Hallo,

1187  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Category for Female Bitcoiners on: November 17, 2013, 01:21:59 AM

Flower - Perhaps, I'm not invalidating your position but why not have the area and leave it up to those who choose to participate or not. Or are you suggesting the Olympics should do away with gender distinction and just have all-in competition in each category?

there are other ways for different categories in sport. eg weight. and yes: if women REALLY want to be treated equal there is no room for gender distinction.

Sometimes gender distinctions exist for a good reason, in athletics it's there to allow for a level playing field and I'm suggesting it should be no different for Bitcoin discussions. Besides, having a subforum doesn't stop women from participating in any other forum does it?

my problem with this is, that you hear quite often people arguing pro "special women treatment". but this is not equal treatment. there comes my men-only-category argument. if men have also their own category it would be equal.

but...why do you even think women need their own room? men can come read and write: so its not a closed audience (this would practically be impossible - even with id scans). if its just to promote women-specific serices it could be a sub category under services (i'd still prefer to have categories per product and not per gender though).

so please tell me:
 - Why do you think women would be attracted to bitcointalk by their own category?
 - What (and why) would they post there, which they could not post anywhere else?
1188  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Category for Female Bitcoiners on: November 17, 2013, 12:31:32 AM
for me an own forum category for women is the opposit of emancipation.
women are people, men are people

people meet here to talk about money. i dont care about the gender at all
1189  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Category for Female Bitcoiners on: November 17, 2013, 12:28:03 AM
I want a forum category for men then...
With Poker and Hookers Wink

seriously: we dont need it.
1190  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Are miner pool thieving away? on: November 16, 2013, 11:18:11 PM
Why would they interfere? That's only superstition.

The chance that a proof of work (aka share) mined at difficulty 1 will produce a block is 1 divided by the difficulty.

So your hashrate determines how many lottery tickets you get, and the difficulty determines how likely each lottery ticket is to win. That's all there is.

please note that as soon as a block is found all old tickets are thrown away and new are printed Wink

Well no tickets are thrown away as soon as they don't win.

Hash = losing ticket
Next hash = losing ticket
Next hash = losing ticket
.....
1 hash or quadrillions of hashes later
.....
Next hash = winning ticket.  Block solved.

you are right.. i forgot that for every share the odds are exactly equal

It would be good to be able to allow people to play multiple odds per roll, with a few preset combinations, and the option to build your own as well.

+1

1194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trade big volume of the blockchain for ... on: November 12, 2013, 10:54:59 PM
The life is full of trade-offs:
- Risk VS Reward
- Image compression level VS Image quality
- Confirmation time VS Transaction security

The blockchain keeps growing but can we "trade" its big volume for anything else? Storage usually can be substituted by extra computations, but the blockchain can't be compressed well. Any ideas WHAT the bloated blockchain can be paired with?

maybe redundancy, decentralisation and reliability
