are Bitcoin LN POS terminals the future of bitcoin payments? on: June 29, 2023, 01:27:39 AM
We're currently in an era when mixers are getting seized, and with tools like WasabiWallet filtering incoming transactions, shouldn't there be an open network that welcomes all UTXOs to enter, and makes them untraceable when they exit? Some users might find that useful.
CMIIW, I believe people can still use coinjoin without relying on Wasabi no? Although I don't think they are suitable for small payments unless the seller allows unconfirmed transactions to be accepted. I can see they sell this as a feature for their customers though.

My point was, under normal circumstances, many users don't mind waiting for their onchain transactions to confirm.
From OP's post, I'd assume we are talking about users who want fast payment confirmation. I don't think those who visit stores and buy stuff with Bitcoin would like to wait more than a few minutes just to get their payment confirmed by the seller.
1123  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Withdraw your funds from Gate.io on: June 28, 2023, 02:53:54 AM
But they send it to gate.io by mistake. Do you believe this?
Is this related to the insolvency rumors on Gate? How is it connected? Did Crypto help them alleviate some pressure or something similar? The last news about this rumor is related to the legal threat from Gate for those who spread the insolvency rumor. I've not seen any updates about that unless most of them happened on Twitter. I'd still avoid using Gate even if the rumor was false though.
1124  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 2 in 1 question about mining and operate a crypto wallet. on: June 28, 2023, 01:33:54 AM
Also is public wifi the only unsafe practice there is? Because that's why I found online, I just want to make sure that me using a router is safe.
I mean if you use a weak password on your private Wi-Fi, it would still be risky as hell. Public Wi-Fi is more likely to be targeted so it is obvious why you should not rely on them if you want secure internet access. On top of that you can't really modify the settings and the host might run some terrible set-ups or run them with malicious intentions.

I guess you can list your router configurations or product model if you want a detailed guide on how to set it up properly (or if there is a better product for your purpose). As an alternative, you can just disable the Wi-Fi and just connect your RIG through LAN. CMIIW.
1125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your first purchase in btc: the craziest, the most moving, the most expensive on: June 28, 2023, 01:15:45 AM
My first ever purchase with Bitcoin is related to online services (VPN and stuff like that). It was really cheap compared to other options I had back then. After that though, I buy some other things like gadgets, TV, and so on. The most impactful purchase is definitely my laptop. It allows me to work more efficiently, with lower electricity consumption and allows me to venture into content creation and stuff like that.

I had charged a friend's phone plan with the maximum, 20 dollars, the equivalent of a monthly salary in his country.
20 dollars for a month as a standard salary is very low, isn't it? Hopefully, your friend will find better opportunities soon and earn a lot more than that.
1126  Local / Marketplace (Bahasa Indonesia) / Re: [Gratis] Jasa Konsultasi Spek Komputer (PC & Laptop) + Diskusi on: June 28, 2023, 12:53:15 AM
Ga salah gan harga 5600 ama 5800X3D selisih di 1 jutaan???
5600 itu 1,87 jt https://tokopedia.link/015aooq8XAb
5800X3D itu 5,38 jt https://tokopedia.link/015aooq8XAb
Woiya salah lihat. Yang ane lihat 5800X biasa ternyata. Selisihnya jauh banget ternyata haha.

1127  Local / Mining (Bahasa Indonesia) / Re: Cara Perawatan (Maintenance) Laptop yang Telah Melakukan Penambangan on: June 27, 2023, 02:46:30 AM

Coba agan cari tentang permission blockchain.

CMIIW.
1130  Local / Marketplace (Bahasa Indonesia) / Re: [Gratis] Jasa Konsultasi Spek Komputer (PC & Laptop) + Diskusi on: June 27, 2023, 01:55:08 AM
* CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
CMIIW.
1131  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Supreme Court Ruled in Favor of Coinbase on: June 27, 2023, 01:38:02 AM
One good example is how some naive people think that if they lose funds they kept in centralized exchanges, that the exchange is always going to give them a refund, to imagine that people think this way shows that they do not read terms of service before use.
It is kinda unfortunate but most people don't read ToS to begin with. Companies have no incentive to make their articles easier to read either since most people don't really argue the ToS before they sign it. Even if some cases blow up and lead to their 'disgusting ToS' being exposed, I bet their profit outweighs the cost at least in the short term.

But their current case involved is really big and we know how lunatic Gensler is.
I've been seeing so much news in the last few months related to his SEC position. If he can stay in his position even after so many people suggest removing him, it would be surprising.
1132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost coins redistribution on: June 24, 2023, 02:04:28 AM
In time we will have fewer and fewer bitcoins, currently it is thought 3-4 million bitcoins are already lost. This makes me sad.
Why though? It is not like people must spend 1 BTC to make one transaction. I would not be surprised if 100 sat is worth $100 or something in the future if Bitcoin continues to be valuable. While it can happen, I doubt the BTC price will continue to increase that 10 sat or so is no longer affordable for small payments/transactions. Even if it does happen, we'll probably see many layer-2 solutions or something similar at that point in time.

So maybe we can propose like creating a new cryptocurrency or a token corresponding to the number of BTC presumed to have been lost already
That's basically creating an altcoin IMO.
1133  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's get rid of all regulations, what can possibly go wrong on: June 24, 2023, 01:51:11 AM
This should be a cautionary tale to people who dream about society without government and its regulations. Imagine if someone makes an "experimental and innovative" nuclear reactor that explodes and gives radiation sickness + cancer to hundreds of thousands. Or someone makes an "experimental and innovative" dam that collapses and floods houses. Invisible hand of the market won't be able to undo the damage or prevent it in the future from repeating again.
I think most people are fine with regulations as long as it is reasonable. The problem is that the one who runs the system can't be trusted, which is hard to solve since you can't simply tell everyone to "try to participate in governance then".

If this point is being connected with cryptocurrencies, such as exchange and whatnot, the problem is not really similar since the stakes are different. As far as I'm aware, nobody died when they don't submit KYC and don't want to do it, just facing some inconveniences. If we really want to force the invisible hand term into this discussion, then some might argue that the stock price of such a company can get slashed if the public found out that the CEO and its staff are a bunch of idiots. CMIIW.

A lot of cases related to exchange insolvency also give us some distrust in how people run these exchanges, or how the government handles the case. The debate about SEC being so unclear with their rules and how they go after exchanges is quite popular on social media afaik.

Hopefully, nothing like this will happen in the future.
1134  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance to integrate lightning network on: June 24, 2023, 01:18:20 AM
It won't because they can simply perform a hard fork and restart the network by deleting the malicious validator.
At the very least there would be some discussion about it. Seeing how they fail to obtain licenses left and right lately, things like that might become additional problems that can snowball and affect their reputation. But yeah, we'll see when it does happen.

I went to Binance academic to find out about the risks and they didn't mention much:
That is not surprising. It is obviously against their interest to explicitly mention the risk of wrapped tokens. People should look at other sources if they want a better comparison since some academy or learning resources might be skewed if they are owned by exchange or other crypto services.
1135  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Promotion methods. Dark & Bitcointalk? on: June 24, 2023, 12:45:19 AM
We are also interested in why Bitcoin mixers are advertised here and not on the dark web.
How did you know this? Is this an assumption or have you interviewed some mixers here? I think the best place to ask this question would be their ANN thread. Most mixers are quite active and respond in a timely manner whenever there is a question about their service.

Most of them are using the signature campaign to promote their services, sometimes review campaigns or some avatar/design contest. I think a review campaign and signature campaign might suit your purpose. Social media promotion is not really worth the time from the participant's perspective which is why you'll likely attract spammers if you do it.
1136  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Btc accelerator sites on: June 24, 2023, 12:27:48 AM
RBF may not be an acceptable solution for some points of sale,
RBF is an acceptable solution in absolutely every case. If you already sent transaction with high fee and it's not getting confirmed, that only means that your fee isn't high enough to get tx confirmed and RBF gives you the possibility to solve that case.
I think he's referring to how some services don't accept RBF transactions to prevent double-spending scams. I do know some services that do that, it's not that rare as far as I'm aware. The easiest solution in a case like that would be to look for other services that accept RBF or be prepared to make CPFP if there is no other alternative. CMIIW.
1137  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance to integrate lightning network on: June 23, 2023, 03:51:43 AM
I have noticed Binance doing this manipulation since, not only for bitcoin but also for altcoins. Let me give you an example, as you can see in this image for filecoin withdrawal:
They really want those fees huh. I guess they will somehow turn their lightning integration to promote BSC even further by introducing an LN fork for BSC, for example. From a business perspective, they're being really aggressive to encourage users to use their network. Would be funny if it backfires because one of their validators got exploited or fail later on.

I have withdrawn filecoin before in the past and the withdrawal time is very fast within seconds. I am wondering why the need for those altcoins with cheaper fee to be tokenized on other blockchain like BSC because they have faster withdrawal time.
They should educate people more about wrapped tokens if they wanted to do it this way. It is really irresponsible for them to encourage the usage of wrapped tokens without telling people that those are not the same as the mainnet coin. It doesn't really get better since more and more developers are encouraging this kind of practice to get better liquidity.
1138  Economy / Economics / Re: Connect data to accelerate cashless payments on: June 23, 2023, 03:00:38 AM
Personally, I see a threat to personal security in the case of global digitalization. Data can always be available to criminals. They will know your income and plan their actions accordingly (blackmail, extortion, fraud will increase significantly). So I wouldn't get excited about the world being completely covered by cashless payments. There is always a fly in the honey.
If you're referring to a database leak, something like that will happen regardless of the payment method you use. It is inevitable if you use a centralized service. Fortunately, it is easy to avoid if you're willing to use other alternatives, especially in regard to crypto trading/payment activity IMO. On the other hand, as long as you have a decent understanding of how scammers work you can avoid their trap. The worst thing is if the leak includes sensitive data like username, password, pin, etc. Hopefully, no company is stupid enough to keep those things in plaintext or use weak encryption to store them in the future.

So I expect such things that one day we will see that even Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies accept payment options in their products that are sold for sure in the future.
We can already use them though, unless you mean locally.
1139  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anti fraud / scam tools for Bitcoin on: June 23, 2023, 02:25:07 AM
The analogy I could use is that of police dogs trained to sniff out drugs. They undergo training where they're conditioned to recognize certain smells and situations. Then, when they're used in the field, they've developed the ability to identify new situations they've never encountered before. Machine Learning works in the same way. We've trained our electronic "sniffer" using a database from elliptic.co and bitcoinabuse.
Dog training is known for way longer, and the trainer can explain the way they train it as far as I'm aware. I don't think you can say the same thing if you just say "our machine learning works by reading some data" without adding some context. For example, giving reasons why the number X or Y is safe, and which transaction is considered suspicious, and so on. I do think there is a formula or algorithm at play even if you use AI. The basic one would be "transaction linked to previously known scammer address is likely to be a scammer", or something similar. CMIIW.
1140  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How is Cryptocurrency Taxed? Here’s a Detailed Guide on: June 23, 2023, 02:06:29 AM
According to Snowden, such backdoors existed more than 10 years ago. And changing the cryptocurrency control software on the phone of any user is not difficult.
People often neglect security for the sake of convenience. Phone and exchanges are convenient, so they store their cryptocurrencies there.
Yeah, that's the unfortunate thing. Most people value convenience more than security until something terrible happened to them. Some companies also don't help at all by releasing products that value convenience more than security.

I wonder how they will use that kind of backdoors openly. If tax collection is their purpose, maybe they will use this backdoor to spy and then send notices instead of stealing them directly.
