Can charities donate some hash power for a day to help people with experiments, maybe? Just curious :-)
1062  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchange accidentally sent 512 bitcoins after coding error on: September 07, 2011, 08:46:12 PM
Talk about a very profitable error to the (unintended) recipient :-)

If I felt sorry for the guy,I'd give the money back.If I think the guy's an idiot (like has a history of scamming/losing peoples money with poor quality code),then I'll keep it and he'll learn his lesson (sorry if that sounds unfair, but that's real life.People who do nothing wrong should definatly get the money back if it's a coding error though.I'll reserve the attitude for the scammers who deserve it)

Bankers profit all the time with bank errors, why shouldn't we? It's their fault we're in this mess.

If you don't like my opinion, then don't flame me,just say why not.
1063  Economy / Services / Re: Shades Minoco - A different type of mining company on: September 07, 2011, 12:55:43 PM
Are the 6 mth 2GHash/s contracts still available? What payment methods can you take?At present I can do moneybookers (for security reasosns),however I am open to negotiation (as long as it's not PayPal) on payment methods.

Is is possible to offer 4GHash/s for 3 months for me if needed?

Thanks
1064  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: NEW ATI 7000 architecture info on: September 07, 2011, 11:53:26 AM
I like what I'm seeing with those HD79xx cards.Lower energy use and possibly higher performance. My HD6950 card uses ~220Ws at full load (mining) due to shader unlock (which is unnecessary with those cards as they have the right no of shaders to begin with afaics) as well as slightly overvolted (by 0.005V increase) and heavily OC'd (902MHz core clock,320MHZ mem clock for stability and performance). These changes give me ~405MHash/s. I wish I could OC my MBPs GPU and underclock it's CPU to reduce power use and heat issues. Is there a tool that works for OC'ing a MBP GPU?

Thanks

I like the sound of that HD6990 card. They're sold out in UK at the moment. Can you ship to UK? What Mhash/s can I expect from that card from your experience?
1066  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's causing BTC price to dip below $7? (Answer inside) on: September 06, 2011, 09:10:56 AM
If a currency is backed by nothing, then theoretically any rumours or good/bad news will affect bitcoin's value as it's not backed by anything physical like gold, silver or even the price of a common metal like copper (I know it's not worth that much but people still see value in that metal.)

I wonder if it's possible for a P2P decentralised currency to be backed by something physical or is the whole concept about being fully de-centralised (or not being backed by anything)?

As for my opinion of BTC value dipping to less than $7,I think these are the reasons (in my opinion):
1.We placed a lot of expectations on the currency early on causing it to reach a point of $30 then dipping from that point forward but it has never bouced back to that again (yet) thereby possibly pushing the value up too quickly without giving it chance to stabilise a bit (totally stable currencies don't exist and most currencies have a variable value anyway),paving the way for a huge drop (which happens often now) which
2.Lots of things have happened to BTC like hacked exchange, scammers causing problems (Bruce case anyone?),trojans, mining botnets and wallet stealer trojans (security issues anyone?) as well as lack of positive media coverage on BTC.The only positive media coverage I heard is from BBC radio World service (radio station in UK) as far as I can tell.
3.Reputation has been heavily damaged by scandals affecting BTC.
4.Lack of acceptance of BTC by more mainstream businesses and sites

I really hope the value goes up to like $18+ in a few weeks time so I can cashout everything I have and have a nice retirement from mining.
1067  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 2x 5770 @ 219 MHash each OC'd - $75 incl. shipping in US48 on: September 05, 2011, 01:50:58 PM
Can you ship to UK? As i'd be interested if this is possible?

2 of those cards beats my 1 HD6950 plus the power use would be a lot lower than what I'm mining with atm.

What would the price be in GBP+shipping?
1068  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Custom FPGA Board for Sale! on: September 05, 2011, 01:48:20 PM
Where can I buy these boards? What range of boards can you offer?
1069  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB - mhash/s? on: September 05, 2011, 10:24:58 AM
Can I guys have your feedback on MSI Radeon HD6950 2048MB DDR5? Any idea what mhash/s does it have?

425m/h here. 945/320  Wink

I tried reaching those clocks but my system froze.I wonder if this has to do with my PSU not being able to deliver the amps properly? Because on mine,it says 36A can be drawn from the 12V line max and my card (I think) exceeds this when heavily OC'd,Overvolted and shader unlocked.Watts are not a problem here, just the amps.I found somewhere that my Radeon HD6950 needs 34A minimum, plus a 'green' HDD is on that rail also (I don't know if it's running when this happens) as my win7 is on SSD (uses 5V rail not 12V)

How important are amps for a PSU to run a GPU properly (as PSUs that don't deliver enough power tend to crash the system afaics)?

Sorry for being off-topic but I need the help in finding out what's responsible for the freezing.I only reply here to let the poster (not OP) know that I got the same results as him when using his settings but it then crashed my system.

1070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New Solidcoin Client Fully Open-Source! on: September 04, 2011, 07:56:13 PM
Those who spent their time mining, should be allowed to keep their coins.

It's not about pissing off coinhunter or anyone else. It's about keeping the thousands who have spent their electricity and time mining, with their coins.

yeah,I share that sentiment.I mined a fair number of coins in less than a week and I don't want my coins to disappear.I don't care what some whining, idiot developer thinks is good for the rest of us,if he screws us around,we'll just create a fork of his works and see how he likes it then.I want to start asap for mining the SC fork so I can profit like I did the 1st time.

What is the new fork called? And where can I mine it?(which pools?)

Thanks
1071  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New Solidcoin Client Fully Open-Source! on: September 04, 2011, 06:20:01 PM
How do I get this client?Does it affect my mining of SC? Would I need to do anything differently to the official 1.04?
1072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 1.04 Released [Hardened Edition] on: September 04, 2011, 05:33:22 PM
This is the part that concerns me,as the 2 exchanges and 2 pools I already used have shutdown because of this.

Devs (of SC),I liked your idea on SC but the new restrictions are driving some developers of exchanges out. Please reverse the problematic licencing terms or rephrase them (so as not to offend/confuse anyone) for clarification.

The damage is already done. I highly doubt said pools or exchanges are going to have a change of heart about RS/CH and reopen just because he backpedals on this particular issue.

I didn't realise fully but it was a good ride while it lasted.
1073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 1.04 Released [Hardened Edition] on: September 04, 2011, 05:20:17 PM
Thanks to these changes, lots of my exchanges and SC BTC guild have shut down. You need to ease up on the liscencing restrictions otherwise more people will refuse to use your currency and that always affects the user/consumer.Is there any basis to your requirement on that ":We are not necessarily going to restrict who can use the source code, however this change is mostly brought on by the developers and trolls of Bitcoin. If you don't like it, don't use the source code, simple really."

Why did you decide to tighten restrictions at a time when SC was gaining interest from more people?

Also did you really think people will take these changes lying down? I certainly didn't

I also wish to understand why you changed the terms and how do they really affect me?
Can't we show the devs that they made a big mistake?I think if enough people complain and show that we are prepared to move away from this SC project, then the devs will take notice.I vote with my feet(and wallet).

1074  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: http://hashrate.tk Triple Coin P2P-Currency Mining Pool. LP Patched, Low Stale on: September 04, 2011, 02:40:03 PM
Another issue I'm having on this pool is constant dropped connections for my miners.I can't use my regular pool because it's refusing conections (SC btc guild,if anyone of you can reach them, tell them for me to hurry up the fixes and start opening connections)
1075  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: http://hashrate.tk Triple Coin P2P-Currency Mining Pool. LP Patched, Low Stale on: September 04, 2011, 10:39:52 AM
I need support as I'm new to this pool and am having issues. The issue is,even though I see transactions in this image:

I see no payment in the SLC section even though I was able to just add my wallet address now here:

1076  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Estimate of all cards' Hash/s :) also shows best hash/$ on: September 04, 2011, 09:19:32 AM
Now that's awesome cryptomint :-)
I wish my card was that easy to mod.Are 5870s easy to get cheaply and to mod (as in clock settings) like you've done? a 5870 beating my HD6950?interesting. I guess I was wrong on the 5870's abilities. It is true that you learn something new everyday.
5870's are not easy to get cheaply. $200 is considered by some a low ball request even though that price is more then reasonable. Expect people to want up to $240.

Mike, you are not joking about the prices you can expect to find them at.I found an in stock card at this site:http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-msi-hd-5870-lightning-pci-e-21-%28x16%29-4800mhz-gddr5-gpu-900mhz-1600-cores-2x-dvi-dp-hdmi?utm_source=google+shopping&utm_medium=google+shopping

As you may notice that's very pricy as I'm in UK (in UK most places are out of stock right now).I can't ship from the US as I have to pay 'import tax' in addition to shipping to reach me in UK whenever I buy things from anysite based in US.I find that annoying.Wel I suppose I can try eBay and see if that has anything.I'm having trouble finding a HD6990 as that's also sold out in UK.The cheapest refurbed one is like £539 (used),looks like they can certainly hold onto their value.I suspect the seller was mining bitcoins before deciding to sell it Grin
1077  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Estimate of all cards' Hash/s :) also shows best hash/$ on: September 03, 2011, 10:36:26 PM
My Radeon HD6950 gives me ~405MHash/s which is better than the 5870 (afaics)
It is:
1.Overvolted to 1105mV
2.core clock is 905Mhz
3.mem clock is 947mhz (due to system stability issues)
4.Shader unlocked.

Hows that for a radeon Hd6950? Good modding skills or what?

My 5870s get 465 Mh/s running stock voltage, no modifications to the firmware.
Running @ 1030/300.
~60C temp

I could push them a little more if I wanted to.

How's that for a 5870? :-)

Now that's awesome cryptomint :-)

1078  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Estimate of all cards' Hash/s :) also shows best hash/$ on: September 03, 2011, 09:59:43 PM
Anyone have the 6950 and 6970 MHash data?
You can infer it from the MD5 data:
...take the MD5 number and multiply it by 62.63 seems to work well for the 5XXX and 6XXX series, but for the rest, it just gives you an idea in proportion. I'm guessing each series of cards have a number like the 62.63.
It looks like the 6950 should be slightly under the 5870, i.e. you won't get 313 Mhash/s, but you won't be too far off. The 6970 should be slightly better than the 5870.

My Radeon HD6950 gives me ~405MHash/s which is better than the 5870 (afaics)
It is:
1.Overvolted to 1105mV

1079  Economy / Speculation / Re: Holy CRAP the manipulator has pulled out!!!!! Freefall seems inevitable on: August 31, 2011, 07:11:56 PM
I am just hoping it jumps up in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

I agree with you on this.I wish to recoup £74 worth of BTC I invested in thinking I'd make a nice profit, instead the value dropped loads and £74 becomes much less than that (since the crash from ~$11 per btc to what it is now.) I also have a small supply of other bit coins so selling 2 would easily recoup my losses when it bounces right back (and $$$).

In the next 2 weeks guys,do you think the BTC value would recover? I certainly hope so soon.
1080  Economy / Speculation / Re: Holy CRAP the manipulator has pulled out!!!!! Freefall seems inevitable on: August 31, 2011, 05:22:47 PM
The OP mentioned somethign I found rather interesting. How did he know of a 'manipulator' that affected BTC value? How did they make contact? Is the OP a friend of the 'manipulator'? I think that (even though I feel odd about this idea) we should maybe try to find the next big thing that can affect BTC value for the better as well as maybe bringing him/her back if possible.I want to get the best price for my BTC and just move onto other business ventures.

Will prices bounce backup for BTC or is it in freefall for good now? Has anyone got the charts for the value?
