It seems to me like there should be some code in the bitcoin network itself with logic than can have a rough idea of the number/size of outstanding transactions and then require blocks to contain a certain number/size/percentage-of-total-block-size of outstanding tx.  I agree that it's a fundamental issue.
1182  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Setting up new diff thread Dec 6 to Dec 20 picks closed. on: December 08, 2015, 07:14:49 PM
Order's like that on S7's and Avalon 6's could keep us at these high difficulty's.  I hope we lower it some, but I think what I wish and what happens are two different things.

Also price around 395ish most of day so pretty stable. But we just can't break that 400.   Once we do I think it will be interesting how fast it goes up.

High price, efficient gear coming out, and cooler temps for a majority of the mining population equate to high difficulties for the whole winter I think.  This thing is going to keep climbing 'til the halving, because of the factors mentioned and probably because a lot of people are going to be in a push for the 25btc block reward while it exists.
1183  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] HaoBTC, mining dividend paid out hourly on: December 08, 2015, 07:11:14 PM
Probably to HalleyBTC at 17% and Hashnest Pacmic at 12% (this is the figure I ve read on their thread).

Do either of those companies have a thread that is months long with extensive photos documenting their facilities and operations?

I like my coin to be somewhere I can trust.  Yes, I know the "t" word is dangerous in this environment, but HaoBTC has to be one of the most forthcoming companies out there that offer an interest earning wallet.
1184  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: December 08, 2015, 07:06:11 PM

this last pic is SO WRONG ...it is so mesmerizing thou...it just wants to suck me in....(must resist argh....) it is a CHAOS TALISMAN
of some type....LOOK AWAY.....(it burns my eyes....)

A chaos talisman, I love it, lol!  I though the same thing when I saw that pict, it's like a little ball of wires that somehow mines.  GOT WIRES?  Grin

I dig the "thing" to power the 3 S7s, but shouldn't you cover up that copper bus bar to prevent accidental electrocution?  Looks terrifying!  I hope you don't have a cat...
1185  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 5.4.1: GBT+Stratum, RPC, Mac/Linux/Win64, Antminer S1-S5, Block v4 solo on: December 07, 2015, 07:25:26 PM
I did however just get in a Bitmain Antminer U3.

You should try the U3 support thread, probably get more advice there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=827356.0

But general consensus is the U3 is a terrible miner and you may or may not be able to get it to work, everyone has different results.  The best advice for the U3 is to by an R1 from ASICpuppy with custom firmware and let it control the U3.
1186  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Setting up new diff thread Dec 6 to Dec 20 picks closed. on: December 07, 2015, 07:19:45 PM
I can't believe the amount of hardware coming online, it's amazing.  I expected one large-ish jump but we've had several now and there's no immediate sign of slowing down.

Early spring will be very interesting to see if we are at the 100G diff threshold and on the cusp of the halving, I can't wait to watch that roller coaster.
1187  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: December 07, 2015, 07:08:24 PM
I like the target of around 500W, it's definitely usable in most home environments at that power consumption.  3-400W would be more something I would like to see given the electricity rates I'm faced with, but being able to crank it up/down gives a lot of flexibility and is gives us end users something to tinker with.
1188  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee anonymous solo bitcoin mining 132 blocks solved! on: December 06, 2015, 01:35:55 PM
It's also worth noting that on this last block solved (386774), solo produced a massive block of 974.8 kB even though there were 4 blocks solved in the 10 minutes previously with only 715.6 kB, 332.7 kB, 126.9 kB and 193.4 kB each.

The recent push with hardware is efficiency - efficiency, efficiency, efficiency; that's the big headline with any new chip or miner that hits the scene.  But look at what efficient software can do, too.  It maximized the effectiveness of the hardware.  Imagine how much more efficient the network would be if every pool took more time to pay this type of attention to their code.
1189  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: December 05, 2015, 01:52:50 AM
because it does not matter which stick I try (it is a different one each time), but tend to be one of the latter slots (CBMs).
Could the hub be running out of power, like it can't supply enough to the last stick so the stick generate HW errors? You would expect this if the voltage wasn't turn up enough on the stick, but since it's a different stick dependent on how many other sticks are ahead of it then it might be the hub.
1190  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: December 04, 2015, 08:37:17 AM
for BFGminer:

--set compac:clock=*** (decimal, not hex)

you can fine tune them by:
- setting them at the frequency you want to achieve (assuming your hub port can deliver the W)
- setting core V until you get no HW error using the "screw pod"

coming back to this command-I tried to use it, but compacs don't initialize (say DEAD in red/yellow) when I set it at 180, although I waited just 30 sec.
I think the default is 150, right? With wiper at ~ 600-650mV (flat at 4pm), what would be a good starting frequency?

Default is 225, the compacs will run at that freq if you do not include any command, but the frequency setting shouldn't have any effect on bfg reporting your compacs as DEAD.  You may have other issues.

Your freq should be set based on the available amperage to your stick.  I think 250 is right around 0.9A, so good for a usb3 port.
1191  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: December 04, 2015, 08:32:31 AM
I think we can read into that no more U3's... which hopefully means one day U4's possibly.. we can hope at least.
Would you really buy a U4?  I wouldn't, not after what a mess the U3 was/has been.  It's only now that I have the R1 controlling it that I have started to enjoy using it, I don't think I would trust another pod usb miner from Bitmain.

Now if they develop a U4/U5 with a built in controller a la the R1 I may be interested, but a stand alone U3 update?  No thank you.
1192  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Nov 23 to Dec 7 Set up stage- Picks CLOSED! on: December 04, 2015, 08:29:26 AM
Today I was watching cgminer and saw two blocks get solved with less that a minute between them, then one more a couple minutes later.   Crazy how fast they come sometimes.

My 9.9% is looking like a contender so far...
1193  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: December 04, 2015, 06:17:48 AM
Anything REALLY super cheap I could buy so I'm not so pathetic?!

You could buy a gekko compac stick for $25 and get like 10x the hash vs. that little usb stick you have.  Still effectively 0 chance at solving a block, but a fun thing to mess around with.
1194  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nov 11 to Dec 11 SIDEHACK compac stick pool club. New run. on: December 03, 2015, 11:02:42 PM
It's 100% chance/luck, there is no correlation.

More sticks = more hash = more chances at a higher share.
1195  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: ASICPuppy.net - COMPAC ($34.99) - R1 ($49.99) ANTMINER U3 ($44.99) on: December 03, 2015, 06:52:45 PM
I unplug/re-plugged the U3 and it came back to life, no clue why it stopped but it all appears ok now.

Actually better than ok, my U3 runs about 5GH/s faster being controlled by the R1 with the same freq/volt settings I was using previous.  Then factor in the 5GH/s I'm getting from the R1 itself and that's like a "free" 10GH/s upgrade to the U3.  The errors on this U3 are always around 5%, but for a long time last night they were just about 1% which I had never seen them so low before, so I'll credit the R1 with that, too.  Bitmain should have marketed the R1 as a U3 controller first, they may have sold one to every U3 owner on the planet!  I don't think I'll make use of its other functions, but as a U3 controller I'm really digging it.

One more question/suggestion for addition to your custom firmware (besides opening port 4029 as I posted above) - why isn't 250 included in the frequency drop down?  That's the max freq supported by the U3 and it seems to me that it should be a valid selection.  Also, 225 is the default, not 206.25.  There's really no reason to include the frequencies below 225, no one underclocks these and there's no reason for them.

225, 237.5, 243.75, 250 should be the frequency choices.

Thanks!
1196  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2900 TH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: December 03, 2015, 06:40:23 PM
Uhmmm...THERE'S Your BACK..2..Back!!! Cheesy
That's a sure fire way to avoid an orphan, solve the very next block and included the previous solve in it!  Well done, kano.is!

Don't understand though why someone that HUGE would even use a pool at all..
Bitmain uses a pool and look how HUGE they are.  Pools reduce variance, it almost always makes more financial sense to mine in a pool.
1197  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo Mining on an S3 with 51.1 Difficulty - here we go! UPDATE: Block Found!! on: December 03, 2015, 06:24:53 PM
Not too shabby considering one of his chips is wonky and X's out after about 10 minutes.

Try powering it off for 5 minutes and then firing it up again.  Sometimes I get an X and this always has cleared it up.
1198  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] HaoBTC, mining dividend paid out hourly on: December 03, 2015, 06:21:49 PM
Thanks for the clarification, Eric.

Does that mean you will be unable to withdraw interest earned for a month until a month has passed?  Not sure if I understand that right.

Yes. After you save the money for a whole months, and withdraw, you can get the interest. Otherwise, you will lose the interest. For example, if you deposit on 6 of July, and withdraw on 6 of October, you will get 4 months interest. If you withdraw on 4 Oct, you will lose 29 days interest and get only 3 month interest.
Zocadas, you posted incorrect information.  Eric answered this exact question 7 posts earlier.

you will still get the interest for the 29 days but you won't be able to see it until on the 30th or 31st.

You only "lose interest" on the high yield account if you withdraw early, the other account still accrues interest hourly, it's just how it is reported on the website that has changed.
1199  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: December 03, 2015, 06:19:01 PM
I'm a bit wary of putting 2 face to face on the heatsink as it'll create a double hotspot where the 2 chips are in contact, but on the other hand it's quite big and will be well cooled with 2 fans. (push/pull, 1 fan at each end of the heatsink)

What are you hoping to accomplish with this?  If it's additional cooling beyond the stock heat sink then I think having the chips back to back is not a good idea.  Stagger them each side so the chips aren't right against each other.
1200  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: December 03, 2015, 06:16:37 PM
is it possible to have 2 gekko sticks mining in 2 different pools using just one raspberry pi with bfgminer?

I know how to do it with cgminer, you run two instances of cg and in each batch file you use --usb :1 which means that instance of cgminer will only use 1 usb device and not look for others, then you configure each instance to point 1 stick to the pool you want.

I don't see a similar command for bfg, so you probably have to do load balancing and send 1/2 the hash to one pool and 1/2 to another.
