1081  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoins can now only buy 100 solidcoins, how far will BTC fall against SC on: August 31, 2011, 03:56:41 PM
What is this... The Special Olympics of alternative currencies???

I'd say f*** yeah to that,lol :-)

A race of how fast I can profit  Cool
1082  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoins can now only buy 100 solidcoins, how far will BTC fall against SC on: August 31, 2011, 03:20:28 PM
I'm profiting nicely with SC to BTC atm (even though it's not as much as everyone else with mega power GPUs and multiple computers running at the same time.I only have 2 comps (1 PC with HD6950 giving ~405MHash/s and MBP giving me ~10MHash/s) running and I have made quite a bit in about a week and hte difficulty drop earlier today made me even richer.I think Sc will be the viable mid term solution as it'll be like the BTC that should have been (with design and difficulty handling)

made over 1BTC (via mining Sc and converting to BTC despite transaction fees) in 1wk compared to 0.67BTC (being mined directly)
1083  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Shrinking - The Long View on: August 31, 2011, 02:39:06 PM
Overall, I agree with the OP's sentiment.  I've been quite frustrated with how slowly things have been progressing.  In the last 6 weeks, I have worked with two separate sites to begin accepting Bitcoin as an alternative payment method.  These aren't little mom and pop operations either.  One of the sites is hard coding the exchange rate at $20.  The other is using market price + 0.5, so there is already a huge discount being factor in.  Yet sadly, fewer Bitcoin orders have come in over the last 6 weeks combined than either of these sites typically receives by credit card over the course of a single hour.  The vendors I've talked to absolutely love the idea of getting out from under Visa/MCs thumb, but there's just not enough incentive to accept this form of payment if no one's using it.

However, I also think there are a few relatively minor developments that could turn the trend very rapidly upward.  There is still presently no effective way to introduce the average consumer to Bitcoins.  We're facing a major chicken and egg problem, and this side of it is just as important as getting the merchants to accept it (if not more so).  The only solution I see for this is for someone to build a very professional online wallet service that also sells at least small units of bitcoin (even at 2x market price).

One of the sites I've referred to above is an online game that sells monthly subscriptions.  They have expressed an interest in selling the service on a per game basis (for something like $0.05), using Bitcoin for micro-payments.  They won't move on this until they can also link to a wallet service where their customers can sign up for a Bitcoin account and immediately fund it, even with just $5-10 worth of coin.  Once these initial road blocks to growth are overcome, things could expand very quickly.

I wonder how values can be hard coded for the exchange rate? Are there any exchanges that have done this (as I don't fully know how sites and exchanges can do this)? So I can protect myself from the crashes (by holding on to my btc) and profit in the good times as well (if they return by quickly selling if my exchange allows it)
1084  Economy / Speculation / Re: could alternate blockchains be driving the btc price down? on: August 31, 2011, 02:10:29 PM
In my opinion,I am beginning to see the effects of how having a large no of competing blockchains can affect Bitcoin value. All I've seen is a steady constant drop, with bursts of rising to over $9 then back into freefall again.

I remember trying to get involved in speculation a while ago but it's too late for me in the speculating game now. I once cashed in £74 into 11.11BTC hoping to profit more, than 2 weeks of mining would have gotten me.Needless to say,the plan backfired as the moment I tried to sell,my payments were held in 'limbo' on the exchange I'm using because the value dropped so significantly shortly afterwards (Once the order is placed, the exchange auto sells when the value reaches parity to the market value I sold at on the Day.If this isn't the case,it stays in limbo til it does, however nothing gets lost so it looks certain to get my money back despite being in limbo)

After the speculating finished,I then discovered that I can make more bitcoins by mining Solid coins (a week ago) and then exchange them for BTC,but since then,2 things have happened:
1.Its 50/50 with the SC as the value has since dropped quite a bit but easier to mine now thanks to difficulty drop (from 22,500 to 12,500)
2.BTC and SC both continue to drop in value (however SC bounces back often with small increases at least once a day form my experience so far.)
however, despite these little niggles so far,I have managed to make 2x more than mining BTC directly ever gave me (and probably even more thanks to the difficulty drop with SC recently)
for mining 17hrs a day (24/7 is unfeasible fpr me at the moment)

So now,I'm not sure what to make of the idea of P2P currencies. The value should be expected to fluctuate (because thats life and how economies tend to work afaics) but the factors that affect the value happen too easily and too quickly (hacked exchange, mybitcoin issues,e.t.c).I did wonder if people who wanted to profit made hopeful speculations to boost the currency's  (well I'm trying to figure out how the bankers got away with it so easily) value. I do wonder how a viable alternative e-currency would survive (by probably going against the whole decentralised ideal and introducing some centralised form of trust, for transaction handling but that probably wouldn't survive beyond a few years, as we've seen with other e-currencies due to breach of trust issues if an exchange gets hacked or money gets stolen by hackers)
1085  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your Mhash/s? (Pissing contest here) on: August 29, 2011, 09:14:06 AM
Im getting 405MHash/s on my Radeon HD6950 (Shader unlocked,Overvolted and heavily OC'd)

MBP only gets me 14MHash/s on Nvidia GT330M at best (Typical is 7-11MHash/s)

As for people using CPUs don't bother, unless you have loads of computers at your disposal and can tolerate a higher utility bill (for the MHash/s you get from them),with less efficient hardware compared to a GPU or (if you can afford it) multiple FPGAs.

1086  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitparking SolidCoin Exchange on: August 29, 2011, 09:06:05 AM
I know this is off-topic but I have a separate issue that needs addressing.Where can I find support for BitParking SolidCoin Exchange? As I need to recover lost currency(yes I understand the 25% fee for retrival).

Thank you
1087  Economy / Goods / Re: [confirmed] SCAMMER: user Leon on: August 28, 2011, 04:57:20 PM
i'm still out over $800 and still have not gotten a penny back yet. i also updated the first post to consolidate the evidence as well as all his personal info i found

I'm a little curious after reading this thread. How did you manage to find all this info about this scammer?hacking?public sources?good sleuthing? Because I also wish to protect myself from all future scammers which is why I still refuse to do any buying of items/services in BTC thanks to the reputation of poor security and ease of scammers running with the money as BTC are not reversible like credit cards and Moneybookers (The only online payment I prefer to use because of security).

For me only accepting BTC (and all non reversible payments like cash) and refusing a payment method they know is reversible (like Moneybookers) is the 1st red flag for me.Does this sound right?or am I too suspicious of every1 that refuses to accept 'proper' payment methods (PayPal,MoneyBookers, credit cards, e.t.c)?

Another red flag for me is the merchant refusing to negotiate a better price (as I've seen scammers constantly pressuring people to pay the stated price, even if it's a blatant rip-off,at least where I am anyways) and refusal to negotiate a more favourable payment for the consumer (anything that's reversible) is a scammer ,as we've all seen in this thread, scammers will go out of the way to hide their tracks,no matter what and it only takes a slip up (on part of the scammer) and we have expose threads like this (which we need more of,quite frankly) making people aware of the scammers.

If anyone is from UK,have you ever heard of a TV show called Fake Britiain? It's a show where they expose rip offs, scammers and these guys are usually caught on camera.

1088  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining SolidCoins is now 4 times more profitable than Bitcoins !!! on: August 28, 2011, 02:24:05 PM
How profitable will 413MHash/s be with this compared to btc? This is with my 2 computers GPUs working together for 17 hours a day (due to high elec costs where I am)
PC gives 405MHash/s (HD6950 Oc'd and Overvolted)
MBP gives 8MHash/s (GT330M on MBP)

How much can I expect to make a day now?

Say does anyone know of a cheap/powerful card to add to my setup or a really cheap HD6990?

To those of you with like GHash/s setups, what kind of cards are you using? and how many?

What are the best clock and voltage settings to get the abolute max out of a HD6950 without ruining it?

1089  Other / Off-topic / Re: My experience with solidcoin.... on: August 27, 2011, 05:53:42 PM
Dan,you know when we talked about setting up solo earlier.I used the following settings (basically what the official FAQ told me to use in the config file then use in GUIMiner):
host:127.0.0.1
username:user
p/w:userpass
port:7556
server-1 (that was in the solidcoin.conf file)

Is that the proper way to set it up?Because I want to get more money by mining solo as the pool gives me little income in comparison. How much do you get per block?50?32?

I hope to get income soon.Do you know of any better card than a HD6950 that can make this much faster? Can CPU still be helpful alongside the GPU or is CPU mining alongside GPU already worthless?

How can I get my mac and work computers to connect to my PC so that all machines can work on the same block like in the bitcoin solo mining setup?

Thanks
1090  Other / Off-topic / Re: [GAMING] Can a HD 5770 and HD 5870 be CrossFired? on: August 27, 2011, 04:57:19 PM
at 620w i see no reason it wouldnt although i'm unsure of the power consumption of the 4670, hell i'm using an enermax 420 for a pair of 5770. as far as for 3 high end cards it depends on the card 3x5870 need 180w per card on the 12v rail 3x6970 are higher than that being dual gpu cards

The HD6950 2GB card is 220W because:
a.unlocked it's shaders (adds 20W more power use)
b.Overclocked the card to 906MHz clock
c.Overvolted from 1100mV to 1105mV as that's the minimum necessary to keep my system stable (adds another 10W from 895MHz stock voltage)

The old Radeon Hd4670 card I used to mine wth used at most 70W due to heavy overclocking.

When people talk about running multiple GPUs in a PC,what matters more? The PSU watts it can provide?or the number of amps on the +12V line of the PSU? (As my PSU is at capaciy in the Amps section.36A max and adding my old card back would add another 26Amps and overload it,unless wattage is the bigger issue than amps.HD6950 stock requires a minimum of 34A.I found this this from somewhere but can't find the bookmarked page with that info at the moment)
1091  Other / Off-topic / Re: [GAMING] Can a HD 5770 and HD 5870 be CrossFired? on: August 27, 2011, 03:33:34 PM
You were also wrong about triple sli not exisiting. a good resource for multi card setups is anandtech/tomshardware th did this review earlier this year
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crossfire-sli-3-way-scaling,2865.html
exploring 1 2 and 3 card configurations for both sli and crossfire

Ok des, thanks for the correction.I was simply unaware of there being tri SLI setups are I was used to only seeing SLI or quad SLI.I will check those links out.I've never setup a multiGPU system before so I have no personal experience with that and also my current PSU can't cope (because the 12V line is at capacity 34A out of 36A and the remaining 2A is used by the drives) even though it's only 220W used from the 12V line and 60Ws other for my mobo and CPU,the SSD uses 0.15W when active (DVD writer use doesn't count as thats never used and consumes 20W when writing DVDs)

PSU is Enermax Liberty 620W that was bought in 2007 (April/may time I think).Do you think that PSU can handle my HD6950 card and my old HD4670 card at full load?IF not, which PSU is reliable, strong and can cope with 3 high power GPUs?
1092  Other / Off-topic / Re: My experience with solidcoin.... on: August 27, 2011, 12:02:16 PM

Dan,I can understand that this is strange sounding to you that after 207 posts,i can't solo mine. The reason being is constant problems with the router I have no control over with the port forwarding, that prevents the ports needed for solo mining to work for my machine. Also I get confused when I see new alternate currencies thinking that they all work differently.2 things that will continue to slow me down are:
1.router issues (port forwarding is not easy and ports not easy to change)
2.Confusion over how multiple different currencies work and mine.

But anyways, thanks for the help Dan :-)

Is there a mining calculator for SC or is it the same basic idea as bitcoin calculator?

Sorry, too much coffee for me today Smiley

I don't believe you have to mess with port forwarding unless you're behind some restrictive firewall rules, even more if you're solo mining on your local network, router ports shouldn't be an issue.

Another thing I would suggest that you mine solids from a solidcoin mining pool, as with difficulty retargeting and being only 400ish mhash, you're bound to wait for that block a while, but hey, it's your decision.

You can use bitcoin calculator at alloscomp, just enter the solidcoin diff, your mhash, and price in bitcoin, and you will see yield estimates in bitcoin.

You can sell your mined solidcoins at bitparking exchange or Moonoco.in exchange or find some more if those two don't suit your taste.

I am mining from a solidcoin mining pool as it may be more beneficial.I think I'll take your advice on that one.Thing is our router seems to treat solo mining as traffic even though it's on my own computer so that doesn't really help things so I mine in the pool as it just works. My PC is mining with GPU and my MBP mines with its GPU and CPU (as I get much more from each part of my MBP than I ever would have done with BTC)

As I'm up and running,I'm loving it so far, fast production even on my 2 computers :-).How does difficulty change and how often on SC?or is it the same as BTC mining?Has anyone been able to profit from SC mining so far?

Thanks for the help Dan :-)

That's really gr8.How can I solo mine solidcoin on my PC?

This is a joke, right? After 207 posts you still can't solo mine?

Anyways,

1. Download SC client (binary for your system if you don't know how to compile the source)
2. Go to your user data folder for solidcoin and create or copy/paste a file solidcoin.conf where you input your rpc user, pass, port etc.
3. Run the SC client with -server option (from CLI eg. windows, run solidcoin.exe -server)
4. Point your miner to the ip and port of your SC server, and mine away.

Did I miss something?

1097  Other / Off-topic / Re: 4 times more profitable to mine SolidCoins instead of BitCoins now !!! on: August 27, 2011, 08:36:55 AM
Looks like I'll need to setup yet another currency to mine (as BTC is losing it's value then rising again). How to setup solid coin mining with GUIMiner on PC? (I tried on my MBP and it just won't work and also a HD6950 will do far better than my MBP ever could with it's Geforce GT330M gpu and core i7 CPU combined.).Thing is where do I exchange these solidcoins for bitcoins? Also how many can I get in a day with 405MHash/s on my radeon card? How much value do solid coins have compared to bitcoin?

EDIT:I've now sorted myself uot for SC mining and it's just awesome on my 2 computers. On my MBP the GPU and CPU both yield loads of coins and my PC's GPU running at 405MHash/s gives me loads of them at the moment. As my questions were answered on another thread, they can be ignored in this thread now.So in short,it's awesome :-)
1098  Other / Off-topic / Re: [GAMING] Can a HD 5770 and HD 5870 be CrossFired? on: August 27, 2011, 08:32:19 AM
Nope. You can only crossfire cards of the exact same model, variant (like different ram or something) and manufacturer.

An example of Crossfire that can work is:
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB model paired with another card that's exactly the same

When you can't crossfire is in situations like this:
1 Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB RAM  paired up with a Asus Radeon HD 6990 4GB RAM because the cards are very different from each other in terms of how much ram they have (variants of each card),what manufacturer they are from and what card model it is

Here is where things may get a little confusing:
1.You have a Sapphire HD 6950 2GB RAm card and you also have a Sapphire HD 6950 1GB RAM yet they won't crossfire, but why?even though its from the same manufacturer and hte same model, the only different is the variation of RAM.Some people I know got caught out by this.

You can also crossfire in the following configurations:
crossfire (2 way)
3 way crossfire (Nvidia cards afaik don't seem to have a triple SLI,its just SLI or Quad SLI)
and finally Quad crossfire

I hope this post answers your questions on crossfire :-)

Pretty much absolutely nothing in this post is correct.

You can most certainly crossfire cards of a different type and brand.

Here is a link to AMD's crossfire guide:

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/technology/Pages/crossfirex.aspx

Here is a link to the crossfire compatibility chart:

http://sites.amd.com/PublishingImages/Public/Graphic_Illustrations/WebBannerJPEG/AMD_CrossfireX_Chart_1618W.jpg

I checked that guide myself as I wish to get another card at some point but not now (as PSU can't handle another card yet until suitable replacement is found). That chart only seemed to prove my point earlier about not being able to crossfire a HD 6950 (my current gpu) with say a HD6990 (the card I wish to add as an extra to my system). Yes I was wrong on my very 1st point (about same model and manufacturer) but It's a good thing that times have changed and compatitibilty is better now.My old card was a HD 4670 (which as we all know is utter crap for mining but good for most things I need to do,never had driver problems with it) and I based some of that info from other sites that were talking about the HD4xxx series cards. It's good that things are better now.I didn't know that from the HD5xxx series cards that compatibilty had improved until reading your post.

I guess it is true, you learn something new everyday.

I don't know if Im right on the modes of crossfire (2,tri-way,quad crossfire) but I do know that 2xHD6990 counts as Quad crossfire. (as each card has 2 gpus on it)
After seeing that guide,It's safe to say that I was right as the HD 5770 and HD 5830 can't be crossfired together at all (with or without the bridge connector) which should anwser the OPs question.
1099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do we bring the value of BitCoins back up? on: August 26, 2011, 10:41:37 AM
I was actually hoping that people would show an interest in boosting the value of BTC and now i've found my kind of thread :-)

Anyways I'm thinking that maybe if all of our respective websites that we own (I do own 2 forums in addition to my blog, plus mining, filmmaking and investing businesses online. At least I own multiple ways to make use of bitcoins as well as traditional money,$,£ e.t.c) made use of bitcoins, then perhaps the reputation would get better (of the currency) and more widespread use of bitcoins would make the value rise massively (I hope).

I want the value to rise as well as I mine. Will there be another bubble where we have high value bitcoins or are those days behind us now?

thing is, what factors can change bitcoin's value?

Perhaps a film could help?
1100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I wish to create a currency on: August 26, 2011, 08:50:24 AM
7.Difficulty should start off at zero and stay there for a month before changing so that every1 can win.(A more skilled person can help with the design of this.I'm just a visionary)
FUCK, YOU ARE GENIUS!!!11

I thought you might like that.I mainly plan this as I feel that a viable currency needs an element of stability so by basing the difficulty in the manner described above.Easier for miners, easier for me (as visionary) because not many people can know of a currency overnight and by the time they catch on,it's too late for them already.I think that since people see mining as a a profit machine, why not be more profit friendly while at the same time, give the network other potential uses so that while we're busy mining this new currency, anyone with know how can tap into all that power to help them with whatever they need (research or simply profit from multiple networks at the same time as mining on this one) Even though I may not be good with programming I can at least create an idea that can be useful to people (and not just in films)

Like you,I do wish to profit but not at anyone's expense like that Ixcoin guy.(by premining coins for him self, making a cheap knockoff of bitcoin then passing off as a currency that serves to only benefit him)
