Lets take Bitcoin...now imagine that it isn't Bitcoin!

I think it's kinda interesting but it seems better for people who want a console experience, I'm more of a PC guy.

StormCloudsGathering on a disturbing, yet familiar, trend.  Apologies if this is posted elsewhere.

What are your thoughts on racism?  Is it ever rational?

Wow, what an incredible voice!  Amazing to see such talent involved with Bitcoin Grin
1285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regulation of Bitcoin and how Bitcoin can become corrupted on: October 17, 2013, 06:24:41 AM
The essay started well then turned into an immature teenage rant re 'no one tells me what to do I'm not a kid anymore' whining.
........

Working to improve society, rather than living outside society, is rewarding.

You mean: WORK - OBEY - WATCH TV - PAY TAXES

I would say, if society treats you like a kid (speed limits, gun control et cetera), the desire to work for its improvement, is a bit limited.

Right; there's nothing wrong with wanting to improve society.  There's something incredibly wrong with being forced to.  If society was worth working to improve, people would do so naturally; nobody wants to improve America anymore, if anything they'd like to return to a previous time, and yet they have no choice in the matter to begin with; that whole compulsory being-alive fee, I forget the name of it.

Of course, people will always be governed; there is no person, except for the children running the state and its war games, who is truly free, for even in the best situation, we are governed by our conscious, by the natural reaction of our own actions (e.g. touch hot thing, get burned, new self-law: do not touch hot things; e.g. hurt a person, become injured by person or their protector, new self-law: do not injure others.)  The problem arises when one is governed by those who are not governed; when we allow those who claim to be the government to steal, and disallow ourselves the same right, naturally we will find ourselves in a parent-child predicament, a ruler-ruled predicament, a master-slave predicament, and the most natural reaction is to rebel, so that we may be equals yet again; sadly, this spirit is squashed by political fundamentalists who refuse to see that there is a problem and thus, cannot seek nor contribute to a solution, all to reaffirm their own views, no matter how skewed, so as to avoid the discomfort of having been possibly wrong.

Imagine the slave who warns his fellow slaves that attempting to escape would be against the law and breaking said law is immoral, ergo slavery is justified because it is legal, thus one should stop acting like an angsty teenager and simply accept their role in working the cotton fields for free: we can imagine thus that Harriet Tubman was quite the immature drama queen, ruining everything for the hard-working colored folk who just wanted to live a nice, decent life.  At least the slave who warned his fellow slaves knew he was doing the right thing.

But how incredibly easy it is to see this as preposterous only after the fact.  Meanwhile, sometime in the future, a child learns that people in 2013 are still worshiping man-gods and still yet under the belief they are incapable of self-organization, a role to be left only to the gods, and laughs, and looks about to see if his classmates are as confounded as he is.
1286  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is myrkul alive? on: October 17, 2013, 05:23:55 AM
Yes, but burnt out.

Found I was taking things too seriously, So I gave it a break to focus on my kids.

Glad to see you're still doing well, myrkul; and I don't blame you for needing time away, it is incredibly frustrating deconstructing ethics born in propaganda.
1287  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Study: Everyone hates environmentalists and feminists on: October 16, 2013, 03:52:38 AM
The key is that radical environmentalists/feminists are annoying. I'm pro recycling/sustainable practices/anti littering, and pro equal rights/equal pay etc, but those people who tell me that I'm a bad person for not driving a hybrid, or that think that women deserve to be better than men due to past descrimination, are the stereotype that people have come to hate. Not to turn this into a religious debate, but for example theres nothing exciting about a Muslim family doing their religious things in their own homes and places of worship, however the things that radicals do are what people hear about, and thats what sticks as common perception.

I agree; I'm perfectly happy to have environmentalists and feminists and muslims and anyone else around me, I just hate anyone who feels the need to run my life--I'm already perfectly capable of this and would prefer to remain in control of it.
1288  Economy / Speculation / Re: Be Honest- who hopes the USA defaults so BTC skyrockets? on: October 16, 2013, 02:44:54 AM
Seems like nonsense to me. Doesnt matter if its China, Japan, or USA. If a huge economic powerhouse goes down, so does the rest. Theyre all relying on the same BS.

Feel free to elaborate; I'm all ears.
1289  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wow, only 30,000 bitcoins left on MtGox (in the USD orderbook) on: October 16, 2013, 02:35:31 AM
People still use Gox?

No, none at all  Roll Eyes

That's good, because that would be a silly mistake to make.

1291  Economy / Speculation / Re: Be Honest- who hopes the USA defaults so BTC skyrockets? on: October 16, 2013, 02:25:54 AM
Um.
Allow me to point out the obvious.

If the US actually does default, the economy (which is right now precariously balanced on liquidity injections and ridiculous levels of federal spending) will likely collapse. That means gas shortages, food shortages, riots, etc.

Sure, the dollar will tank. But it doesn't matter how much BTC skyrockets or how much it is "worth" against another currency if there aren't any goods around to buy with it. You could price BTC with rice or gas but if there is no rice or gas such a measure is meaningless.

If there is no gas in the gas station what does it matter how much BTC is "worth"? If there is no food in the store what does it matter how much an ozt of gold is "worth" via some other measure, if there is no food to buy with it? It's merely an intellectual curiosity if there are no goods.

Who is going to accept currency for a good when they can't turn around and buy other goods with that currency?

The use for currencies - fiat or otherwise - in a post-default economic shutdown scenario is wayyy overstated by many of these alt media bitcoin/gold pundits.

There will certainly be a period of time where we recover, but this is not to say the world is "over" once America finally buckles.  Believe it or not, there will still be a future after the tribulation; just as all other empires have kicked the bucket, we always figure out how to get along without them.  As much as America would like you to believe that they're the center of the economic universe and their existence is necessary for the world to survive (reminds me of something God might say), it's not nearly as bad as it's being made out to be.

My advice: don't be in America or one of its dependencies once SHTF and the effects will be minimal, assuming America doesn't attempt to nuke the planet to death to stay on top.
1292  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opinion on the US on: October 16, 2013, 02:15:05 AM
Everybody put his own ideas saying "I love America".
I say, I love the spirit of people who build that country.

Then surely you would be an even bigger fan of Africa.

1294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese government IS backing Bitcoin?!?! on: October 15, 2013, 11:59:25 AM
If you believe China's going to adopt Bitcoin, you've yet to understand exactly what the point of politics is.

China is making its own currency.  China will be in full control of issuing this currency.  China doesn't care for a currency it cannot exploit.

Quote
Key among its proposals: the creation of a new international reserve currency to replace the present reliance on U.S. dollars, a necessary step to prevent American bumbling from further afflicting the world, the commentary suggests.

If it so happens that China uses the Bitcoin protocol, I will be the last man alive to use their altcoin.

Not a quote, but certainly words I live by.
1296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whats stopping the worlds richest from buying all the coins? on: October 14, 2013, 04:22:36 AM
This is an impossible task; you can only buy so many coins before the price starts jumping extremely high, not to mention the people who refuse to sell their coins no matter the price.

Aside from that, it's cautiousness.
1297  Economy / Economics / Re: Obama is considering making money by himself on: October 14, 2013, 04:13:56 AM
Leave Obama alone. He's doing the best he can. It's the Rethuglicans who are ruining the country. STOP ELECTING REPUBLICANS. I am a proud member of American Independent Party and I refuse to vote for Republican candidates.

They're both doing their equal share of turning this country into shit.  It doesn't matter who you vote for, all that matters is whether you believe a magical man will solve all your problems if you could just get the right one...or whether you do not.
1298  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dropbox REMOVED Votebox After Bitcoin Was Voted #1. Time To Switch? on: October 14, 2013, 03:33:43 AM
Okay, I've tried spider oak.  Unfortunately, it seems that it's extremely unreliable with its own network; uploading wasn't an issue, but then downloading seems to simply not work whatsoever, I can't get it to go anywhere beyond 240 bytes transferred, nor can I directly download my files from the site.

I dunno if there's just a massive influx of new members or what, but anyway, I'll try out another one.
1299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin have a Gender Gap Problem? on: October 13, 2013, 08:04:47 AM
From a psychological perspective, specifically looking at jungian personality, there is an easy explanation.

If you look at the poll taken of bitcointalk members, you will see that bitcoiners are overwhelmingly "INTJ" and "INTP" personality types (meyers-briggs).  Among these types, males outnumber females about 3:1 over the general population.

on the development sub forum i agree with you. but in the main bitcoin forum area i believe they are more like this:
comedy trolls(ESFP) 10%
basement dwelling trolls(INFP) 10%
donators/investors(ENFP) 40%
coders(INTP) 20%
project developers(INTJ) 20%

you will never know exactly how many women are into bitcoin because the last time a few females i know of personally signed up, they were receiving personal messages from members once people realised they were female..

so most females use the anonymity of bitcoin to its max, by never telling anyone what gender they are and ignoring silly polls

PFFFT I don't even have a basement Tongue

Anyway, AFAIK most people here are INTX (as in <85% based on the last poll), and NTs in general are predominantly male.  No, not all the NTs here are working on projects related to Bitcoin, but they're definitely the vast majority.  I'm fairly certain the last poll was in the main Bitcoin forum, or at least somewhere most people would've found it, so I see no reason to mistrust it.

Most likely, whenever I have some spare cash; I'm right tired of my 3GS, Apple is refusing to support it and now a lot of the apps being updated for the new iOS crash and burn on start up.  Figure why not, might as well give Android a shot.
