Thanx for the gr8 reponses to my post.

I never nkew how fast these cards are for mining esp when unlocked.

Question is finding the cheapest 1 in UK as they're pricier than in the US but would customs tax takeaway hte savings I'd make by buying it from US or not.

If you can help me find cheapest one thats whether its new in Uk or used on Ebay thats working I can save quite a bit.

That's be gr8

Thank you  Smiley

If u can accept payments via moneybokers,I'll b happy to bid as well.

Whats the last bid?

when does auction end?

I love this idea.I hope to create an "eco-generator" which consists of battery banks, solar, wind turbine plus a diesel backup generator run on used veg oil (as there's no way I'm payin 4 diesel)

I duno how I'm gonna go about it but it'll b complex I think as this intergrates a switcher between solar, wind and a diesel generator to charge the battery banks which then go through an inverter to run my gear.

I design these systems for a living. I would trade my services for btc. Cheesy
Does this include designing and helping me make blue prints if needed?
1264  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New BitCoin Project? on: June 16, 2011, 11:10:48 PM
I'm working on a new Windows & OS X miner.  The goal is to provide a user friendly miner for people new to bitcoin, that can be installed and run on either platform without a problem. I'd appreciate some help, it's not an easy project.

I may b able to help with GUI design ideas if needed.just PM me or make a request here for my ideas then.

So far:
I think a tabbed approach culd be beneficial as both platforms can display this without issue instead of goig to preferences on hte mac or settings on PC.Perhaps we should try to maintain familiarity in the GUI part on both systems that way setup and walkthroughs would be much easier and quicker to setup.

If I think of ny more I'll tell ya.

So this project is pretty much now cancelled then? It was a promising project as well.
1266  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU advice on: June 16, 2011, 11:02:47 PM
Hi every1,
I need advice on about 3 things:
1.How can I overclock my radeon Hd4670 beyond the maximum limits that catalyst imposes on me? (to avoid getting a new GPU 4 a while n getting the most from my current GPU til it burns out probably from heavy OC'ing)
MSI afterburner
2.If I have to get a new GPU (because I can't eek out ny more performance from HD4670 GPU) to improve my chances of mining successfully, what card would be:
a.The best bang per buck?
OR
b.which GPU is best in hte 6000 series for this?As I need to watch Power consumption (due to high rate elec) as well as best performance for a price point (I'll see how that goes b4 acting on that advice).Noise, power consumption and best performance per buck are issues 4 me as well.
HD6870 or HD 5830! Not necessarily in that order!
3.If I do go for a meatier GPU,what's the fastest 1 I can use with my current PSU (Enermax 620W Liberty) due to possible +12V amp line issues or overloading that PSU due to the GPU drawing too much watts or amps from the 2 +12V lines.
HD6990 or HD5970

Each line is 22A and it says on the PSU that maximum combined Amps (from both rails) is 36Amps.is this a lot?or is this rather weak nowadays?
It will run any one, and probably any 2 single GPU cards
The other parts of the system the PSU runs is a core i7 920 @2.67ghz stock (3ghz OC'd),6 GB ram,3 HDDs (2 SATAIIs and 1xIDE which will be replaced at some point),DVD writer (multi-format),my current GPU is Radeon HD4670 OC'd to hte max @ 778mhz clock and 1140mhz mem clock.
While mining, you can lower CPU, And RAM clocks, in turn lowering voltages, to keep maximum power to your GPU(s)
ny help would be rly appreciated guys. Smiley
In Red above!

To use MSI AB, download it here! http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fevent.msi.com%2Fvga%2Fafterburner%2Fdownload.htm&rct=j&q=msi%20afterburner&ei=hoX6TZGxL6ay0AGiiKGuAw&usg=AFQjCNE6etnOx2WO_lKQEEovPvm02ntt4g&cad=rja

Launch AB, then close it! Navigate to the install directory, and find the .cfg file, and open in notepad. scroll to the bottom and change
"unofficial OCing" to 1 (this may or may not be present! Only change if present)
"unofficial OC mode"  to 2
Then copy/paste this to the "unofficial OC EULA: I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

That's quite helpful Ryn :-)

1269  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I know nothing about Linux but don't be a dick to me on: June 16, 2011, 07:21:29 PM
This reminds me of an idea I had once, but cus I kno very little about linux,I can't pull it off.

If a more experienced linux user can help to create a customised iso of a linux distro for me, that has bitcoin installed and setup so that when I format a USB stick and boot from it,i can finally unplug all my HDD/DVD writer to reduce power consumption and reduce the strain on my PSU by not running unnecessary drives when mining.

I am currently doing experiments with BTC that concern trying to get the very best from a old card (Radeon HD 4670) that has been overclocked to the max but I wonder how i can overclock more than what Catalyst allows me to on that card. How can I do this?

I can't yet add an SSD due to budget issues.current 'budget' SSDs seem to have problems and very small capacity (I need about 128GB+ SSD as my win 7 x64 install is now too big 2 fit onto an 80GB SSD)

so I'm using a USB stick instead as they use virtually no power in my case (too small to measure on the watt meter)

1270  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: One fast or Multiple slower GPUS? on: June 16, 2011, 11:18:11 AM
One fast or Multiple slower GPUS?

At this difficulty? There's is the only answer: MULTIPLE FAST GPUS!

 Wink

yep,It looks like mining rly is a job for multiple fast GPUs.

Also how often does the difficulty change?and why?

And how does changing difficulty affect the results I get?

I'd love 2 kno y sum ppl prefer multiple budget GPUs even tho they're not rly up to the job in the 1st place.I can only use 1 fast GPU due to PSU.Also the PSu means that I can only moderately OC it when I do get it.

Hi guys,
As I was thinking of upgrading my GPU to the 6950 at some point (unless I;m told ny different),I'd b interested in how this card performs and how many Mhash/s this gives u and whether OC'ing is necessary (or how well n how far can u OC this card)

So gd luck 4 u in getting it up n running Smiley
1272  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: One fast or Multiple slower GPUS? on: June 16, 2011, 10:46:50 AM
Hello,

Somewhere on the forums I red that its better to have a fast GPU instead of multiple slower ones.
So the statement is as following:
You can solve blocks faster with one expensive fast GPU then with 2 slower budget GPU's while your still having the same ammount of Mhash/s?

Is anything of this true?

I think that there is some grain of truth in this because of the following reasons:
1.It can be more energy efficient to run 1 super fast GPU (even if it's insanely OC'd) than running multiple slower GPUS's because a PSU can only run so many GPUS reliably without going upo in smoke or just stop working due to overloading of hte 12V rails by having several smaller GPUs rather than 1 fast one.E.g,If I put 3 HD4670 GPUS and each GPU draws 26Amps from my PSU and the PSU can only support 36Amps (when combined with 2 12V rails),the PSU would overload and fail, whereas putting in 1 meatier GPU like I dunno a Hd 5850,then I can get much more performance from the fast GPU than i ever would have by having 3 slower GPUs at the same time without risking my PSU

2.some mobos only have 2 or so PCI-E x16 slots so some cards can't be physically inside ur system due to not enough slots to put them in.

This is just my opinion on why I think it's better to have 1 fast GPU rather than 3 slower ones.I hope this helps you.If I'm wrong or missed nything out then plz feel free to add to this topic.

ny1,if my tips have helped u in nyway and u wish 2 donate, then donate some BTC here:1LPAMjHxEeu1mkixsmFoFSoMigdxhsTw1s plz, thank you.

1274  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Please contribute your Power Consumption and average hash rate on: June 15, 2011, 05:41:30 PM
better get a new gpu fast, because your old one will take you nowhere (except you have a ton of luck Smiley )

until then, why not join one of the pools, so you get at least some small amount of btc?
The GPU I planned to upgrade to is hte Radeon HD 6950 (due to good performance and tweaking ability)

The last thing 4 me to resolve is how my PSU can handle it.
It's an Enermax 620W Liberty series (I got this in 2007 and has survived several builds)

can I run hte HD 6950 on that PSU or will the draw of amps on +12V line be too much for my PSu 2 handle?

Pc specs;
Core i7 920 2.67 stock (3Ghz when OC'd)
6 GB RAM
Radeon HD 4670 (currently)
Mobo Asus P6T-SE
Enermax 620W Liberty PSU
80GB HDD SATAII
750GB HDD SATAII (upgrade to 2TB or 3TB planned)
300GB IDE HDD.(This will be replaced as well as soon as it gives out)

How much faster will a 6950 be ompared to a 4670? if it takes 3.2yrs (or never) on a 4670 then how long can I expect before getting my 50BTC on the 6950 GPU (Overclocked will be quicker of course)

also thanx 4 the helpful replies about my current card and process of BTC mining.
1275  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Please contribute your Power Consumption and average hash rate on: June 15, 2011, 03:39:48 PM
Is this total cunsumption for my entire Pc or ust my GPU only?

My GPU is ATI Radeon HD4670.
Stock speeds are:
750MHZ clock
1000MHZ mem clock

Overclocked to the max
778MHZ clock via catalyst (as it wont go ny higher)
1140MHZ mem clock

I get a avg hash rate of 36.5 MHash/s
My power use (of GPU) is ~70W max due to Overclocking (it's 59W at load, non OC)

I don't know how long this will take me before I get my first 50BTC,as I've used the mining calcs (both 50% and 95%) but i can't understand the resuts so if ny1 has more experience with this, can u plz tell me inhours,days,e.t.c when this will happen on my card.Am thinking of upgrading GPU at sum point.

Is this a safe app?as in no malware, trick, wallet cloning or data theft of ny kind?
Does this absolutely require no spending of ny currency or no info like email address required?
Can I use this without giving up ny of my info?

If u guys can check this 4 me as I need 2 keep my MBP (my personal 'work' laptop) and PC clear of ny iffy apps (if thats the case with this) then it'll help me a lot.

I want to be allowed back onto the other forums as normal as I've commited no crime or offense on here yet I found my self stuck to the newbies forum. You can see from my posts that I'm not a spammer and I feel I'm a victim of an unjust policy.I only expect ppl to be blacklisted if they've done something wrong as opposed to preventing them by chance.

UPDATE:Guys,it looks like my problem is fixed now and can access all other forums without issue for some areas so far.
