Hi Annie here,

I've recently run into some really hard times and as a single mother (with an asshole ex) am looking to try to support my 3 year old child. I heard something on the news about these bitcoins, but i really don't understand much.

I hope i can learn something here.

Cheesy

Hi Annie,

i am in the same position as you (ok, except that i am a male).

if you earn more money than your husband you can use bitcoins to hide your income from your ex (btw i dont do this, i pay for my ex regardless of how much i hate her).

bitcoins is essentially a store of value, but a very risky one.

i use bitcoins to save a little money for my child. 50% is EUR saving and 50% is BTC saving.

in germany you pay taxes for saving - so this saves me a little (i have to pay taxes as soon as i convert them back to EUR; but anyway... as i plan to hold them for a few years it'd save me a lot)

it would be easy to hide the user-name for non-members

nice, but where are the bitcoin prices?
1345  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL refunds works flawlessly and fast on: November 01, 2012, 02:39:41 PM
Thanks for cancelling your order......LOL. One less to delay my order.

And less difficulty :p

I do wonder how much of the blatant FUD around here is just an attempt to keep the difficulty down by people either heavily invested in gpu or in the new asics...

Wink i think you are right
1346  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL refunds works flawlessly and fast on: October 30, 2012, 11:14:42 AM
what made you change ur mind?

i wanted a refund because i am afraid that bfl is not the first on the market and i think that i wont be able to mine back my price of the gear.

So, your going to quit mining?

i have quit a while ago and wanted to restart with bfl asic's
but i dont see any sense in it when i loose money over it.

i think its better to just buy coins. (this also saves me from discussions with my wife)

hi,

i just want to share my bfl refund experience.

i have send them an email and after three days i've got all my bitcoins back.
obviously they gave me a few less coins because of the changed usd/btc price.

i wanted a refund because i am afraid that bfl is not the first on the market and i think that i wont be able to mine back my price of the gear.
i do still think bfl is the best asic vendor - at least for now Wink

edit: bitpay has a perfect service. they even came back to me because they didn't find my refund transaction in the blockchain as we both used a mtgox address. +1 for doublechecking Wink
1349  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which is the best pool to join with your ASIC? on: October 22, 2012, 02:19:08 PM
P2pool. Which has always been based on variable difficulty and fast local work generation.

P2Pool also protects your investment in Bitcoin (and Bitcoin hardware) by not degrading Bitcoin's decenteralization by blindly depending on a centralized pool which must be trusted to not attack bitcoin and not steal from their users. If the roll out of ASICs gives one of the early updated centralized pools 75% of hashpower and the ability to reverse and replace their own transactions at will, what should that rightfully do to the valuation of Bitcoin?

what do you think about GBT pools? they should offer the same level of decentralisation as p2pool.
or am i missing something?
1350  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Got off the phone with the Guy from the S.E.C on: October 10, 2012, 11:31:41 AM
Maybe that is his "plan", close GLBSE, open a complient business.

who would trust nefario now if he would open a new business?
1351  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: October 06, 2012, 10:00:42 PM
I think ASIC's will mess with the basic principle of economics.
Demand and supply, supply will raise a lot because of these ASIC miners, so the demand has to raise in the same proportion or the break-even-price will drop.
Conclussion: The value of bitcoins will decrease.

the supply does not change with more mining-power.
in fact the supply lowers at december because of the protocol (but this has nothing to do with hashrate)
1352  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 06, 2012, 08:38:40 PM
Theymos, ya'all should integrate a stock exchange into the Bitcoin Talk forums. Then the scammer tag can hold more power.

i love that idea,

but, the drawbacks are:

more concentration of power (the forum is hosted by mtgox)
and
possible legal issues would affect bitcointalk forum aswell
1353  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 06, 2012, 08:49:12 AM
Nefario has defrauded me and others in several different ways and deserves a scammer tag.

- He has stated that he would ignore any motion to remove him as CEO.

One thing I constantly warn people about is self-censorship. If you think it is a good thing to remove Nefario as CEO, then put up a motion, and let him ignore it and take responsibility for this. By not putting up a motion because "he would ignore it", you are simply letting him go on as CEO.

Please do not censor yourself, and do what you think is right for GLBSE regardless of what you think Nefario might do then. That could protect you in the future.

(disclaimer: I don't have any coin or share on GLBSE)

Theymos, please read this post. I also urge you not to give any BTC to Nefario. Thanks.

afaik: as he already paid his lawyer with user funds that would mean that not all users get their btc.
do you really want that?

Keep moving forward. You are doing a fantastic job. Don't get sidetracked by a few  critics. Most people here support you and even if not , they can create their own foundation or club.

i do support the bitcoin foundation
i just (and only) have the fear that mtgox uses this power to convince all bitcoin businness to copy his definition of tainted coins.

Why are you afraid of it? Did you steal anyone's wallet?

no,

i am afraid that i get "tainted" coins from another party (eg satoshidice, another exchange...)

I am armed, so please keep ideas of physical violence in check.

Why is/are this/these weapon(s) not sold yet to pay back your creditors?

maybe if he sold them, all his other assets gets "stolen" by his first visitor Wink

...couldnt resist...

What other assets?

There's more to sell?

Why is it not sold yet?

afaik he considers his wife as an asset
but anyway: i think we dont have a choice and need to wait.

We could count how many others someone has on ignore. That might indicate whether they're able to stay calm about things. Smiley

not your fight.

none of your business.

i could understand if Diablo opened this thread but god damn.

everybody has the right to open a scam-accusation thread. and this is good Wink

i dont really like MPEX and his exchange - but this does not mean he is'nt right in this case.
1360  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: Nefario. on: October 01, 2012, 08:08:10 AM
scamming = To defraud; swindle.

scamming != A disagreement

atm goat is still waiting for his coins - if he dont get them i vote scammer.
otherwise i just vote "nefario should not run a marketplace"
