1263  Economy / Speculation / Re: $48.30 is a viable target for the next mini-crash. on: March 21, 2013, 12:45:25 PM
i dont really think thats a bubble right now.
but my guess for the biggest dip is 59.78

How do you not see the bubble. Look at any history over 2 months, and it is obvious that we are in a bubble. I don't mean that in any negative way. Any speculative market is susceptible to bubbles, and I think they are natural. Everyone knows we are in a bubble, but that just means the last person out gets burned, and everyone is comfortable playing hot potato until then.

i dont call it a bubble because i think that the current price raise if because of changed fundamentals.
 - many more people scared about fiat than last year
 - bitcoin has proven itself more
 - more companies (especially more "normal" ones)

i think bitcoin is just leaving the "nerd-area" and more people are recognizing it as a valid investment.

1265  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox private key sweep function on: March 21, 2013, 11:46:39 AM
I notice that MtGox have a private key import function on their website.

My question is, if I import a private key and a few weeks later I receive a payment to the key's address, will MtGox deposit that transaction into my account as well?

Is there any limit on private keys I can import into my MtGox account?

yes they'll do that.
i have imported about 20keys; i dont know anything about a limit
1266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it smart to use mtgox as your bitcoin wallet on: March 20, 2013, 12:52:42 PM
It is never smart to let a third party hold your bitcoins for you.

This.

+1

but if you want to trade you have to give away your direct access
1267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it smart to use mtgox as your bitcoin wallet on: March 20, 2013, 12:36:53 PM
This is about the worst idea possible. The MtGox wallet is a shared wallet, so if you ever intended to receive BTC in a transaction the money would land "somewhere" on MtGox, but not your account.

thats not really true

you have a fixed deposit address. but a very strong problem is, that if you withdraw money (eg playing sdice) the coins do come from a different address (which is NOT your deposit address).

^^ so its impossible for the receiver to just "return" coins (which sdice tries)

I just opened an mtgox account. Woul it make since to use this as a primary bank for your bitcoins? It seems a little more safe than having them on some bitcoin wallet platform. I am somewhat of a newbie. So this may be a simple question with a simple answer. Thanks Smiley

i use blockchain.info as my spending wallet.
i use mtgox as a wallet for trading (and for receiving very small btc amounts to safe me from some fees)
i use a paper wallet for savings

it depends on how much money you trust mtgox. and they do have some withdraw limits which means you may not be able to transfer all your bitcoins if you need to.

1271  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitfetch - Anonymous Remote Torrent Downloading on: March 18, 2013, 04:56:02 PM
ok, you're right regarding dropbox integration.

what about an api instead?

if often use your site from work to add new torrents, and i would love if my homeserver would download them after bitfetch has finished them (so i can use them as soon as i get home).

You can already do that. Click on Settings (top right) and enable Automatic Browser Downloads.

It will work on Chrome (up to 2 files, any more than that and it will popup 'This website is attempting to download multiple files. Allow? Yes/No' to which you click Yes) while Firefox/IE/Safari will require changing of the default download action in the browser settings.

my home server does not have an ui Wink
but anyway: love your service
1272  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitfetch - Anonymous Remote Torrent Downloading on: March 18, 2013, 04:24:25 PM
hello,

i just love your service Wink
just two suggestions:
 - dropbox integration (just place torrents in one dir and let it download with bitfetch)
 - dropbox: place completed files in dropbox

regards
flower

Thanks!

I think that Dropbox integration goes against the privacy oriented nature of this service. Dropbox API access is not open to everyone - you have to apply for it and get approved. I also don't see the point of watching a dropbox directory for .torrent files, since you can upload them to bitfetch just by clicking a button and they are typically <50kb anyway. Magnet links beat all other methods for convenience though, all it takes is a copy/paste.

I will definitely be adding multiple file upload support (ctrl + clicking multiple files) for browsers that support it.

1274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I taught several persons install qt & gave them 1 BTC for free on: March 18, 2013, 12:39:47 PM
Till today I have taught five persons to install the Bitcoin-qt and give away 1 BTC to them each for free.

I did that once. The dude deposited it into Bitcoinica to play around a bit, and it's still there. Well, whatever is left of it after the hackers took a part of it and the liquidator taking another lol

exactly the same here...
he left bitcoin afterwards ;(
1275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL FINISHED] The block size limit controversy: a proper poll (30 days) on: March 11, 2013, 02:25:55 PM
but maybe you can help me to understand you better.

i believe bitcoin will succeed because everybody can do whatever he wants and just need to follow a few (very basic) rules.

as far as i understand you, you want to add more rules to that: e.g. "nobody is allowed to decide which transactions he dont like" and so on.
1276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The block size limit controversy: a proper poll (30 days) on: March 11, 2013, 01:33:10 PM
Can "No limit" be added?  Thanks.

No it cannot.

Without the limit, Bitcoin network can't function.

There has been no proof of this.

1. After the last Bitcoin will be minted, there will be no incentive for miners to mine, except for transaction fees. When block can be of any size, then any number of transactions can make it into every block, therefore theoretically no transaction fees need to be paid.

2. How do you protect the network from dust spam & DDoS without block size limit ?

unlimited block size does not mean that every miner is forced to take any transaction in his blocks.

he is still free to make a policy like "i only put transactions with 0.1btc fee in my blocks".

unlimited just means he has an upper limit which he cannot raise.

No it cannot.

Without the limit, Bitcoin network can't function.

why?

afaik it would just lead to more centralisation (which is not very good, but it does still work)
1278  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is one of the devs (Luke-Jr) an enemy of Bitcoin ? on: March 10, 2013, 03:15:24 PM
hint: people who have other opinions than you are not automatic your enemy.

Wrong. Not MY enemy. *Bitcoin's enemy*.

bitcoin is just a currency.
its only enemies are people with big pockets full of fiat.

its a p2p currency which means: everybody can do as he wants to (this includes sdice AND luke-jr not letting their transactions in his blocks).

so please.. just calm down a little.

See, these are the little mistakes that screw things up.

This should be 'power' instead of 'fiat'.
And so once bitcoin becomes big enough we will have exactly the same problems that all currencies have. And people will be screaming for regulations etc.

All this naive libertanian fluff is just an indicator that bitcoin is not making a serious dent.

Bitcoin certainly has some pro's but it also has flaws that will require new laws to make it work on any large scale.

one thing i really love about bitcoin is, that laws just wont work.
as long as the protocol stays the same (or only has minor modifications) i am able to start a mining operation and let my transactions get processed.

if that ever changes you're right. but then there wont be any difference between bitcoin and fiat anymore.

1280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Newly Discovered Flaw, Could KILL Bitcoin! on: March 10, 2013, 02:57:26 PM
After this discussion I don't trust you. I do not like where you would take this currency if you had the chance. I think you are an enemy.
If some day, by some "unfortunate accident" you become main developer, i will vote for creating a fork without you.
You could probably save yourself some stress by just clicking "Ignore".

Then i wouldn't be able to straighten out his foolishness.

atm i only see your foolishness.
i never saw luke-jr saying  "hey let's make stupid laws instead which force you into not attacking Bitcoin". he just made a patch that his(!) bitcoind wont put sdice transactions in his blocks. i dont see any problem with that.

its just the nature of p2p: everybody may just act as he want to... no laws needed. just vote with your mhash Wink
